Millers statement from the above mock scenario is confusing to me.
"Maye might have more upside, but Daniels is ready to excel right now."
Is he saying that Drake Maye will most likely be better than Daniels in the long run? That Daniels has a lower Ceiling but will get us to 9-8 faster? Strange final sentence....almost like a cop-out.
If that’s the opinion of the front office it would be malpractice to take Daniels. That’s a Rivera type move…

I don't see how that helps his case. His team could dominate a top ten team with a decoy at QB.
They went 2 full quarters with only a FG to show for it before finally salting it away late. Defensively dominant but the offense was stagnant for the most part once he got hurt.

I just come back to that Penn State game. That was supposed to be the game of the year. He threw 8 passes and ran the ball a handful of times. It was like a Nebraska win from 1968 or something.
He was 7 out of 8 to start the game and then was hurt but stayed in the game as basically a decoy. They didn’t stop throwing due to ineffectiveness. Rumor was he really wasn’t healthy after that until the playoff.

It’s never that simple once they actually spend time with these guys. They will have a 100% clear favorite that they’ll want to bet their jobs on. They will not be comfortable leaving it up to chance just because some fans and media have guys in the same “tier”. They’re betting their careers on it. It’s much more granular than just a grade.Exactly why I would be shocked if they trade out of the 2 spot. There’s going to be a clear pecking order going into draft and 2-4 are now close enough there’s no way you can move down more than 1 spot and feel comfortable you’ll get your guy even if it turns out to be JJ, don’t get cute. Just make the pick start planning your next move.

Although I have a preference for Maye, I see them taking Daniels. Job preservation is something FOs and coaches think about and I believe, of the two, Daniels is the safer pick from a play standpoint (I do believe Maye has the higher ceiling).
If JD busts because of injury but was performing while on the field, the FO would get more leeway and the ability to take a second QB.
If you take a (IMO) sub 200 lb running quarterback and are surprised when he doesn’t hold up to a 17 game schedule that alone would prohibit me from ever giving you another bite at that apple but maybe Josh would be more forgiving than I would be….availability is a pretty significant part of the equation for any player, especially a high first rounder.

I don’t see the correlation with Caleb.
I don’t know him personally. And there are red flags to his… demeanor? Many, actually. But that doesn’t necessarily qualify him as Griffin.
Stylistically he’s nothing like Griffin.
Now, I am NOT advocating for Caleb. Just that I’m not sure how Griffin and Caleb correlate. Especially considering the cost of Griffin was hefty where, I think Caleb, would be nothing. I don’t THINK we move up for him, so if we drafted him he’d be the pick at 2 which cost us nothing but heartache, pain, sadness and tears.
Stylistically Daniels is much closer to RG3 than Williams. Give me Maye

I’m the outlier here, but Anthony Weaver has really grown on me, and gives off incredible organizational and leader or men vibes. From the clips I’ve seen of him, he really grasps the cohesion needed from the top down to make a franchise successful, having learned it from the inside of the franchise that has had staying power like few others (Baltimore).
I like the idea of giving him his shot, and pairing him with an innovative young OC candidate along the lines of Klint Kubiak, and allowing this whole young group to grow together. Super high risk, but potentially extremely high reward. The exact opposite of the try retread Quinn, and see if he’s somehow evolved, approach.
I love Weavers charisma and leadership vibes. But I’m having a hard time getting over how bad the Texans were his one year as DC. I’m hoping there were some extenuating circumstances, injury bug, whatever to help explain that, then I’d be 100% on board.

Yeah unless offered the HC here… who knows maybe they have… honestly being the DC there in Bmore might not be a bad fall back plan if not our HC opening
Would it surprise anyone if Weaver just decided to withdraw and take the DC job. He should have offers next year unless he falls flat on his face. Plus we don’t seem to have a clue what we want to do, how long is he going to wait….

Multiple insiders types have hyped Dan Quinn as one of the hottest candidates. The fan base doesn't accept that. But it’s true. So if we are going with the "league" we should be more than jazzed if it’s Quinn.
He’s so hot he got passed over by 4 teams in the span of a week including for Canales and Callahan. But don’t worry, he’s our number 1 choice. 🙄

What can we do? The system sucks. Unless your first choice was Raheem Morris, we’re right where we intended and need to be.
Morris would be a hell of a lot better than Quinn to be honest.

No rush here guys. Keep thinking it over while the rest of the league is clearing out the staffing cabinets. Cant wait to see what offensive whiz we’re going to land at this stage in the game. 🙄

A lot of people are ****ting on Dan Quinn, but I’m not sure he wouldn’t be the best choice.
I’m not sure of much, but in regards to Dan Quinn being a subpar option, I’d bet the house on that one…..even worse is the OC is likely to be a b or c level choice now as teams who didn’t screw around waiting for Ben are already jumping on the top options.

Quinn has been a head coach and it didn't work out. What makes them think it's going to work out here? Definitely don't want him. I want an up and coming coordinator like MacDonald
At least with Raheem you could argue he was dealt a crap hand with Freeman and could see the arguement for him being better this time around. Quinn was handed a top 10 qb and top 3 receiver for his entire tenure and still managed to hover around .500.

Completely disagree. This is on Ben. Not Washington.
MacDonald is still out there. If you go with Quinn instead then that’s absolutely on Washington. I feel bad for the poor b@stards in charge of selling season tickets. The blowback they’re going to get might be the worst we’ve seen since the Fassel debacle.
2 minutes ago, RVAskins said:Quinn is a major step up from RR so I'm fine with that.
Is he? Ron had a better record leaving Carolina than Quinn did in Atlanta. He’s a .450 coach without Shanahan running his offense.

I completely respect his decision. He has to do what's right for him.
At the same time, screw you Johnson for the antics.
It’s less the decision than the timing. F him for that.

This a$$hat couldn’t have let teams know this earlier. Now Seattle has MacDonald in an interview and we’re left holding the bag. What are the chances they let him leave unsigned. 🤬

I know it shouldn’t come into play, but I find it hard to believe this team would go with Dan Quinn over Mike McDonald if Ben does go to Seattle. How exactly do you pitch that this fanbase whose worked themselves into a frenzy over Ben Johnson and then go with a retread with a career record of 5 games under .500. 🤮

I can’t vouch for what Chad says. But he’s toed the line for Jason Wrong since day 1. I wouldn’t expect anything less from him than to carry his water here, despite it being obvious how many fans despise the name. I will say, as an out of town we, after going to the Nats game yeaterday and the Caps today, it’s absolutely mind blowing how piss poor this organization has been and still is run in comparison. The name change/branding is just the cherry on top of this crap sundae.
