WASHINGTON—Several of the nation’s top uniformed military officers have gone into quarantine after attending meetings at the Pentagon with a top Coast Guard commander who tested positive this week for Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Coast Guard Adm. Charles Ray, the vice commandant, tested positive on Monday after exhibiting symptoms over the weekend, the Coast Guard said. He has since been quarantining at home. Before his diagnosis, Adm. Ray had attended meetings with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a body that consists of the top commanders from each of the armed services.

After officials learned of his diagnosis, the Joint Chiefs were tested and were negative but are quarantining at home, defense officials said.
