Here are the scouting reports guys, straight from solitary. :D These are the kind of guys Greg Williams does wonders with. :D Kori Dickerson looks like he has some speed (4.75); went 66 yards for a TD at USC.

Maurice Jones

Position: Inside/Outside Linebacker

College: South Florida

Height: 6-0

Weight: 249

Hometown: Bradenton, Fla.

Analysis | Agility | High School | Personal

OVERVIEW

Versatile defender who played all three linebacker positions during his career, but found a home as a senior when he shifted to the middle … The three-year starter has outstanding quickness and agility, especially in pass-rushing techniques … The team captain was a standout defender at Booker High, following his head coach, Leroy Ryals (running backs coach) to the USF campus

Started 33 of 43 games, recording 285 tackles (173 solos) with 12½ sacks for minus-75 yards, 40 stops for losses of 124 yards, nine quarterback pressures, five fumble recoveries for 55 yards in returns, including a touchdown, three forced fumbles and 15 pass deflections … Only Kawika Mitchell (367, 1999-2002), Roy Manns (317, 1997-2000) and J.R. Reed (301, 2000-03) had more tackles during a career at USF … Only Gregory Walls (48, 1999-2002) had more tackles behind the line of scrimmage in school annals … His five fumble recoveries are one shy of the school career record of six by Anthony Henry (1997-2000).

ANALYSIS

Positives: Has a thick, muscular frame with a broad chest and shoulders, good upper-body tone, long arms and well-developed thighs, calves and bubble … Active player who shows good effort and quickness to make plays from sideline to sideline … Shows a good burst off the edge to close on the quarterback … His shift to the middle saw a great improvement in his ability to come downhill more against the inside run and seems to have rejuvenated him, as his instincts and awareness are sharper than when he played on the outside in 2002 …

Has the size and bulk to face up and stuff blocks … Uses his hands and long arms effectively to separate and shed … Has the upper-body strength to lock on and redirect tight ends working the short area … Has a sudden burst in pursuit and flashes explosion upon contact … Breaks down and fits well, using his upper-body strength to wrap and secure as a tackler … Has the quickness to match up with running backs and tight ends in man coverage, doing a nice job of shadowing the opponent working in space … Has fluid hips and can open and get deep quickly in his pass drops … Has the foot speed to break and close on the ball … Has a natural feel for the ball and ease of movement when redirecting down the line … His natural playing strength allows him to deliver pop on contact.

Negatives: Can be fooled by misdirection and play action … Move inside was beneficial, as it kept him more involved in the action (seemed to go through the motions when playing on the outside in 2002, taking stretches of time off, as his work habits also suffered that year. Seems to have a renewed interest in the game and takes pride in his work habits now) … Would like to see more aggression in his play (has a good burst, but will let plays come to him rather than initiate, at times) … Struggles to locate the quarterback when penetrating (low amount of pressures) … Has the size and bulk to stack, but needs more leverage … Has good sideline agility, but will get caught up in traffic (needs to take better angles to the ball) … Gets caught peeking into the backfield a bit when working the zone.

AGILITY TESTS

Timed at 4.71 in the 40-yard dash … Bench presses 225 pounds 26 times … 4.21 in the 20-yard shuttle … 7.16 three-cone drill … 35½-inch vertical jump.

HIGH SCHOOL

Attended Booker (Bradenton, Fla.) High, playing football for coach Leroy Ryals … Class 4A All-State, all-district and all-area selection … Second-leading tackler on the team with 91, including 11 tackles for loss and eight sacks. And also had four interceptions as a senior … Three-time Sarasota Herald-Tribune Player of the Week … Teammate of USF nose tackle Greg Walls … Coach Ryals joined Maurice as the running backs coach at USF until leaving after the 2003 season to join the Louisiana State coaching staff … Also played four years of basketball.

PERSONAL

Physical Education major … Son of Vickie Robinson … Born March 15, 1981 in Bradenton, Fla.

Melvin Williams

Position: Defensive End

College: Kansas State

Height: 6-2

Weight: 269

Career Notes | Agility | High School | Personal | Stats

ANALYSIS

Positives: Shows good lateral quickness, agility, balance and body control … Has very good reactions as a pass rusher, reading the plays well … Uses his hands to keep blockers off his feet and has the strong leg drive needed to speed through traffic and make plays laterally … Shows good hip flexibility … Maintains balance while rushing and chasing, bringing his hips to drive through ball carriers … Has an exceptionally explosive closing burst … His burst off blocks consistently lets him get pressure on the quarterback … Uses a variety of moves (club, rip, swim, jerk) and his long arms to gain separation.

Negatives: Lacks bulk to be effective when redirecting inside and appears soft in the mid-section … Gets overpowered and mauled at times, as he tends to get out of control and start leaning on blockers, causing him to reach, lunge and dive to make the play … Stands too high in his stance, letting blockers get into his chest too quickly … Needs to wrap up and finish his tackles better, as he does not always sit and anchor to gain proper explosion … While he can penetrate the backfield quickly, he does not get effective speed in his long pursuit.

=============================

Kori Dickerson

Position: Fullback/Tight End/H-Back

Height: 6-4 - 240 - USC

ANALYSIS

Positives: Versatile athlete who played a variety of positions … Has a quick first step, showing the speed and body control to be an effective short-area receiver … Has good running ability after the catch … Keeps his balance when striking low as a blocker … Has a fiery demeanor and impressive power behind his blocks … Shows good quickness off the line and adjusts well to uncover the pass in the short area … Holds on to the ball securely moving through traffic … Can easily extend and adjust to the ball in flight … Determined drive blocker who has the strength to reach and turn the defender upfield … Shows good arm extension and the ability to snatch the ball away from his body.

Negatives: Seems sluggish getting into his vertical routes, laboring at times to get his motor running upfield … Lacks the hand usage and upper body power to escape the jam … More comfortable catching in the short area, lacking that second gear and acceleration point to escape defenders upfield (gathers some before building up a head of steam) … Drifts in and out of his patterns on deep routes.

is it just me, or am I missing something, but do these players seem a bit old for just leaving college? Kori Dickerson would be almost 27 now, Melvin Williams 26, and Maurice Jones 24(well this ones more normal).

I wouldnt wanna draft some 27 year old as opposed to a 22 year old.

edit: sorry, didnt read the full title, or hear the news yet, my bad.

Dahrran Diedrick

Height: 6-0

Weight: 228

Position: RB

College: Nebraska

Analysis

Positives: Well-built with good overall muscle definition...Has the straight-line quickness to get out of his stance suddenly...Keeps his balance vs. hard tackles and uses his size well to gain yardage running through traffic...Will pick and slide through his rush lanes... Has a good burst when he spots the seams, running with proper body lean...Keeps his legs churning upon initial contact and does a nice job of breaking arm tackles.

Negatives: Just a straight-line runner, lacking the change of direction agility and top-end speed to turn the corner...Struggles to accelerate out of his cuts (seems to flail his arms when trying to make the hard cut)...Does not have the quickness to cut back through the backside holes...Late seeing the holes, often running up his blockers' backs...Runs choppy pass routes and look awkward trying to catch the ball, lacking natural hands to pluck and snatch...Generally taken out of the game in passing downs...Does not relish the idea of blocking, standing too tall and narrow in his base to face up and sustain...Needs to secure the ball better before running (high amount of fumbles)...Has had two off-field incidents resulting in suspensions (see police blotter)...Needs to gather himself before getting to top speed...Lacks jump-cut agility to make tacklers miss...Does not use his power to move the pile, preferring to elude rather than run through tackles.

That's a great question. He wasn't a vet nor mormon like Chad Lewis and wasn't a 2nd round pick like LJ Smith, I guess.

Every year there are "camp players" and everyone tried to say he was one but I always wanted us to carry another TE to see what he could do.

I never understood why everyong wanted to keep Dickerson. He never really showed much of anything. He didn't look like he was better then Chad or LJ, and they are both having nice seasons, so I doubt he would have. The only role I would have liked him to serve was to be a Josh Parry or Eric McCoo, incase he was needed if a TE got injured, since he was already firmiliar with the offense.

Thats what we said last spring, when the Skins signed Demetric Evans, Ron Warner, Joe Salave'a, Ryan Clark, Chris Clemons, Ryan Boschetti, etc., and Greg Williams did wonders with them.

I got news for you. Starting next week after the season ends for the Redskins, they WILL sign many of their camp fodder guys. Contracts for the entire practice squad expire next week and they will have to be resigned.

These are the type of players Gibbs built with in the past...Unheralded, undrafted, hungry players that he could mold and get them to play to the best of their abilities and play smart....If players like this make a team they give it an edge, b/c they play w/a chip on their shoulder....Kinda like an undrafted MLB that starts for the Skins now...
