Feely gives Giants the boot

Thursday, March 08, 2007

BY MIKE GARAFOLO

Star-Ledger Staff

Finally, a free-agent signing involving the Giants. Only it's not a player they added. It's one they lost.

According to someone familiar with Jay Feely's plans, the veteran kicker has agreed to a three-year contract with the Miami Dolphins. Financial terms were not available.

The person, who requested anonymity because the deal is not official, said the 30-year-old Feely was impressed with the Dolphins' offer yesterday, but gave the Giants a chance to match, as they appeared ready to up their proposal. The Giants didn't, so Feely moved on. He will get a chance to exact revenge on Oct. 28 when his new team faces the Giants in London.

In two seasons in East Rutherford, Feely made 58 of 69 field-goal attempts and had 24 touchbacks. But the most memorable part of his stint with the team was a day he would like to forget -- Nov. 27, 2005 when he missed field goals of 40, 45 and 54 yards in an overtime loss in Seattle.

LOL! That was one of the funniest displays of failure I ever saw that year. I loved that game.
