The 2010 Washington Redskins encountered their first major bump in the road in terms of injuries on Saturday when free safety Kareem Moore went down with a sprained knee.

Moore was injured during a “fake” punt run by the Ravens in the second quarter. Moore said that he went down while chasing Haruki Nakamura as the Ravens punt protector took a direct snap and rumbled 51 yards to the one. He wasn’t exactly sure what happened, but it appears that he was not in contact with another player when he went down. Mike Shanahan described it as a “fluke” injury.

On Monday, Moore underwent arthroscopic surgery on the knee. Shanahan declined to provide any details about the injury to reporters. It is believed that he suffered from a sprained MCL in his right knee; however, it would be unusual to get surgery on a knee if a sprained ligament was the only issue.

There are reports that he hopes to be back for the Redskins’ season opener against Dallas on Sept. 12. That would appear to be a highly optimistic goal as practice for that game starts in two weeks. Shanahan said that Moore will miss 4-6 weeks. Counting from the day of the surgery, the low end of that estimate would have Moore returning for Washington’s Week 3 trip to St. Louis, and the high end would have him making his season debut in Week 5 against the Packers. The Redskins travel to Philadelphia in between those two games.

It's unfortunate Kareem got hurt but it's football. The Ravens have the right to use the preseason games however they want.

Yes they do, and I hope that it comes back to haunt them. They game planned for that game and our promising starting safety go hurt on a trick play. You are right they can be as low class as possible. Zorn getting a gatorade bath in preseason is actually funny.
