It's been confirmed by the team.... Burgundy over white tonight.
-
Teams are now allowed 3 pants options plus the option for whatever your designated Color Rush pants are. So technically, our gold pants could be used as the color rush pant, if the first three options are already filled. Teams are also now allowed to use the color rush at any point in the season and also mix color rush elements (i.e. Color Rush jersey with a non Color Rush pant).
With that being said, are we still going with the same throwback this season? I would imagine so, but I heard any news about it this year.

One of the things they used to say about the Cowboys is that you always wanted to put them into the blues, because they just didn't look like the cowboys. Which might have been the genesis of the white jerseys at home. Dallas also only wore the blues on the road at Washington and NYG. And NYGs only wore the blues at Dallas and Washington. It was like NFC East version of Kriss Kross
One school of thought about Gibbs preferring to wear white at home was that he was influenced by his time in Tampa and San Diego. Tampa has been known to wear white at home often (not exclusively) and during the Air Coryell years in San Diego (Gibbs was the O Coordinator), the Chargers wore white at home full-time.

Looks like they did player photo shoots today for the upcoming season. Since this is going to be the 85th anniversary this year, I expected to see a 85th anniversary patch on the jerseys. Are they not going to do that this year? There was a special patch 10 years ago on the jerseys for the 75th anniversary year.
My guess is that we will not see anniversary patches on the jerseys. The team usually reserves them for "milestone" anniversaries like 50th and 75th anniversaries. Although, we did see a 70th patch.

I don't want some stupid seahawks/oregon ducks bedazzling done with our uni's. Even as alts it is still baby steps towards an entire uniform modification.
I would not worry about this happening. The all gold uni is happening because the team was told it has to for the Color Rush program. Keep in mind the team submitted a proposal at the league meetings to allow teams to opt out of Color Rush due to "garish uniforms". Management wants no part of some Nike cluster**** redesign.

Maybe now that the team is moving to this new template, they'll go back to a burgundy collar on the white jersey?

Wait, I thought only the first two thanksgiving games (12:30 and 4:30) don't have to use color rush uniforms but the night game teams do. If that's not the case, that's a bummer, I was actually kinda looking forward to seeing ours against the Giants that night.
Seeing as how we're the away team the following Thursday night, my guess is we'll wear the white on white color rush uniform and Dallas to wear their dark shade color rush uniform.
The Thanksgiving nightcap is exempt from Color Rush as well (since it's branded a NBC/SNF game versus NFLN/TNF game). Here's a pic from last year's nightcap. Both teams have their regular duds on....
-
When I first heard we had a Thanksgiving game, I thought to myself that we would not wear the Color Rush unis this year since Color Rush unis aren't worn during Thanksgiving games. Then I realized we play Dallas the following Thursday. I bet we wear the all gold then.

A couple of tidbits I came across today.
Eagles propose allowing teams to have second helmet.

Dan Snyder wants to be allowed to opt out of color rush
Our front office clowns finally did something good!

He also tells me "not to tell anyone" and I always immediately let ES know.
It makes sense, because we don't really have many options for new throwbacks this year.
I like Dan Snyder, and those that don't, can agree that he isn't letting an 85th anniversary go without new jerseys to be worn/sold.
That uniform technically could wear three different helmets. Yellow "R", Spear and current. With the NFL rules not allowing different helmets, I think it's safe to say that the current helmet, and the current pants (both which are not sold to fans) doesn't matter at a marketing stand point.
However, a fourth throw back jersey to be sold since 2002, certainly can be a successful selling item in the Redskins owned stores.
Don't ask yourself, why would this be the 85th anniversary throwback jersey?
Ask yourself, why wouldn't it be?
If we go this route, I'm hoping we do it right with the proper gray facemasks, thinner 1/2" white stripes on the helmet, and the bigger helmet decal.
Do it right or don't do it at all.

The new shade of Burgundy will be used for our throwback jersey, for our 85th anniversary this year.
The uniform should look pretty close to this.
The problem with the throwbacks used the last few years, is the helmet can't be replaced or painted/decaled in a week.
With this uni combo, you only have to change the jersey. The pants and helmet already exist.
We have had 70th, 75th, 80th uniforms, so we knew this would happen.
Are these throwbacks something that is happening for sure, or your guess as to what may be happening? I would love it to be true.

I guess that makes sense - boring, but it makes sense.
Yeah, I got excited when I first heard the news, then people in the know (Uniwatch, etc.), explained to me that it's really just a formality.

I wonder what "marketing purposes" even means.
From what I've been told, the burgundy on the team's marketing (t-shirts, merch and the like) used a different shade of burgundy than were featured on the unis and helmet. The official burgundy has been changed to match the burgundy on the unis.

This tweet confirms nothing is changing Uni-wise. Just for marketing purposes.

Whoa. Dallas is going blue? Images of Gary Hogeboom and curse of the Cowpies playing dark blue.
I don't want to jinx things (knock wood), but good things happen when we wear white at Dallas. 2005 and 2012 come to mind.

Odd, they always do white at home! Except for throwbacks, but their throwbacks involve a white helmet, so not sure if they are wearing them. Interesting...
Yeah, they tweeted out their combination for Thursday's game. Navy away jerseys with the throwback white pants.

I know we all have our opinion and Bruce is the one calling the shots but... If we are going to go throwback at least do a a better job with what you have.
The one helmet rule means the burgandies will not match, but it does not mean the logos cant match. Just put the spear on the helmet and keep the old school sleeve logo.
For a permanent update. I would take this uni, darken the helmet w/ oversized logo and use a spear on the sleeves. Probably make the pants match the numbers.
Maybe something like this helmet wise, but with spears on the sleeves....

If they do, I'm wondering if those burgundy pants with no stripes that we saw in training camp, will make an appearance.
You know what, we saw the traditional burgundy pants during training camp and those came back into the fold. Maybe the stripeless pants will be seen on field as well?
They aren't my cup of tea, but I can't knock them till I see them on field.

I don't know if we ever discussed this on this thread, but a few months back an alleged leak for our Thanksgiving "Color Rush" design was posted on Twitter. Apparently, the Thanksgiving Color Rush unis will not be monochromatic, but special throwbacks. See the article below....
-
it's all a matter of taste, and why I feel sorry for the people who have to try to please everyone. Cause where you see classic and clean, I see bland and boring
Yeah, unis are a totally subjective thing. I love classic, traditional unis, but I'm not a fan of the unis above. The Gulden's mustard gold is too bland for my taste.
-
Also, generally, would LOVE to see a white helmet concept at some point, those are always so sharp (like when the patriots did their current logo, but with their throwback color scheme/white helmet).
Here is a white helmet concept I made several years ago...

I would just be happy with the best of both worlds. Gold pants at home, burgundy on the road. I was never a fan of the white pants.

I wonder if anyone has done a poll on the color combos? It would be somewhat interesting to see the colors listed alongside a photo and let people vote on their choice.
Bruce is suffering from nostalgic-itis. The current unis are outdated; other teams are getting a newer look, we're going backwards, all because of his likes.
I agree, but I fear that if an update was made, it could go horribly wrong (e.g. Jags, Bucs)
