Romo sits to pee all but officially beaten Henson as Cowboys' No. 2 QB

IRVING, Texas -- Bill Parcells refuses to formally set the depth chart at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.

But he sure is making it easy for everyone to figure out who is Drew Bledsoe's main backup.

In case seeing Tony Romo sits to pee play the final 11/2 quarters of the last exhibition game while Drew Henson stood on the sideline wasn't enough evidence, consider some of the things Parcells said Tuesday:

"One guy is in one place, the other guy is in another place."

"Obviously, Romo sits to pee has more experience now."

That last statement isn't exactly true. Henson played quarterback in two games as a rookie last season, starting once. He threw 18 passes, one for a touchdown. Romo sits to pee hasn't taken a snap in his two seasons with the club. And, despite the imbalance in playing time this preseason, Romo sits to pee has thrown only one more pass than Henson.

Yet Romo sits to pee has been working behind Bledsoe in the practice rotation the last few weeks.

"He's more up on the system," Parcells said. "He's more functional."

So Romo sits to pee, who lounged on a sofa reading a "Star Wars" novel during the open locker room period Tuesday, probably has only a few days left until he's anointed as the darling of all darlings in pro sports: backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.

Fans of America's Team will be clamoring for him the first time Bledsoe throws an interception or gets sacked because he held onto the ball too long. Some fans aren't even waiting. Callers to radio talk shows and some bloggers already have noted that Romo sits to pee has a better completion percentage and quarterback rating than Bledsoe this preseason.

It's silly, because Bledsoe will start unless seriously injured. In fact, a more interesting debate would be whether Parcells is ready to entrust the club to Romo sits to pee should Bledsoe go down for an extended period -- or would the coach try signing a veteran, such as last year's starter Vinny Testaverde.

So what about Henson?

He's expected to play the preseason finale Thursday night against Jacksonville and probably will get at least a quarter since Bledsoe likely won't last too long. While Parcells said he "wouldn't consider it make-or-break" for Henson, Romo sits to pee's track record the past two years shows Thursday could be the last time Henson throws a pass in 2005.

"It's a long season, many things can happen," Henson said Tuesday. "You just have to prepare yourself to play and have the mind-set that you will."

Henson has done plenty of waiting. He left Michigan after his junior year and spent several seasons playing baseball with the New York Yankees. When an inability to hit the curveball convinced him to give football another try, the Cowboys won a bidding war for him and owner Jerry Jones envisioned him joining the lineage of Don Meredith, Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman.

Now he could be in jeopardy of going on the list of recent flameouts Quincy Carter and Chad Hutchinson.

"I think he's a young, developing player," Parcells said of Henson. "That's where he is right now. Not ready."

Parcells mentioned last week that Henson is eligible to be placed on the practice squad. However, he'd have to clear waivers first. Dallas probably would do that only if there was a veteran Parcells wanted on the 53-man roster.

"I'm just trying to improve," said Henson, who spent the spring and early summer restructuring his throwing motion, making it more like a quarterback and less like a third baseman. "Everyone has goals. You just have to keep the big picture in mind when you go through this."

Funny, no mention of the Girls giving anything up for Henson. Was it a 2nd? "America's Team" can do no wrong.

And would everyone stop calling them that. That's the most undeserving label now, it's like calling Cardinals fans the "Most Loyal Fans in the NFL". They should've dropped that name after the team fell apart in the late '90s.
