Jerry Jones Trying to Hit Homers On Every Pitch.......

just like his ex-star, Deion Sanders, Jerry Jones has no patience at the plate.

He paid $12 million in bonus to Joey Galloway when he could have drafted a better receiver in this year's draft with one of his traded picks that Seattle got.

Then he swings for the fences by drafting a total project in Quincy Carter at #2 despite the fact no one else was going to select him before round 5..........his rationale?

He thought it would take 3 or 4 years to develop Carter and he needed to select him in a round where he felt comfortable giving him a contract of that length.....Say What?

Then last year he took Dwayne Goodrich at #2 despite the fact Goodrich had hardly played as a senior after sustaining injuries. He was banking on Goodrich recapturing his form from 2 years earlier when Dwayne was a top prospect. Again, a player Jerry could have had a couple of rounds later.

Now, all the stuff with acquiring Banks, a perennial disappointment at quarterback, and counting on old Emmitt to save his bacon at age 33.

Ain't gonna happen. Looks like 1989 all over again, except this time there is no Jimmy Johnson to save Jones.

Snyder found Schottenheimer to coach the Skins.

Who is going to work for Jones?

Nobody with any prior experience that's for sure.

[ January 25, 2002: Message edited by: Die Hard ]

That's why the comparisons of Danny to jerrah are unfair.

Danny is man enough to admit his mistakes, which actually weren't as numerous as some would lead you to believe.

However Dallas with the large amount of cap space next year can rebound quickly if they get a football man in there to run things.

Snyder came in to the league an admitted fan and neophyte. He was anxious and eager to make his mark, and do whatever necessary to make a quick run at a Superbowl.

This was reinforced by the 1999 season and our run to the playoffs. He had every right to feel that his no nonsense approach, and his demands for results were the catalyst for that run.

Then in 2000 he was assured that by adding some key ingredients to a team that came up two games short, we could get over the hump. The startegy was to build a team that could get past TB and the Rams in the playoffs, and I don't recall too many naysayers at the time.

Injuries and lousy kicking derailed that plan, and the team fell apart.

But it was a heroic effort on an owner's part to make a run when it appeared that the opportunity was there.

But Snyder can't take all the heat because it failed. Decisions on player acquisitions that ended uip busting our cap could not have come in a vacuum. We had a coach, GM, cap guru, and others there to advise Snyder, as well as informal advisers such as Sonny. Did thye fight him, did he personally overrrule them, or did they willingly go along for the ride?

But he has since shown that he knows that what he lacks is the basic football knowledge. So he went and got an outstanding coach AND teacher. Those players aren;t the only ones that Marty is teaching. He's likely Snyder's mentor as well.

Sure, Snyder is the lightning rod, but he's no Jerry Jones, an egomaniacal GM wannabe who only keeps his own counsel.

We can all hope that the timing is right for Norvaless to return to Jerry when he tires of Campo.

Perhaps by that time, Norvaless will want to be headman again, and I'm sure his return to Dallass would spell doom for them for as long as Jerry keeps him onboard.

I doubt he'll get a 7 year pass though.

what you said Dave about "getting a football man in there" has been Jones' problem all along. I doubt he is going to change any time soon. His ego is still too big and he needs the humbling experience of a couple of 1-15 seasons to bring him back to earth.

His claim to knowledge of the game is he was on the Arkansas college championship team in the early 1960's.

That doesn't seem like a huge resume for a guy who aspires to be the General Manager of a professional team.

There are guys who are PRO players for 10 years and then in personnel for another 5-7 before they get the chance to start influencing draft day decisions and free agent signings.

Goodrich and Carter are dog draft picks the past two years at #2. The #1's were dealt for Galloway, who I would have passed on to get one of this year's top receivers.

So that means Dallas has no young core to build around for the future. One year of free agency is not going to solve that.

Top-tier free agents aren't going to go to a team that looks to be a certain loser.

Dallas has no quarterback, no backup to Smith, no youth outside and a line with two older players in Stepnoski and Allen and two overrated 25 year old players in Flozell Adams and Solomon Paige.

On defense, this team is a nightmare. If last year's team was poor, just consider what the team will do minus Ryan McNeil and Phillippi Sparks at corner.

It's bombs away on the Cowboys this year. And into the future.

The demise of the Cowboys was written on the walls the day Jerrah told Jimmy Johnson to take a hike as he could do a better job running the Cowboys. HA!laugh.gif

"He paid $12 million in bonus to Joey Galloway when he could have drafted a better receiver in this year's draft with one of his traded picks that Seattle got."

Faults and all, Galloway is a proven, quality NFL receiver, albeit an overpaid one. However, as you should know, nothing is guaranteed in the draft. Ever. Jerry decided to pull the trigger one last time last season in an attempt to make one last run at a Superbowl with the Emmitt and Troy show. He decided that if he was going to do this, he better get a playmaking wide receiver that is a guarantee, not a risk. I guess no one counted on him blowing his knee out.

but a competent GM would have know the Cowboys had declined beyond the point where a single signing would reverse their fortunes.

just like a real GM would never have given Sanders an $8 million bonus here in Washington when no one else was willing to committ to more than $3 or $4 million.

Galloway at 29 has never made the Pro Bowl. He has posted numbers that are a step below what guys like Wayne Chrebet produce and yet he is being paid top 5 money.

Galloway has never been a top 5 player in the NFL and I have to question if ANY receiver other than a young Jerry Rice is worth $12 million in cash up front.
