BSG is my hero. Here you go. And for the record, I sent him 3 Skins questions he ignored.

Buzzmaster: A'ight.. send your questions for Simmons now! He'll be here soon .. (hint, good time for a bathroom break)

Bill Simmons: Hey everyone, sorry I'm late

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seamus (Boston): Are we in the midst of a golden age in Boston sports up here right now or does the mid-80s still have the edge?

Bill Simmons: I can't remember the last time 2 different Boston teams were on the cover of S.I. in back-to-back weeks... I feel like I'm 16 again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gmoney (Cleveland): Kellen Winslow, Jr.: PTPer or biggest bust/crybaby since Ryan Leaf?

Bill Simmons: I think PTP'er - I like thew Garcia-Winslow connection. Plus, he's completely insane. I'm glad he's in the league.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stan (New York): Do you have your "Dog"for this chat?

Bill Simmons: I absolutely have my "dog." When did "eye of the tiger" turn into "dog," by the way? Can't we go back to the old way? Survivor needs the royalies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sean (St. Louis): What's the probablitiy that this year's NHL season will never take place?

Bill Simmons: I would say about 100%.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

John (Cambridge): In regards to your column today, I also have a soft spot in my heart for Jets fans. What is the deal with Pennington though? Every Jets fan I know swear he's the second coming, better than Brady blah blah blah...Now even though he has a weaker arm than Johnny Damon I'll admit he's a smart quarterback and has many good intangibles even though he did his best "Peyton Manning in a big game" in the AFC champ. game 2 years ago. What's your take on him?

Bill Simmons: I like Pennington a lot - I think he was just injured last season. I'm a believer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chris (Chicago): best chance for a suprising season, Arizone Cardinals or San Francisco 49ers?

Bill Simmons: I like the Niners... it's crazy, there's no rational reason for it other than their division and the Ewing Theory potential. You can get 10-1 odds on them right now that they will make the playoffs. I liked the way they finished the season last year against Seattle. We should know by now that there's no rhyme or reason to any NFL team going 10-6.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scotso (New York): Great Goodfellas column, I'm surprised you didn't do one sooner. Nice try on the reverse Jets jinx. And yes, I know that makes me "one of those" Jets fans. Honestly, though, next time, just come right out and say that you hope the Jets lose every game by 28 points.

Bill Simmons: I swear, I wasn't reverse jinxing them. I even wagered on them to make the playoffs. I would have bet on them to win the Super Bowl at 35-1, but obviously I couldn't do that with the Pats - still, I think they're the best longshot bet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SaintsFan (Dallas): What are your feelings on the Saints upcoming season? Do you feel this is a make or break year for Haslett?

Bill Simmons: I'm answering that one in Part 2 of tomorrow's column... let's just say that i'm a little skeptical.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jeff (Springfield): Bill, i am a diehard Dolphins fan. Can offer me some hope or should i just pack it in and hope Ricky returns from his magical mystery tour next year?

Bill Simmons: I would start you should start getting ready for Shaq and the Heat.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jon (San Diego): Also, who's going to be the 1st NFL head coach fired this season. I'm hoping for Schottenheimer just because I hate the Chargers.

Bill Simmons: I'm going with Wannstadt. They should have fired him last winter, now he's a dead man walking without Ricky. He's a classic example of someone who was much better off as a coordinator.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joe (Syracuse): Call me crazy, but I have a jinx theory of my own. Don Mattingly is back in pinstripes this year as the Yanks' hitting coach. They never made the playoffs when he played until his last season and we can thank Edgar Martinez and Griffey for ending that one. The Yanks don't seem to have it this year and Donnie is back on the bench...coincidence? I think not.

Bill Simmons: I hope you're right...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meghan (DC): Interesting knock on McNabb/TOs planned TD celebrations...however, if the WRs you had to throw to in your entire pro career were Na Brown, Todd Pinkston, James Thrash, Torrance Small, and Charles Johnson, don't you think you might be excited at the possibility of having someone to celebrate with?

Bill Simmons: I think I would be more concerned about studing defenses and winning ballgames then planning a choreographed seven-step handshake/chest bump/pointing routin, especially when my team blew the last 3 NFC title games. But that's just me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ray (Thornwood, NY): Whats your opinion about the NFL mandate to interview at least one Black person for an open head coach position? Hispanics account for at least 35% of MLB however you dont see any mandate to interview a Hispanic for a MLB managers position. Whats your thoughts?

Bill Simmons: Obviously this is an important question for you since you've posted it 700 times. I think it's a pretty strange rule, only because the inherent implication is that NFL owners are so biased, they actually needed to create a rule to force them to interview at least one minority candidate. You would think they would do this on their own.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joe Mot (Mattituck, NY): Is it me or is Mike Vick just Randall Cunningham only with more injury problems? I just don't see him winning a ring in his career.

Bill Simmons: I'm starting to wonder if you're right... they had to change their offense to keep him from getting creamed, when the reality is that he's much better off in an offense where he can scamper around and improvise on the fly. And yet that same offense makes him a huge injury risk. I'm not sure what they should do. He looked terrible in the preseason.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tim (Boston): How about those Red Sox? What are the chances they catch the Yankees? I would say pretty good.

Bill Simmons: The worst thing that could have happened was that 22-0 game last week - it woke the Yanks up. I don't care about the schedules because, if you're playing well, it doesn't matter who's on tape - as the Anaheim series last week and the Oakland series this week showed. I think it's going to come down to that final series in Fenway in late-September... I don't think the Sox are going away, and I don't think the Yanks are ready to roll over, not with Jeter and Rivera involved.

Bill Simmons: The one thing that ticks me off is El Duque, who's suddenly turned into Cy Young. These things only happen to the Yankees. It's unbelievable. Anyone could have had him for like 20 bucks last winter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Al (Pittsburgh): Steelers are already being counted out by most analysts. Their secondary is the big question mark but they did add some youth and speed. With Lebeau trying to bring back "Blitzburgh" do you think the D will fare any better this year? Also, with a healthier O-Line and Duce on Offense, Maddox should have that extra second he lacked last year to get the ball out. Do you see any chance for playoffs in the Steelers future?

Bill Simmons: Maddox is terrible. He's going to kill them. But they may have lucked out with Rothlisberger, everyone has been raving about that guy. They just need someone to be mediocre at the QB spot and they can make the playoffs. Maddox is brutal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tim Richardson (Fort Worth,TX): What are the chances that the cowboys first round pick next year from Buffalo, will be a top ten?

Bill Simmons: Pretty good. But would you rather have a top-ten pick and Julius Jones, or would you rather have Stephen Jackson and make a run at a subpar conference this season? Stockpiling picks can be overrated sometimes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Josh (NYC): You've said twice now that El Duque's sudden metamorphosis is something that "only happens to the Yankees." But coming from a Sox fan, I mean really. Ortiz? Bill Mueller? Mark Bellhorn? These guys were terrible until they became Red Sox. Let's be fair, both teams are pretty awesome at picking up guys from the scrap heap and watching them turn to gold.

Bill Simmons: That's not true about any of those guys. All of them had shown flashes in other places - they just needed PT.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dan (Caro Street): Is Theo proving himself to be the genius that I think he is? Over two years he consistently says the right thing and makes intelligent moves. How would you grade his performance thus far?

Bill Simmons: I'd give him a solid A-minus. The Suppan trade and the BK Kim trade-signing were his 2 big misses, but he's done a great job with everything else. He even set up the ARod-Magglio trades last winter - it wasn't his fault that his owners wouldn't pull the trigger.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ian (Princeton, NJ): El Duque hadn't shown flashes?

Bill Simmons:

Bill Simmons: He had, but his career was considered to be finished by just about everyone.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nomar G. (Chicago, IL): Do you miss me?

Bill Simmons: Not really.

Bill Simmons: Ray from Thornwood -= please stop posting questions, go on Ebay and try to find a life.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mia Hamm (Chicago): Well, do you miss me?

Bill Simmons: Not really, no.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike (Reno): I'm not one to criticize anyone for not working hard, but where the hell have your top sports movies picks been the last couple of weeks? You bash on Spike, worship Dawson, and then nothing?

Bill Simmons: It's just a question of timing: It's going to be an ongoing thing over the next 18 months - there's going to be no rhyme or reason to when the columns go up. Like last week, I needed to write that 1984 column, and this week is NFL stuff. So it depends on the week.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SC (Texas): Is Real World Philadelphia gonna just be a barely legal porno? How long until this series has to go to Pay-per-View?

Bill Simmons: See, this is something I always thought HBO should consider. They could basically rip off the Real World, only with swearing and showing all the stuff that MTV can't show. If I were in charge of HBO, I would greenlight a show with 8 wanna-be actors and actresses all living in a huge mansion in Hollywood Hills for six months, then trying to get their big break. All hell would break loose. I can't believe this hasn't happened yet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scot Boken (Miami): SC's question brings up a great point....what would the Top 5 shows of all time be, if they could have been shown on HBO with language and nudity?

Bill Simmons: Off the top of my head, in no particular order...

1. Melrose Place

2. CSI

3. Wiseguy

4.The White Shadow

I need to think about this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bennis (Doston): Nice, I have never heard you make any comments about the movie Hardball. I think this is one of the more underrated sports movies...just a thought...

Bill Simmons: Check the September 2001 archives, wrote a whole column about it

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chad (Atlanta): Sports Nation is no longer. In one day you have changed it to TV Guide! Congrats.

Bill Simmons: thanks Chad!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matt (KC): Top 5 for its time would have been Three's Company..I loved it just for the thought of the activities going on...much less seeing it

Bill Simmons: excellent

fantasy island would have been good too. And Vegas.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Patrick (New York): Top 2 shows to be on HBO - Miami Vice and 90210. Drugs, guns and nubile 30 year olds playing teens.

Bill Simmons: good ones

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mark (New York): I know this is obvious, but how can Baywatch miss the language-nudity list?

Bill Simmons: absolutely

this has now ruined the rest of my day - I will not be able to stop thinking about this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Golinske (Detroit): Picked up a copy of some NFL pundit mag and saw they picked Indy to go all the way. I've seen multiple other sources pick the gamut from Seattle to even friggin' Jacksonville. How can "experts" ignore New England, yet again? They only picked up a solid RB, their biggest hole, and only had nominal turnover from their Championship team. I know you're a biased fan, but heck, even a Lions fan can see picking anyone over the Pats this year is foolish!

Bill Simmons: I don't know... this year's team is better than last year's team, unlike what happens with most SB winners. Maybe it's the whole "We'll they still be as hungry?" thing. I don't think that will be a problem - we're now at the point where one more SB means they're the team of the decade. I think it's important to those guys.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adam (Buffalo, ny): This is a big what if....what if bledsoe comes out this year and just has a monster season like the first half of 2002...with their potential running attack and really good defense should your pats worry?

Bill Simmons: It's going to be hard for him to scramble around with the pitchfork sticking out of his back. I think that's a potential problem there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ben (Raleigh): Was the New England-Carolina game the most highly contested preseason game you have ever seen? I swear the entire game I was worried Steve Smith was going to brutally attack Tyrone Poole for the spitting incident in the Super Bowl, I could just feel it coming.

Bill Simmons: I agree... that was a fantastic game. I don't understand how anyone thinks Carolina won't make the playoffs again. Right now in Vegas, they're +105 to make the playoffs. Not even even odds! How are there 6 better NFC teams then the Panthers?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sean (Boston): Who's gonna be running the Celtics offense this year? Payton or someone else and is Tommy gonna be able to actually say anything nice about his game?

Bill Simmons: GP is on his way. Hasn't been announced yet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bill (San Jose): Why is everryone in love with Jake Plummer?!? Hasn't anyone been watching his pro career?

Bill Simmons: fantastic question. it's inexplicable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike (Tampa): SUICIDE POOL must pick a winner what are your thoughts for a suprisingly difficult first week!

Bill Simmons: Philly over the Giants.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ben: Whos the better fantasy backup qb? david carr or leftwich?

Bill Simmons: I like David Carr a lot... seems like he's ready to make The Leap

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brian (New York): What are your top 5 picks with the spread for Week 1?

Bill Simmons: You have to wait until Friday - I'm putting up picks every Friday. I'm going 50 games over .500 this year. That's what we're naming the column - 50 over 500.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matt (San Francisco): Where do you rank Bruce Smith singing on the new Coors Light commercial on the Unintential Comedy Rankings?

Bill Simmons: That ad kills me. I love Rich Eisen in the beginning, he's so awkward, it's like he just wants to get through the first set of lyrics so he can go home and hang himself.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jaime C. (Houston, TX): Who do you think the "Anquan Boldin" sleeper-surprise type will be fantasy-wise this year?

Bill Simmons: Brandon Lloyd or Michael Clayton

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brandon (Detroit): Why Carr over Harrington? In your NFL column today you said Harrington's 29 TDs & 38 INTs were bad numbers... But Carr has 18 TDs & 28 INTs over the same span... Also, their QB rating is nearly identical.

Bill Simmons: Yeah, but Carr has much more pressure on him - the first pick on an expansion team. Plus he was hurt last year. I think he's a gamer, I like him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greg (Boston): Is it really a debate between Manny and Shef for MVP? Seems to me Manny's numbers are much better in every category. Your thoughts.

Bill Simmons: Right now I would give it to Sheff... but let's see how the next 3 weeks pan out

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Justin (NY): So you are basically saying that if you pick 5 games a week that you expect to go 68-17? Impossible

Bill Simmons: I'm picking every game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dave (Harrisburg): Does Nomar qualify for the Ewing Theory?

Bill Simmons: Of course!

Whoops, they're telling me I need to leave. Sorry... thanks to everyone who sent in questions!
