We all preach this mantle of "growing our own" yet many here freak at the prospect of not filling any percieved void with some FA "already was". At some point the team has to allow players to become something proven. It works... ie Pierce, it does not work... ie Terrell... but you gotta try. There are so many $$$ to spend and a team of proven vets will wear the wallet out fast! Its time to allow Tyler Jacobs and DMac to flourish or fail. Thrash is a quality. Randy Moss is probably the only one out there worth giving up the ranch for (talent wise) but he comes with a ridiculous amount of baggage. He's already been on record saying he likes to fix his needs in FA. So building within might be a long shot. We will have some players. jimster Posted February 22, 2005 Share Posted February 22, 2005 with the present way the NFL operates, FA and salary cap, it is impossible to grow your talent and keep them all.When you draft them and they get good enough to demand a high contract when that rookie contract is up, you either pay them a lot or let them go and someone else pays them a lot. Then you replace them with "cheap-labor" rookies or FA's. You're always going to have to let some players go. There won't be many Darrell Green's and Joe Theismann's anymore.
