  1. Eagles fan here. McKee had a great preseason (you won't see it if you just look at his passing stats without looking at the games) and gave the impression of being someone who could wind up being a decent backup in the league, with maybe an outside shot of starting at some point if he gets an opportunity. Ojomo played well in the preseason and made the team but was rarely active and didn't really look all that great when he did play. I think he might have stumbled his way into a sack once to get on the stat sheet. Hard to tell if he's going to be a versatile swing guy along the defensive line or if he's simply a "tweener" who isn't big or powerful enough inside and not fast or athletic enough outside.

  2. I tend to find it amusing when teams — the Falcons in this case — hire failed coaches with the hope that their previous failure was just an aberration. There are occasional successes I suppose, but for the most part they fail the next time around too.

I’d hate to be a Falcons fan right about now because you have to expect you’ll be on the same coaching search path in about three years.

We have to root for Detroit against Dallas not only for the SOS argument, but also for giving an incentive for Dallas to win against us.

That doesn’t make sense. If the Cowboys lose to Detroit and the Eagles beat the Cardinals, the Cowboys would be locked into the fifth seed and have nothing to play for in their final game. If Dallas beats the Lions, they are guaranteed to still have a chance at the division title no matter what the Eagles do against Arizona.

I hadn't realized that. Yeah, you'd have to say it worked out for the Dolphins. Maybe not so much for the Colts!

It was a tricky situation. The Colts were upset with Shula at the time. They held it against him for losing the Super Bowl to the Jets and were disappointed with failing to make the playoffs the next year. He believed they had given him permission to sign elsewhere. He agreed to go to the Dolphins. At that point, Colts ownership cried foul, and the league decreed that the Dolphins had to give them a first round pick as compensation. There was a lot of animosity at the time between the two teams.

Has trading for a coach ever worked out? The only time that might qualify would be the Bucs trading for Jon Gruden and then immediately winning the title. He did it with Dungy's players, though, and never got close to that again. It's just as likely the Bucs would have won that year with Dungy, anyway, because that team was amazing.

And yes, trading for Tomlin would be a quintessential Danny Boy move. I see nothing in the record supporting the idea that Josh would do that. He's going to want a fresher, analytics-focused hire.

The Dolphins gave a first round pick to the Colts for Don Shula. Though perhaps not a trade per se, it obviously worked out well.

Just heard a wild stat. In the past 35 years  There have been  43 QBs drafted in the top 5, only 2 have won a suprbowl for the team that drafted them.

Going to have to look this up for myself. This doesn't sound quite right.

Peyton and Aikman, so yeah. Eli was technically drafted by the Chargers. Wentz could count, though he was injured and didn’t play. A bunch of others got to the Super Bowl and lost. Goff, Ryan, Burrow, Newton. Maybe others.

Slightly off topic but kinda on because it does effect the draft via guys sitting out…

If Bama hangs on… what the heck does the committee do? Hope like hell either Michigan or Florida State lose?

    Georgia would fall to Bama.

Michigan would be 1 assuming they win.

Washington would be 2. Let’s say Florida State wins…

Does Alabama jump in? Okay… but then Texas doesn’t get in? They beat the brakes off of Bama.

I almost think if everything goes chalk besides Bama you might get Michigan, Washington, Texas, Bama.

But how do you leave Georgia out?

You would leave Georgia out based on the premise that the SEC Championship Game actually matters. If they lose this game and advance, then what was the point of playing this game in the first place?
