Novak is a rookie from Maryland, where he became the ACC's career leading scorer and fifth-best in Division I-A history. He produced 393 points, making 80 of 107 field-goal attempts and 153 of 159 extra-point tries. He made all three field goals he attempted for the Bears this preseason. The Bears elected to keep veteran Doug Brien. In Dallas, Novak will challenge Jose Cortez for the job Billy Cundiff held the last three seasons. After Cundiff was released last week, the Cowboys traded for Seth Marler of Jacksonville, but he failed a physical, voiding the deal.
