Brave
OK, let me start by saying I do believe Brad Johnson to be a better overall QB than Shaun King right now. Still, looking at the numbers, Tampa Bay's acquisition doesn't look that great. 2000 Johnson - 11 TDs / 15 INTs King - 18 TDs / 13 INTs Johnson - 2505 yds. 75.7 rating King - 2769 yds. 75.8 rating That's right. Going strictly by the numbers from last season, Tampa Bay went and replaced their QB with someone who performed worse. Bucs92, your thoughts? bulldog
the thing that makes BOTH quarterbacks suspect is their record in big games. Johnson was awful in his Monday Night appearances early in 2000. His play in the Buccaneers playoff game in 1999 was awful as well. With the season riding on the outcome of the game and at home, Johnson had perhaps his worst game in 2 years with the team in that 9-7 loss to the Giants. His play was so poor even Norv, Johnson's NFL godfather, had to replace him with the anti-Christ, Jeff George in the fourth quarter. King likewise struggles against better opponents. Look at his performance in the first Vikings game last year or the game at Fedex vs. the Redskins. Then you can look at his 1999 playoff performance against the Rams and again in 2000 against Philly. That is 9 total points scored in his last TWO playoff games. King has a winning career record because like Dilfer last year, he played on a team with a good supporting cast on defense. Shaun King on the Falcons or Patriots would struggle to stay on the field.
NavyDave
I thought he was replaced only after players and assistants plval to bring in J George. It is going to be so sweet to see how the Bucs fail this time. It's like they are the Redsox of football always close but not close enough ------------------ Dave [ by NavyDave on July 20, 2001.]
