#2 Running Back

Going into the 2006 season we are gonna have an abundance of good running backs. It is going to be interesting to see if Ladell Betts will be back, and if he is satisfied being a #2 back. Rock should be back and should make the team with the way that he consistently makes plays for teams. Nemo Broughton will have a year under his belt and supposedly this guy is full of power. Who is going to be our #2 back???:helmet::helmet::helmet:

I don't know. The problem I see is when Portis goes out of a game and Betts comes in, defenses are quickly able to diagnose the two or three plays he runs inside and then the team becomes one-dimensional.

Either Betts is being ill-used and the staff need to expand the net of plays he is asked to run both on the ground but also through the air (where Betts is a solid receiver) or the Redskins have to find themselves a change of pace back for Portis who can come in and show some quicker production in big games.

Maybe Cartwright hasn't been given the full chance to show what he can do after his production in the Rams' game? :)

The Redskins do need a bigger back for short yardage and after heaping praise on his ability and work ethic, the staff needs to bring Broughton out from under the veil :)

I do think that Rock was really productive and needed to be used more. I like Ladell, but we need to get Nemo in the game to pound it when we need short yardage gains.

I really thought that they should've used Rock when he was hot, he really had the momentum, but they put in Ladell right after he came back from his injury.

I remember the 1991 team with Byner as the lead back, Ervins as the explosive scat back, and Riggs as the goal line and short yardage pounder.

It is no insult on Portis to think we need that hammer back. Byner made the pro bowl in 1990 and 1991 for the Skins and Gibbs still kept Riggs on the roster as a specialist despite his high salary and his fall on the depth chart from starting in 1989.

Riggs also suffered with injuries, some turf toe, or was that Rogers? But I thought that Riggs at the end was really banged up.

But, you are right we need to have different dimensions in the backfield. I think Rock gives us something different the way he hits the holes.

Maybe Broughton will step up to that hammer role.
