That and this report from the Rocky Mountain News' Lynn DeBruin Richard Berthelsen, general counsel for the players union, said Wednesday it is challenging both suspensions imposed by the Denver Broncos against the controversial defensive tackle. "They're not justified in our view," Berthelsen said. He predicted the suspension would be overturned or at least reduced. "I'm not aware of where an arbitrator has upheld a suspension under these circumstances," he said. Berthelsen cited two recent cases involving Terry Glenn and Renaldo Turnbull that were decided in the players' favor. The New England Patriots suspended Glenn for the entire season, but that was reduced to four games. Turnbull's suspension was reduced to one game. Berthelsen declined to comment on speculation that the Broncos might go after Gardener's $5 million signing bonus. But if the team does, expect the NFLPA to file another grievance.
