Spurrier said that it would not affect his decision on whether Matthews or Wuerffel would be the week one starter but Matthews helped his own cause with a strong performance. Huddle Up: Spurrier had indicated that after the Tampa Bay game he might select the week one starter but shelved the idea with Wuerffel unable to play. Wureffel has looked better in camp and was considered as the front runner but the strong showing by Matthews against the Buccaneers defense merely continues the saga. "Mathews helped his cause" being diplomatic speak) that he's all but decided but he wants Wuerfel to play okay on the field once more to prove his call.
