We have a lot of competition that's for sure.  The Broncos have the ammo this year as far as picks are concerned.  We match up with them as far as cap space is concerned though.

The Broncos have a lot more to offer.

They have picks, they have cap space, they have two great WRs who are young, 6'4, and both locked up long term, they can trade someone like Jerry Jeudy and not suffer at all, and they have an RB who is predicted to be top 5 next season (and had 900 yards this season) plus they have a very very good TE in Fant

To tack on to this, if KOC was the OC in 2020 and got the significant input that Turner did.... Would KOC actually want to deal with Haskins? KOC got to deal with Haskins in person. I can't think of a single person who did and came away saying anything but negative opinions.

I mean, i don't know about 2020 but KOC was a pretty vocal Dwayne supporter at the end od 2019 and Dwayne was all over social media begging for them to keep KOC as offensive coordinator.

Here KOC said regardless of where he ended up he would keep in touch with Haskins

  3. Yes. Not that I hate Turner but when KOC took over playcalling not only was the QB playing better but we were getting good production out of WRs OTHER than Terry McLaurin.

I think we lost a lot in terms of consistency and comraderie...the team was starting to build what looked like a solid foundation with Harmon, Sims, McLaurin.

Now Haskins issues and not wanting to work were his own doing but he played his best ball when KOC was calling plays. People don't understand the importance of continuity and putting aside the QB position Turner has had real trouble getting other receivers involved in the passing game (and doesn't even get the ball to McLaurin as consistently as he should)

If this team wants Willis, it may have to trade up to #4 as Carolina is a candidate to take him at #6 and the Giants are not likely to send #5 to us without a king's ransom

    I don't see Carolina taking anyone but Pickett if they take a QB. Rhule and Pickett have a long relationship;

Would be surprised if this regime were to leak any information about what college QB they like. I almost lean Willis because there’s been no reports about him being liked/loved by the FO.

I don't think anyone knows anything for sure before the combine and pro days. Even John Keim said he hasn't heard much post Senior Bowl. Plus Ron will be able to be there for pro days and combine which will likely affect a lot.

SIP, as the other guy in here that seems to favor Corral, do you also feel like he’s a terrible interview? Listening to him speak at a lot of those elite QB camps was almost painful. He did not come off as smart.

I think he's a fine interview and everyone says he comes off super likable and charismatic when talking to him

    Oooooo

Anybody see the story about Murray pulling himself from the playoff game.

    https://www.yahoo.com/sports/kyler-murray-pulled-himself-playoff-215826189.html

Yeah sorry I am not interested in him. I know he is young but he has issues going back to hia college days. The last thing this team needs is a QB that isn't or can't be a leader or points fingers when things go wrong. How a QB handles adversity is super important, especially to a franchise like this one.

    3.  Howell:  Really consistent as far as his accuracy.  He has a strong arm, i think Corral's is a hair stronger but Howell throws better IMO off his back foot.  Showcased good mobility at the combine. Tough. Baller.    Worried about pocket presence, peripheral vision.   There is nothing he does that blows me away but there is a lot he does that I like.  I tend to favor QBs with more personality than Howell -- I prefer extroverts at that spot (more of a Joey T guy on that front than Rypien) but its not a deal breaker -- see Justin Herbert for example.

This is one of my issues with Howell. Herbert was able to silence critics about his quiet demeanor and leadership because he had one of the greatest rookie seasons ever for a QB. I do not expect that from Howell.

And for where this team is right now, I think the fanbase and the team really needs a QB that the fans can embrace and really want to rally around (look at how everyone has rallied around Burrow because he's such a likeable charismatic guy). I also think that if fans like a guy they are a lot more willing to be patient with him.

    Better not be.

If he starts a single game next year for any reason other than injury to another QB then I will throw up. Heinecke is a decent back up but he can not start next season for any reason.

I don’t doubt your stats but I just watched him vs TENN 2021 and I counted 12 passes at or behind the line of scrimmage and 7 passes between 3-7 yards. Maybe that game is an anomaly but he had 19 passes travel between -2 & 7 yards in the air.

Also, his ball placement wasn’t very good either. I will say his WRs made at least 3 (maybe 4) horrific drops that would have added a lot of yardage. I wasn’t very impressed but it is the only game I’ve watched so I wouldn’t rule him out on such a small sample size.

This was the same complaint made about both Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert. Colleges do not run pro style offenses a lot of the time but it doesn't mean the QB can't run one.

Also I think, despite two games where he threw 5 INTs, Corral's 2020 tape is better because he was healthy. In 2021 he played the majority of the season hurt and with half his starters out

There are so many videos of Matt Corral at passing camps. The accuracy isn’t always astounding, but boy can he whip it.

The other thing that sticks out to me is - people talk so much about him playing in an RPO at Ole Miss but he played from under center not only in high school but when he was in training after he committed to USC so it's not like he has never done it. When he committed to USC and was training for the season, all his reps and things were drop backs so I think he will be fine there but will likely need some time to speed up his read/processing

Any news on if we might even go after Huntley? Will the Raven be willing to part from him? Can he work in our offense is the bigger question though..

I find it interesting that people want Huntley but are opposed to Corral because of his size? They are the exact same size and weight. Huntley is 6'1, 205 and Matt Corral is either 6'1 or 6'2 and 205.

  13. 14 minutes ago, Anselmheifer said:

He’s also hurt right? The Mexicans are what dropped Derwin James way past 11.

I’d be thrilled with Hamilton, Lloyd, or Stingley at 11 and a move back up into the 1st for Matt Corral. Especially Hamilton and Corral though. That would probably mean no MLB in the 2nd though.

If we somehow pulled that off and got a WR in the 3rd that would be AMAZING

  14. I feel like we need to look at this crop of QBs differently and think about best fit for this team and where the team is right now.

Kenny Pickett is the most pro ready because of the system he played in but his ceiling seems lower. Really there is no clear cut QB1 like Trevor Lawrence or Joe Burrow, everyone has pros and cons and their play on the field hasn't really seperated them too much - so what about off the field? What sets them apart?

The new rebrand is going to take some getting used to - new name, new uniforms, etc and what really would help is a young, magnetic personality that fans can really rally around. I don't think Sam Howell is that guy. Apparently he is very shy, soft spoken, didn't impress much in Senior Bowl interviews. For a rebrand you want a guy that fans will be passionate about, not meh on (and frankly fans are more forgiving and patient with rookie mistakes if they really like the rookie as a person) - someone who will stand on the sidelines and get people fired up. I haven't see much of that from Carson Strong either honestly.

The guy who makes the most sense to me is Matt Corral. He already has three things in common with Rivera which would instantly bond them - he's a Latino guy from a military family raised in California just like Ron. That might not seem important but that is such an easy starting point for a coach and QB to start connecting and building trust. Corral's tough. He apparently has a really magnetic personality where his teammates not only love him but would run through a wall for him. I saw countless games where he was leading the Ole Miss chant or standing on the bench to get the fans fired up.

Todd McShay recently compared him to Joe Theismann. He does run an RPO but has everything Ron said he wanted - mobility, quick twitch, strong arm and his work ethic is insane. He was holding QB meetings and training everyday at 5 am. 3 hours before their regular practices even started:

    https://www.si.com/college/olemiss/football/5-a-m-meetings-matt-corral-ole-miss-quarterbacks-taking-work-ethic-to-the-next-level

I don't know I just think he is the perfect fit for this team right now. He would fit really well with Scott Turner's offense because he has accuracy at the intermediate level and is so elusive along with the arm talent to make some Mahomes like throws from different angles and honestly elite ability to manipulate his body.

That's what I'm afraid of as well, but from what I'm hearing Wilson is a LOT more serious about taking care of himself and staying in tip top shape. McNabb was never really a workout warrior kinda guy and got a bit chubby and was known for liking his fair share of beers. I don't think Wilson will physically drop off the way McNugget did.

I'd take Heinicke over Jones. Heinicke is mediocre but Jones is straight up awful. We don't know how bad he really is because for the most part he's always lit us up but he is straight garbage.

Hurts its debatable. He's younger and has more upside but his actual passing ability is trash tier.

Nobody is going to take a short, 29 year old, undersized journeyman QB that has never won a starting QB role in this league despite being with 4 different NFL teams over Daniel Jones (who is only 24 years old, 6'5 only been in the league 2 seasons and has a stronger arm). Come on.....

Exactly. Jalen Hurts isn’t going to move the needle. He’s just another QB someone will be looking to upgrade.

We don't know how Seattle feels about Hurts but I am sure anyone would like him better than Heinecke which is all we have to offer

They also have higher picks than we do
