Zen-like Todd
Redskins | Draft Pick Update - from KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com) July 23, 2001 18:44:56 PT According to the Washington Post, the Washington Redskins are apparently close to agreements with fourth-round QB Sage Rosenfels and fifth-round WR Darnerien McCants, but team officials are concerned about the progress of talks with first-round WR Rod Gardner and second-round CB Fred Smoot. The Redskins hope to complete deals with Rosenfels and McCants by Thursday, when the team's rookies are scheduled to begin three days of practices at Redskins Park. bulldog
The first and second picks are always the last to sign unless you get the overall #1 pick and have a chance to get a predraft agreement in place. I think Gardner will get done the day before camp, while Smoot may take longer. If Sanders reports, Smoot's leverage for more bucks will be reduced to near nil and he will have to take the Redskins offer.
indyskinsfan
Thanks Bulldog and TheChosenOne, I stood corrected on the earlier statements I made about signings. I now have a protected backside
NavyDave
Smoot might as well face facts, he will not get first round money as the 15th pick in the 2nd round. If he holds out he only helps the status of L Harrison. ------------------ Dave
