Recent Vintage
Dudes, those posts were made when Mathis was still on the team. Anyway I was wondering about people's opinions on our OLine, and rookies. I think pretty much everyone can agree that the starting line is going to be Samuels, Kendall, Rabach, Thomas, and Jansen. That leaves the backups, for which we presumably are leaving 4 roster spots open for. We have three viable backups on the roster in Heyer, Fabini, and Wade. Heyer showed a lot of potential last season and I think could be a future starter. Fabini was decent as a backup guard, which is awesome because he played tackle the entirety of his career until then. Wade, IMO is going to get cut. Heyer supplanted him as a starter late last season, and the staff doesn't have any confidence in him as a guard, that's why we got Kendall. Rinehart's taken a few snaps at center, which I like, because with Pucillo gone we don't really have anyone there. So with Fabini, Heyer, and Rinehart that leaves one spot, presumably to be battled out between Crummey, Brown, and DeVan. Unless they're planning on grooming DeVan to replace Rabach, I don't really see him cracking the roster. Now even though Crummey played guard his entire career at Maryland, the NFL draft page lists him as a center. Not sure why, perhaps he was scouted exclusively as a center? Either way, if he could he a legit backup center and backup guard he could get the spot. Brown really intrigues me because he's he played very well against LSU and Michigan. The fact that his best showings are against top competition points to a huge amount of potential Brown could have. Thoughts? Am I discounting Wade? Am I too jaded by Heyer being good to think that these UDFAs could contribute?
GibbsforPrez
Here's what I'm thinking the roster is shaping up to look like for opening day: Offense (24) QB (3; These guys pretty much know where they stand in the rotation of things) 1 Jason Campbell (Lock) 2 Todd Collins (Lock) 3 Colt Brennan (Lock; simply because the Hawaiins will go crazy if we cut him) RB (3; Same as the QB's, no surprises here) 1 Clinton Portis (Lock) 2 Ladell Betts (Lock) 3 Rock Cartwright (Lock; special teams alone) FB (1) 1 Mike Sellers (Lock; the guy trucks safeties for a living) TE (3; Not sure if we'll have 3 or two; if only 2 def need to add a FB to the mix) 1 Chris Cooley (Lock) 2 Fred Davis (Lock) 3 Todd Yoder WR (5; Pretty much whats expected here, could go with 6 and add Mix into the action) 1 Santana Moss (Lock) 2 Antwan Randle El (Lock) 3 Malcolm Kelly (Lock) 4 Devin Thomas (Lock) 5 James Thrash (Lock; too much of a hard worker and fan favorite not to be) OL (9; Starting 5 is set just need to determine who the backups are and how many) 1 Chris Samuels (Lock) 2 Pete Kendall (Lock) 3 Casey Rabach (Lock) 4 Randy Thomas (Lock) 5 Jon Jansen (Lock) 6 Stephon Heyer (Lock; need to keep getting him work cuz he is the future) 7 Jason Fabini (Lock; too much experience to not have him) 8 Chad Rinehart (Would say he's a lock but is still only a rookie and its too early to tell) 9 Todd Wade (Could easily lose this spot to Crummey or the fact that we may only keep 3 backups since we have Alexancer as well) Defense (26) DE (6; We always seem to keep a ton of lineman probably due to sporatic play and inconsistency) 1 Andre Carter (Lock) 2 Phillip Daniels (Lock) 3 Erasmus James (Lock) 4 Demetric Evans (Lock; guy produces too many key plays) 5 Chris Wilson 6 Rob Jackson DT (4; a thin group but Daniels can always move to the inside) 1 Cornelius Griffin (Lock) 2 Anthony Montgomery (Lock) 3 Kedric Golston (Lock) 4 Lorenzo Alexander (Lock) LB (5; May need to add one more guy cuz Campbell won't cut it if he's required to play consistently) 1 London Fletcher (Lock) 2 Rocky McIntosh (Lock) 3 Marcus Washington (Lock) 4 H.B. Blades (Lock) 5 Khary Campbell (Lock) CB (5; A solid group, not too much going on here) 1 Shawn Springs (Lock) 2 Fred Smoot (Lock) 3 Carlos Rogers (Lock) 4 Leigh Torrence (Lock) 5 Justin Tryon (Sounds like he'll make the squad but once again he's only a rookie) S (6; Just like DE, we seem to keep a lot of these guys on the roster; Inconsistency maybe?) 1 Laron Landry (Lock) 2 Reed Doughty (Lock) 3 Stuart Schweigert (Lock) 4 Kareem Moore 5 Vernon Fox 6 Chris Horton Special Teams (3; No question marks here) K Shaun Suisham (Lock; barring us finding another kicker elsewhere) P Durant Brooks (Lock) LS Ethan Albright (Lock) 8 Man Practice Squad OL Andrew Crummey OL Kerry Brown DE Alex Buzbee DT Ryan Boschetti LB Danny Verdun-Wheeler LB Rian Wallace CB Byron Westbrook CB Cedrick Holt Players On redskins.com roster who won't be on the roster DT Matthias Askew FB Nehemiah Broughton OL Devin Clark QB Derek Devine TE Tyler Ecker P Derrick Frost WR Horace Gant LB Curtis Gatewood OL Justin Geisinger TE Jason Goode DE Kevin Huntley WR Maurice Mann RB Marcus Mason WR Billy McMullen WR Anthony Mix CB Matteral Richardson FB Pete Schmitt RB Eric Shelton LB Matt Sinclair WR Burl Toler OL Tavares Washington Overall I'd say 44 of the 53 spots are accounted for and most of the player battles and decisions on how many guys we keep at certain positions lie at WR, OL, DE, and S

It wouldn't happen unless he earned it.
