He seemed better on FG's today but his kickoffs are still short If he goes Elam is out there. Also Vinatieri is also a FA. Elam is gonna cost alot. Why don't we just sign Heath, Larry Bowie, Jamie Asher, Marvus Patton, Chris Dishman, Stanley Richards, Terry Allen and a bunch of the others? bulldog Posted December 23, 2001 Share Posted December 23, 2001 With some major moves to make to resign players and make some additions, Marty is not going to invest major dollars in bringing in a high profile kicker. Conway is a decent kicker who overall has done a decent job this season, if not a little better than that. For the money, we have gotten what we have paid for. Which was not the case last year. I agree that Conway should not be a lock to return. If we see another veteran released or have the opportunity to draft a kicker late that has potential, I am in favor of providing Brett some competition. But, I don't think you can automatically cut Conway based on his numbers and then use any rational argument to bring back Tony Banks based on his numbers. Any time you have a qb with a rating under 75.0, that is cause for alarm. You go back and check the qb ranking for Theismann or Rypien in the years the Skins went 14-2 and you will see Pro Bowl numbers and a top 3 passer rating. You see the same thing from the Rams with Warner, the Raiders with Gannon and the Packers with Favre and that is why they are going to the playoffs and we are not. As for conway, did anyone notice how good some of kickoffs were today? We pinned them at the 15 on on kickoff from a real high kick that was just beautiful. He had a short one early, but if i remember they only moved it to like the 35, which is not bad. We have more pressing needs than kicker. Do we bring in competition? yes.
