jimster
Wycheck Expected to Announce Retirement Friday Jan 22, 7:44 PM (ET) Email this Story NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Frank Wycheck, the fourth tight end in NFL history with at least 500 career receptions, is expected to retire Friday. The Tennessee Titans confirmed Thursday night that Wycheck will speak at the beginning of an afternoon news conference. Wycheck, an 11-year veteran from Maryland, had said he would take a week or two to decide his future before announcing his decision. Wycheck sustained a pair of concussions this season that caused him to miss six games. He returned because he wanted one last chance at winning a Super Bowl, but the Titans lost to eventual AFC champion New England 17-14 in the playoffs. The tight end led the franchise in receptions five consecutive seasons, and has 505 receptions, 5,126 yards and 28 touchdowns in his career. Wycheck caught four passes for 26 yards in this season's playoffs. But his role declined in the past two seasons as the Titans' offense evolved and began using more three- and four-receiver sets. Chrisbob74
Whist we can bash Turnip for letting this guy go (and rightfully so to a point), but sometimes it's just a case of the wrong place at the wrong time. Wycheck made a good career for himself in Tennessee. Hope he has a happy retirement.
