Roster Review

let us look to our roster and determine our greatest need.

at DE we have Daniels, Carter and Wilson. so a good prospect is need to eventually replace Daniels.

at CB, Carlos Rogers might no be 100% in sept. so we need to get somebody that come in and play right away. At least provide us reliable backup for either springs or rogers.

WR we have 3 good wide out and some players that the skins will take a look out this coming year. So at WR we need a good prospect so we can develop him.

QB, we are set at QB but we need a 3rd stringer just in case.

LB we are set. but we could get a good ILB prospect for depth in order to be safe just in case Rocky is not ready.

RB we are set there.

OL we need youth.

G we need a good one in order to back up thomas. possibly pick one that can play Center

TE we are set.

FB we might need a backup.

S we are set. but we need a backup for depth.

What do you think about the roster?

HB Blades is the successor to Fletcher at the Mike Linebacker. So I think we need a Will linebacker or a versatile one like we had in Lemar Marshall that can play more than one position.

I think we need to draft a CB for youth/depth insurance.

O line draft draft draft. Injury area, age etc.

Would like a DE from the draft as well.

DT's are "ok" may wait another year there, or a FA for depth.

QB as you said set, just bring in a young guy for 3rd string to groom.

TE set

RB: very set. no moves there.

FB, late round..is Nemo around anymore?

WR, I want a big possession guy with hops, endzone threat etc. for the #2, put El at the 3/slot.

Safety. I'm ok with Reed actually depending on his development..was solid late in the season. Please keep Landry at FS. bring in a FA to push Reed in camps, best guy wins.

I agree for the most part. We only have 2 solid WRs though. We don't know enough about Mix yet - hopefully we'll get to see more from him during training camp and OTAs. We could definitely use another stud wideout to play opposite Moss. But unless we can trade for Chad Johnson, I don't see us taking one with our first pick.

We need a Guard for the future, maybe a center, definitely need another DE prospect.

You can never have enough quality CBs. I could see us drafting one early and also one in a later round. We could use another safety to replace Pierson and challenge Doughty at SS. Unless someone like Phillips falls to us in round 2, I don't see us taking one in the first 3 rounds.

My long winded response...

QB: Jason Campbell, Todd Collins, ???: We have a good young starter in Jason, and a reliable veteran backup in Collins. We will need a third QB at some point, but that shouldnt be too hard to find.

RB: Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright(?), Marcus Mason(PS): Portis and Betts is still a great 1-2 punch. I'd like Rock back, for his special teams more than anything. If he leaves we will need to find a new return man (maybe move Betts back there). I think Mason could be ready to step up as the third back if Rock moves on.

FB: Mike Sellers: I dont know how much Zorn is going to use the fullback, but I'm sure he will find a use for big Mike. We could bring in a backup, but they never seem to stick and may not be necessary.

WR: Santana Moss, Antwaan Randle El, Reche Caldwell(?), James Thrash, Keenan McCardell (?), Mike Espy (PS): We definitely need a big, reliable WR to start next to Moss. I like Hackett. Bryant Johnson is a possibility. I also wouldnt mind trading for Chad Johnson/Roy Williams/Larry Fitzgerald. We could always look through the draft too, but I would prefer to address this need in free agency. If we can get that #2 WR I think our depth is good. El is a good slot WR. I like Caldwell as a #4, I hope we re-sign him. Thrash always has the inside track to make the team because of his ST play. McCardell played well in limited time last year but he's old as dirt now. I'm still not sold on everybody's favorite practice squad player, Mr. Espy.

TE: Chris Cooley, Todd Yoder: Obviously Cooley is an elite tight end. Yoder is a quality backup. We may try again to find a developmental third tight end in the draft or free agency...

OT: Chris Samuels, Jon Jansen, Todd Wade, Stephon Heyer: When healthy, this is a deep and talented group. I would give Jansen the opportunity to start if he proves he is healthy, but I think Stephon will definitely push him. Wade is a quality backup. We are old here though, outside of Heyer, so a late round rookie would be an option.

OG: Randy Thomas, Pete Kendall, Jason Fabini: Thomas and Kendall are good starters, but the depth here is brutal. Fabini is our only backup to speak of (yick) and we have no youth. We definitely need to draft a guard, preferably in the first three rounds. Thomas gets hurt too often and Kendall is probably on his last legs.

C: Casey Rabach, Mike Pucillo: Casey is a solid starter, Pucillo can play when needed. No immediate need here.

DE: Andre Carter, Phillip Daniels, Chris Wilson, Demetric Evans: Carter stepped up this year and Wilson showed he could bea pass rushing specialist. I like Daniels, but he is very little threat as a pass rusher. I'd like to use that first round pick on a big DE who could stop the run (Carter's weakness) and also collapse the pocket. Our defense could take a step to the next level if we have a consistent pass rush.

DT: Cornelius Griffin, Anthony Montgomery, Kedric Golston, Lorenzo Alexander: I think we are actually OK here. Griffin is very solid when healthy. I like Monty a lot and I think he will continue to improve. Golston is also young and provides good depth. Its unclear whether Alexander's future is here or at OG, but he's another young, active body. Unless a pocket collapsing, immediate-impact DT fell into our laps, I think we can stand pat here.

LB: London Fletcher, Marcus Washington, Rocky McIntosh, HB Blades, Randall Godfrey(?): Depth, depth depth. Fletcher and Marcus are aging. Rocky's injury is a concern. I like HB a lot, but he can't be everywhere. We need to find some decent backups and developmental prospects to fill the roster here and possibly fill in for Rocky and/or Washington when he invariably gets injured.

CB: Shawn Springs, Fred Smoot, Carlos Rogers, Leigh Torrence, David Macklin, Byron Westbrook(PS) (?): Springs and Smoot are good starters when healthy. I like Carlos as a third corner, but his offseason recovery is an issue. A rookie pick in the second or third round could solve some of our depth issues. A free agent could help as well, as we will probably need someone who can contribute immediately, but I dont know if such a player is out there. We have failed three times in a row with veteran nickel/dime backs now (Harris, Wright, Macklin).

S: Laron Landry, Reed Doughty, Vernon Fox, Pierson Prioleau(?), Omar Stoutmire(?): Assuming PP and Omar leave, we are going to need new backups here. Maybe a rookie. I think Reed can start but drafting someone who could eventually replace him may not be a bad idea. We will probably just nab some cheap vets in free agency though.

K: Shaun Suisham: He's fine... I guess.

P: Derrick Frost(?): Is Frosty coming back? We'll see...

OT: Chris Samuels, Jon Jansen, Todd Wade, Stephon Heyer: When healthy, this is a deep and talented group. We are old here though, outside of Heyer, so a late round rookie would be an option.

When healthy is a big qualifier. Jansen has played hurt so much the last three seasons that we don't know if he's any good anymore. When "healthy" he wasn't very good in pass protection (key to the WCO). Last year he had another severe injury. Can he even be effective anymore? Wade is injury prone. Heyer was a decent backup but he hasn't shown he has the skills to be a full time starter - on the plus side he did better in pass protect as the season went on but running plays were terrible.

[Fabini is actually a tackle that played Guard for us last season. Kendall was a stop gap solution and has arthritic knees. This season is probably his last. Skins need new talent.

C: Casey Rabach, Mike Pucillo: Casey is a solid starter, Pucillo can play when needed. No immediate need here.

[Pucillo has some back issue that may force him to leave the game. If Rabach is injured, we are screwed. Dire need for new talent. Preferably a C/G so we can fill the Guard need above.

I would like that as well but none seem likely to be there when the Skins pick

Griffin is solid when healthy but rarely healthy.

Godfrey may leave to Jacksonville. Age and lack of depth are serious issues but LB is weak in this draft.

I hadnt heard that... but even still, backup centers arent all that hard to find. I think Rabach still has several good years left as a starter, so we just need a decent backup if Pucillo cant play for some reason.
