FOX Ranking our Dline 21???

"The Redskins added Andre Carter from the 49ers to shore up a run defense that ranked 13th at 105.4 yards per game but allowed 15 scores. He's slotted into the left defensive end position opposite veteran Phillip Daniels (eight sacks in 2005). Washington added Carter with an eye on sealing the edge, but also for upping the pressure against division rivals Eli Manning, Drew Bledsoe and Donovan McNabb. The Redskins ranked 20th in the NFL last year with 35 sacks."

It seems as if the only thing they are concerned about are sacks. D-lines to much more than just sack the quarterback, and I just feel as if we should be ranked within the top 15 of the league. Carter is going to do very well, and Griffin and Daniels are good players.

i realyl dont disagree.. this d-line job to create pressure and get Ints, not neccessarily sacks. i think the addition of carter will help, but i hope our run defense does not falter because of him.. i wonderign is andre carter a good run stopper?

Everyone should just stop reading after this quote.

I love how they rank the Eagles at 10 giving them credit for injuries but fail to note that in all 6 of our losses either Cornelius Griffin or Joe Salave'a was out for most or all of the game. It's no coincidence that when both were healthy we were 7-0. It's also why we spent two picks in the draft on DTs in case either goes down again.

If carter is as good as they say he is, well the defense will be ranked somewhere in the top five this year. They will not be able to concentrate on griffin and daniels with Carter on the outside. Which only allows Williams to be more creative with the pressure.

Agreed. It becomes more and more evident over time that we, the hardcore fans, know significantly more than most of these sports writers that come across as knowledgable. Basic knowledge about the type of player Carter is should tell anyone who follows the NFL that that statement is wrong.

It should also be noted that these are fantasy rankings, not real life rankings. The top two run defenses in the league last year, San Diego and Denver, are ranked 26th and 29th in this guys rankings. 'Nuff said.

"The Carolina Panthers remained among the top defenses in 2005 with great pressure off the edges from Julius Peppers and Mike Rucker. The duo combined for 18 sacks and 94 tackles to boost the Panthers to fifth in overall defense. Carolina received great play from Maake Kemoeatu on the interior. He stepped up in the absence of Kris Jenkins, who played in only one game last season. Kemoeatu and Jenkins will team to protect the middle of the line and keep Carolina's lofty ranking in run defense (fourth at 91.6 yards)."

Carolina received great play from a player who played for the Ravens last year?

I wonder how Carter will do on the left side? When he was a DE in SF he was a RDE. I think they'll still use Wynn in running situations and use Carter as more or less a pass rush specialist. I don't think his back will allow him to be an every down DE and have 350 pounders leaning on him every play.

Yeah, this article is full of errors. He also still got Big Daddy with the Lions.

I agree with your assessment on Carter. I think Wynn will be in there on first downs and short yardage.

Without a doubt we will have the #1 Defense this year. We had excellent defenses last few years, and last year it resulted into a winning streak that sailed us into the post season. Now that our players have cohesion and a sense of teammanship ( i know its not a word) we should be a furious Defense.

*edit*: I didn't realize these were fantasy rankings. Nevermind, that has nothing to do with football.

Top 15th in potential yeah... its close, I'd say our front 7 as a whole is Top 10, maybe top 5. But our line on its own has only one proven star in this system, Griff.

If salavea keeps it up and Andre does what I think he's going to do we'll be very very good.

You know what I *don't* like about that ranking? The scores in the run game. That is only relevant if those scores are from 8 yards or closer to the goal line. Why should our front four be responsible for Ryan clark being stiff armed, or Warrick Holdman folding like a chair on 5 separate occasions giving up a touchdown. Thats just silly.
