  1. With employment-based health insurance, someone else is spending their money on me, which means they're looking for the cheapest, not the best quality.

I would prefer if insurance was not tied to employment, but this simply isn't true. Any smart employer knows that giving their valued employees a ****ty health package is tantamount to asking them to leave. People with kids, or family members with serious conditions care as much or more about the quality of the health plan as they do their salary. It's often hard to tell what your precise market worth is, but a ****ty health plan is pretty easy to spot.

  2. Wait a second, why would a company who already provides insurance drop their insurance plan once the tax was in place? If they were that concerned with saving money they would have already dropped their insurance plan when there was no tax to pay for doing so, like right now.

Yeah - I really don't understand the argument that this will encourage employers to drop insurance cover. It would seem the opposite.

Rather than face a fine, companies can make a more attractive remuneration package to previously uninsured employees and part of the cost would be what they would have been fined anyway.

I'm not saying forcing employers to provide coverage is a good idea, but I don't get the argument that employers will be more likely to drop coverage.

  3. Just a guess, I won't cheat and look, but I going to say Manchester City isn't one of them, I'm pretty sure they're fresh on the scene with all the oil money.

Man City had a great history but fell all the way to Division 2 in the 90s.

As Oasis were big Man City fans, there was a funny version of Wonderwall at the time with lyrics about how bad they had become.

  4. Here's a not too tough question ... since the English Premier League was founded in '92 (21 years), 45 teams have participated. Seven teams have been there all 21 years. Can you name them?

  5. awesome. I hope they start showing more EPL and La Liga games on ESPN.

What? And interrupt coverage of World's Fattest Man, or whatever else would be running on a weekday afternoon?

  6. yeah, tell that to these 10 Year olds. They are the state champs from California.

They could beat DC United today, :silly:

But how many of these kids will play for the USA versus another country. :)

  7. Nah, he's right. Because guys like Messi, Xavi, Kaka, etc are definitely what Bubble Screen would consider the best "athletes" in their respective countries.

Good point. If Messi, Xavi or Kaka were born here they would have been either a power forward in the NBA or defensive tackle in the NFL.

  8. The first goal at 40 seconds is about the worst defending you could see. A US defender lines up covering the near post on a corner, and then runs toward to ball as it is crossed in, totally miss-timing his jump and the ball. :ols:

It's simple. The best athletes in this country don't play soccer. Never have. Never will. The US will always stink at this sport. Can't believe so many people still don't understand this.

This is nonsense. Many foreign countries don't care about basketball and yet the NBA has had multiple overseas MVPs, and other countries have beaten the USA in international play because the US teams were poorly prepared and coached.

The USA has more than enough of adequate athletic ability playing the sport. The greatest impediment to soccer development in the USA is the desire of parents to have the kids playing officiated games and be on U10 elite travel teams :ols: before they have adequate fundamentals. Stop playing games and scrimmages, and start practicing.

The level of coaching depth is awful too and a big problem for development of young players. When my son wanted to play rec soccer as break from his other sports, the 'all-star' rec team we put together would beat the local travel teams because of how poorly they were coached. They were trying to play at a level the kids couldn't execute - trying to hit passes, shots and trying long corners that were well out of their skill set.

  9. Pathetic.

I have a sad feeling that we will never be good at soccer. Just not in our culture.

The USA teams seem to make basic mistakes too often. The way in which the ball is turned over at low tempo of play in MLS makes it unwatchable to me. It's like watching women's soccer.

There needs to be much more practice on fundamentals.

  10. But then, along came Kim Jong-il and one incredible day in 1994, when the Dear Leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea picked up a golf club for the very first time, and — as witnessed by 17 security guards and reported by the state news agency — shot a smooth 38-under-par round of 34, including 11 holes-in-one.

Because of this I thought his death would have been the main story on ESPN, but there's no mention of it. I guess they are Tiger fanboys.
