Let's hope they have the same problems with kickers that we had back in 2000:

The Friday trade in which the Cowboys acquired kicker Seth Marler from the Jaguars in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft choice in 2006 was nullified Saturday when the three-year veteran failed a physical exam.

That means Marler returns to the Jaguars and the Cowboys are left with journeyman Jose Cortez as the lone kicker on the roster.

The deal for Marler came in the wake of the Cowboys' decision to place incumbent kicker Billy Cundiff on the waived/injured list earlier this week after he suffered a quadriceps injury last Saturday in practice.

Cundiff cleared waivers on Thursday, and Dallas officials completed an injury settlement with the three-year veteran, so they didn't have to carry him on injured reserve for the entire season. Dallas remains interested in re-signing Cundiff when he is healthy again but, because of league rules governing injury settlements, cannot do so until 10 weeks into the season.

The team did not announce the reason for failing Marler on the physical exam.

Marler, 24, missed the entire 2004 season with a quadriceps injury. In 2003, the former Tulane star, who originally signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent, connected on 20 of 33 field goal tries and all 30 extra point attempts, for 90 points. Before the injury last summer, Marler had all but lost his job to Josh Scoee, who remains as the Jaguars top kicker.

I'd have to say both. Not only did they try to trade a draft pick for a nobody kicker, but they tried to trade for a guy who can't play.

The desperation to get a second kicker on the roster doesn't make sense. There will be many better kickers available after the cut down days who will require no draft pick compensation. It's not like a kicker needs to get into camp and learn the playbook or get used to playing next to his new teammates. The move didn't make sense.

Its a moot point now.

That it is. But your question was which were we laughing at. And the answer to that would be both. We laughed at the move first, and now we're laughing again.

That's whats so cool about it

Two good laughs for the price of one

Laugh all you want.

Cortez will be fine.

I was never fully comfortable with Cundiff, so change is good at this point.

He's been fine thus far.

And if we need to bring in someone else, so be it.

I'll be a happy camper if this ends up being the only laughable thing about Dallas this season.
