Zguy28
Only one Medal of Honor given in Iraq, Afghan warsBy Tom Vanden Brook, USA TODAY Full story here: http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2005-12-27-valor_x.htm American troops have been fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan for more than four years, but just one soldier from those wars has received the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military honor for bravery... Sgt. 1st Class Paul Smith was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for helping to save the lives of 100 U.S. troops. U.S. Army via AP, 2003 ******************** Thought this was an interesting story. Although it is funny how when Yahoo put it up on my home page it reads: "Only one Medal given in Iraq, Afghan wars." It just says Medals not medal of honor. They made it look like the Army and Navy were getting chincy in the medal dept. A shot at our military from the media perhaps? You be the judge. Johnny Punani2
and it should be this way. If you have liberal guidelines reguarding awarding of a medal and it will cheapen the meaning of that medal. I was shocked and sad to see people getting purple hearts for very minor injuries like cuting their foot on broken glass in the Saudi bombings back in the mid 90's. Prosperity
Maybe it was meant as a jab, but I think it is a sign of a professional military.
twa
It should remain a rare honor, plus the type of warfare in Iraq did not lend itself to many pitched battles thankfully.
