11 Injured and One Missing After Apparent Explosion at Fort Worth Hotel

 

At least 11 people were injured and one person was missing after an apparent explosion that caused substantial damage to a hotel in downtown Fort Worth on Monday afternoon, the police said.

 

One person was in critical condition and two were in serious condition, Craig Trojacek, a spokesman for the Fort Worth Fire Department, said at a news conference. Eight others had minor injuries, he added.

 

It was unclear what caused the apparent explosion at the Sandman Signature hotel. Mr. Trojacek said that there was “a smell of gas in the area,” but that it was unclear whether gas played a role.

 

Video footage and images from the scene showed substantial damage to to the ground floor of the hotel and debris littered across the street.

Apparently up to 21 injured now:

 

Explosion at Fort Worth hotel injures 21

 

At least 20 people were injured Monday as a result of a gas explosion at a downtown Fort Worth hotel, according to the fire department.

 

The first call came in at 3:32 p.m., followed by multiple calls reporting a "type of explosion" at the Sandman Hotel, located at 810 Houston St., according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.

 

Twenty-one people were injured as a result of the explosion, the Public Information Officer for the Fort Worth Police Department, J. Pollozani said Monday night.

 

One patient is reported as critically injured and four are seriously injured. All the other patients reported minor injuries.
