redman100
I heard a lot of talk about the Cover 2 defense. Essentially what you have are two safeties floating and taking care of the deep routes. This is what they are using to keep Moss double covered. However, I have seen several teams beat the cover 2 deep. This is how they do it. You send your number one and two receiver to the long side of the field (we'll say the right side) One of them runs a post and the other a streak. Then on the short side, you have an H-back running a slant pattern across the middle, beyond the linebackers. This forces the linebackers to cover the H- back. The corners are covering off the line of scrimmage. As Moss and Jacobs approach the safeties, they safeties have to make a choice on who to cover. If each of them take a receiver, this leaves the H-back in single coverage with the linebacker. A situation the H-back will likely win. If the safety picks up the H-back that leaves either Moss or Jacobs in singel coverage, exactly what we want. What do you guys think?
Jizmaglobin
it makes sense but if it were only that simple.what you did say though is theoretically solid in theory.add in the running back dropping into the flat when the blocking fails and we've got a 2 minute scheme just waitin to go. Davethegolfguy
You beat cover 2 with tight end seem patterns. Or RB delays in the middle.

Dead Money
A staple in cover two is to have the MLB cover the middle of the field .
scruffylookin
How to beat the Cover 2? Ask Norv, he did it this past Sunday.
slik
yeah you beat a cover 2 by sending the two wide outs deep and i usually would say to use the TE on an in slant. either way the idea is to fake deep and drop it in underneath.
Loyal2Washington
Cover 2 is a D that really supports the DB's so WR's are often limited in their production. The LB's protect the middle of the field in essence leaving only underneath routes. Now their are two kinds of cover 2 D's, there's the Tampa D from the mid 90's to 03 and the Colts cover 2, only difference the caliber of player. To beat the cover 2 you have to establish the run, suck the LB's into the line of scrimmage and exploit the middle of the field, using 15-20 yard passes. If the O-line cannot stop the pass rush of the front four and do not establish the run, then you are going to be in for a long day. Likewise if you can control the line of scrimmage and run the ball then the middle of the field is often wide open, as LB's are often over matched in their coverage assignments, be it with a TE/H-back, RB, or third or fourth WR. If you have Tampa's D from a few years back the cover 2 can be devastating, but if you have a D with lesser talent then the cover 2 can be exploited very easily, as the Colts are often forced to out score their opponents, now that they have improved on D their 10-0 with the D winning the first 5 games for them. All in all it's like any defense, it is dependant upon the players to make plays. :dallasuck :eaglesuck :gaintsuck
