Look at the Numbers

Look at each of the following NFL quarterback's statistics in their first four years as a starting quarterback in the NFL. Campbell has only been a starter for four years.

Be objective, folks. The numbers do not lie.

Campbell is better than McNabb and McNabb is way better than Eli Manning (ergo Campbell is way better than Eli). And, McNabb and Eli had much better O-lines to protect them, give them time to find an open receiver, and make the running game more productive to force the defense to keep the defensive secondary up to support run defense (open passing lanes).

We just downgraded today exchanging a QB in his prime with one whose best days are behind him.

I agree, all of the knocks against Campbell (low completion percentage, holds the ball too long, etc) are true of McNabb. McNabb just had much better talent around him in Philadelphia. Campbell might not have been an elite QB but he was far from the biggest problem on this team.

Yet, despite the numbers, the team was 5-7 under Campbell until Collins came in. And, with everything else EXACTLY THE SAME, Collins and the Redskins dominated their last 4 opponents and made the playoffs.

Sometimes, stats aside, players are not winners. Campbell doesn't appear to be a winner in the NFL. On the other hand, McNabb may not be a big-game winner but he's won big games. He got his team to 4 or 5 NFC Championship games over a decade.

You can make numbers say anything you want. I can show you stats of Devin Thomas, TO, Steve Smith, Ochocinco, and Reggie Wayne. Just because Devin Thomas' first year numbers were close to theirs doesn't mean he will turn out to be like them.
