wildbill1952
What may be a sign of good drafting (or bad depth) is that although we normally have few draft picks, we have been pretty decent at finding late round players. 2008: Chris Horton (7th) 2007: H.B. Blades (6th) 2006: Montgomery (5th) Doughty (6th) Golston (6th) That in itself makes me feel that our problem isn't as much evaluation of talent as it is just not having enough picks, or sometimes reaching for a player. Hopefully this year if we have a 7th as a compensatory pick, we'll be able to find another late round gem. I like every one of these players as guys who stuck around more than their draft status would have led you to believe from the outset. But the question really, is are they here because of their talent or does the lack of earlier, more talented picks means the team is forced to keep lesser talented, later round picks? For instance if we'd had another first or second rounder and we picked up a Merriman, would we have Blades? Would the team have kept him for the past 3 years based on his potential? Just curious.
