McDouble! Can't wait to see them drive-thru a defense in the fall!

That is clever, funny, and quite frankly a nickname that just might stick if both of them blow up this year.

It's too bad Cheeseman got cut though.

If he was still here we could go for the...wait for it...

Re: Hartman–it was posted in the UDFA thread that he spent the entire pre-draft process with Jayden and that they likely "endorsed" each other, or something to that effect. I believe the phrase "study buddy" was used, so I think he's specifically here to help Jayden and learn alongside him. Screenshot_20240514-124806.thumb.png.b772ebad3da6a98b5b75c40dea20c13d.png

Jayden best be careful messing around with "love 'em and leave 'em" Hartman.

He's the kind of dude you don't bring home to meet your girlfriend.

Unless you don't mind when she suddenly sends you to the grocery store to get a bag of ice and some Cheetos, then you get back and there's a note on the dining room table saying, "Sam and I decided to go out and  get better acquainted. No need to wait up."

So this dude was that good with bad feet? That's awesome. He is going to be so ****ing good in the future.

Now that, dear friends, is the true power of positive rhinking!

You are my kinda guy KB13!

I was reading all these worse and "worserer" injury recovery time posts, and feeling down and "downerer" after each one.

Then your post popped up, and it was like mainlining Colt 45 directly past the blood brain barrier and right into my neocortex-- spirits completely lifted! 👍

  4. First, a quick Sunday morning ESPN coffee break analysis of the rookie mini-camps  of four of the first five qbs, taken off the board, excluding only Drake Maye.

(NOTE: There's a separate video of Maye's very, very, interesting rookie mini-camp experience, posted below this one, that I highly recommend.

In fact, if you only have enough time to watch one of the two, the Drake Maye mini-camp video is definitely  worth watching most.)

Now on to Drake Maye's fascinating minicamp experience.

In a very illuminating video of the Patriots rookie mini-camp they were amazed with the howitzer-like arm and surprising accuracy of late round qb Milton who has literally become the talk of camp, while  third overall pick, Drake Maye, clearly struggled and was described as a bit "robotic", somewhat "inaccurate", and in "need of a lot of work" especially with his feet, in his professional debut...

As we all know, early impressions good or bad in shorts and tee shirts with no pads just ain't football and mean next to nothing in the long run.

However, there's something comforting, all the same, when your newly acquired rookie qb has a promising start to his career, while the quarterback selected one pick after him is struggling mightily.

Jason Wright is in charge of this (Darrell Green) ceremony, I would imagine he would do it during the home game against the Panthers, however. 🙄

Wright has already put in an order for a custom 30 foot neon sign to be posted in the stadium saying:

"THANK YOU DARRELL GREENE FROM ALL OF US"

The first time your mind is blown and you were drunk anyway.

So after awhile you start to think--Did I really see what I thought I saw? Cuz that just ain't humanly possible.

So a few months later you go again-- just for scientific purposes. A case study. See if it was mass hypnosis or a hallucination...

    Well it wasn't. lol

    As for the third time...

"He's a stud," third-round receiver Luke McCaffrey said. "I know he's one heck of a quarterback and a lot of fun to play with from a personality standpoint. I've had a blast in these 24 hours with him. ... He's just fun to be around; he's good energy."

Added second-round tight end Ben Sinnott: "He has the 'it' factor."

Washington selected Daniels with the second pick in last month's draft, making him the franchise's latest hope at quarterback. The team started eight different passers in the last four years and nobody has started for more than three consecutive seasons since Mark Rypien from 1989 to '93. Since that time, Washington has drafted five other quarterbacks in the first round, and none became the long-term answer.

Daniels' presence led to more interest than usual in the Commanders' first rookie workout as approximately 55 media members attended -- at least 20 more than usual, according to a team spokesman. He smiled often and during breaks could be seen laughing with coaches or teammates. He lofted accurate deep passes down the middle of the field against no defenders and was accurate during a 7-on-7 drill, with one off-target pass that resulted in a one-handed grab by undrafted free agent Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint.

Daniels said Friday was just about "day one install" of the playbook. But he also said he soaked in seeing his helmet in the locker and putting on his yellow No. 5 practice jersey.

"Man, it was awesome," he said. He added that scenes like this brought out "that 9-year-old kid in me, just realizing that his dreams came true, and now I'm here but I've still got a long way to go."

Sinnott said he worked out with Daniels at times in the offseason -- as well as undrafted free agent quarterback Sam Hartman. He said he saw Daniels' accuracy on film and then realized it in person. He saw him, as others did, create plays with his legs as well.

"He's a super talented kid, a great dude I really like to be around and hopefully grow with," Sinnott said. "There are just guys who players naturally get attracted to and revolve around and he's got that personality where you want to work with him and want to watch film with him and you want to be out here working with him."

Daniels said this weekend is also about developing his leadership in the NFL, before he starts working with the veterans at OTA practices.

"Just being myself, being a hard worker," he said. "Don't try to be somebody I'm not. People see who's authentic and who's not. Try to make connections, talk to people. Obviously I'm 23, it's a lot of different age ranges in this locker room, so try to relate as much as possible, show them I'm all about the team, I'm all about hard work."

And, for now, it's about learning the playbook and then earning the starting job.

"Just going through the lumps of being a rookie and trying to learn how to be a pro," Daniels said. "I don't have a definitive answer for you what I needed to work on. I'm just trying to learn as much as possible."

    Wow, what a friggin debut!

    Is this really happening?

Have we possibly stumbled on the holiest grail of grails-- a charismatic qb capable of leading us to the Lombardi promised land?

    Am I dreaming?

If I am, I'm gonna stay asleep as long as I possibly can.

I spent some time in Escondido, California.

Weekends were "wasted" across the border at a bar called Adelita's that was famous for a lot of things-- none of which had much to do with drinking.

On a few occasions the more adventurous of us, including sailors on leave from the naval base in San Diego, would  be invited to go on an excursion to even more "interesting" and unique venues.

I'm very familiar with the original donkey show.

It's not healed..not allowing his bone to completely heal before doing anything is very stupid. There's no doc who would sign off on him for full duty without an MRI which would have revealed incomplete fussion. Seems as though he felt better and likely did whatever he wanted instead of the latter and now there's a price to pay. You cannot train bone growth. They can stimulate it, but those don't work on everyone and the amount of increased growth isn't much.

6-9 MONTHS for that to fully heal...he had surgery in January...he participted in a Pro Day at the end of April.  HUGE mistake!

Everything you said, as always, when it comes to the medical field, injuries, etc is true and accurate.

Uhm, I just felt I needed to mention that my complete post was just a joke. Even the part about Keim saying the surgery went well was just part of the setup.

    Yee haw!

Me thinks this Quinn guy might just be on to something.

Part of me is so used to things falling bad in the worst way when it comes to this team that I want to hold on to my skepticism to protect myself but the bigger part of me is whispering...  "release the birds... go ahead just let 'em fly watch 'em soar to the heavens and relish every damn moment of it..."

    Nothing to worry about.

Keim just reported that the doctor said the procedure went smoothly, and all indications are that Newton should be ready for the start of the season, or shortly thereafter.

In fact, Newton was feeling so spry and energetic after the surgery that he went out on the town last night, and even decided to dance on his newly reconstructed "walking appendage"...

Listened to Luke's college coach on Galdi's podcast talk about him.  He was beyond effusive, thinks he will be a stud in the NFL.  Works hard.  He played in an NFL system.  Good athlete.  Smart.

Tge Extremeskins bylaws require that we all have to stake a training camp claim on a non-first round rookie as a potential breakout star.

I was gonna hop on the Jer'Zhan "He Plays Nasty" Newton bandwagon, but it's filled to overflowing abd they wouldn't let me on board.

So as of today I'm officially  staking my claim, for this year's surprise breakout rookie star of training camp, on young Lucas Jebediah  McCaffrey.

    Don't let me down kid!

Jean-Baptiste with 90 has a strong looking number.

    Newton with 95 works too.

  15. Tress Way has come full circle.

A man's man. A consumate professional. A man with honor, dignity, and pride.

A man of rare character, who in this decision, as in all others he has made during his illustrious career, always put the interests of the team, above his own.

May Jayden one day prove himself to have been deserving of the gracious sacrifice of the man whose number he now wears proudly on his back.

Tress Way explains why giving No. 5 jersey to Jayden Daniels was 'the right thing'

    May 09, 2024 at 07:44 PM

    Zach Selby

Tress Way has been one of the Washington Commanders' most reliable players since he joined the team in 2014. He's a four-time captain, a two-time Pro Bowler and a fan favorite because of his personality and production. All of that was done while wearing No. 5.

The Commanders are starting a new era and added a pivotal piece to their future by taking LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick. He was one of the most dynamic players in college football last year, winning the Heisman Trophy for hitting career-highs in completion rate (72.2%), passing yards (3,812), passing touchdowns (40) and rushing yards (1,134).

Daniels also happens to wear No. 5.

Head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters gave Way time to think about what to do with his jersey number, but with rookies reporting for minicamp and joint OTAs around the corner, a decision needed to be made. In the end, with a little negotiating between the two players, Way decided to pass the jersey number on to Daniels, meaning that he'll be sporting a different number for the first time in over a decade.

Command Center | Exclusive Interview with Jayden Daniels

"I just feel like there's just so much excitement around this organization, hands down the most I have ever seen," Way said on the most recent episode of Command Center. "All of the excitement [is] building and building and building.

I just feel like this is...a very small part that I could do."

Way has come full circle with passing on the jersey to Daniels since the rookie joined the team.

He originally declined to give it away "right out the gate" because of the connection he had with the number. He felt wanted for the first time in his career when Washington picked him up off the waiver wire following his release from the Bears. The No. 5 felt right to Way from the moment he picked it, and since then he's been not just one of the better punters in the league but the most consistent player for Washington in the past 10 years with a touchback rate of 6.2%, an average of 46.9 yards per punt and 37.7% of his punts landing inside the 20-yard line.

I expect a big exodus now that the draft has ended and the scout hiring/firing season has begun.

With what our recent drafts have failed to produce, AP could do a clean sweep of everybody, and I wouldn't complain.
