Game Preview: Redskins vs. Seattle, Week 9

11/06/2003

The Redskins (3-5) return to FedExField this Sunday for an inter-conference matchup with the Seattle Seahawks (6-2). Game time is 1 p.m. EST. The Redskins and head coach Steve Spurrier are seeking to regroup after four consecutive losses, including last Sunday's disappointing 21-14 loss to NFC East rival Dallas.

Seattle, led by head coach Mike Holmgren, is in first place in the NFC West. The Seahawks defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-16, thanks to two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Wide receiver Darrell Jackson, a protégé of Spurrier at Florida, scored one touchdown on a 14-yard pass from Matt Hasselbeck (Tim’s brother) and set up another on a 43-yard reception.

The Redskins and Seahawks last played nearly one year ago, on Nov. 3, 2002, at Seahawks Stadium. Washington won 14-3, coming up with several key defensive stops in the red zone. Bruce Smith recorded two sacks, five tackles and a forced fumble in the game, while Rod Gardner and Darnerien McCants scored touchdowns.

Washington leads the all-time series 7-4. The Seahawks played their first road game in franchise history at RFK Stadium, losing to the Redskins 31-7 on Sept. 19, 1976. But three of the Seahawks four wins against the Redskins have come in Washington.
