We Don't Need 'Guest Workers' (Washington Post Editorial)

Probably because most of you people have no concept of what the first portion of the amendment actually says in its proper historical context.

Well, that's a hell of an assumption. I would have given you more debating credit then to go and assume an entire side of the debate would misunderstand the document. I guess only whack job conservatives get to understand our laws.

I thought you said everyone should be equal . In the 1950s people werent equal but i can see how a you would have loved those times . Back then you wouldnt have to compete with women and minorities

As I said, it wasn't perfect. I have no problem with EQUALITY. Unfortunately that's not what we have nowadays any more than we did back then. We've just reversed the "Wheel of Fortune" if you will. We've gone from a society where minorities were treated like second or third class citizens to a society where minorites must be catered to and given extra credit simply because of their ethnic, racial or religious background.

Back in the 1950's society had rules. Morals and values still existed. Punishment instead of rehabilitation was the rule of the day. Things like that are much more what I was talking about than the racial problems of the time period.

Something you have to understand... I don't believe in the concept of DEBATE. I never have and never will. I'm not here to change your mind or the mind of any other poster here. I hope you folks aren't either because there is absolutely NO CHANCE you're going to change my mind on anything either.

It's not "whack job conservatives" who get to understand the laws. It's people with even the smallest amount of reading comprehension and a little historical context. But doing that would mean that we'd actually have to follow the documents and laws as they're written instead of intrepreting them and making them say whatever the heck we wanted; so we better not actually do that.

The 1950s: Jim Crow laws, widespread racism and de facto racial segregation, anti-miscegenation laws, women treated as second-class citizens. Yup, utopia.

I've already discussed this, but let's compare that with today.... Hiring Quotas, Same-Sex marriage, Affirmative Action, Gay Adoption, Gun Control, The total destruction of the Nuclear Family, Anti-Religious Zealotry, Widespread Socialism.

I think a pretty good case could be made that these days are no better than the 1950's for anyone who actually has a moral or value based view of the world.

But you said it yourself - that most people don't get. I guess your just an elitist.

And i know there is no changing your mind that was not/is not the intent of my posts.

The Supreme Court and every court in this land has disagreed with your view of the Constitution. So what you are claiming is obvious clearly isn't obvious.

That same document gives them the Right to be Wrong, which they are. They just seem more interested in using that Right n a large-scale basis than I am.
