It's pretty much down to B.J. Goodson now.  There are others but the talent level falls after Goodson from what I have seen talent wise after him.  Wilson is a good get for the Eagles.

The team is done at LB.

Something tells me we may see a 46 defense or “big nickel” with Collins/Curl on the field together as the base defense.

    Both need just two LB’s

N’Keal Harry, 6-foot-4, 228 lbs., WR, Arizona State: Harry is a first-round talent who may fall to the second round depending on how teams value other receivers like D.K. Metcalf and Marquise Brown. But Harry loves to block, he’s effective after the catch and makes contested catches — everything Rivera wants in a receiver. If he’s somehow still around when Carolina picks at No. 47 overall, Marty Hurney should seriously consider the former Sun Devil.

I could see him in an H-Back role in this scheme.

For all the blustering and feigned outrage, no one knows what, if anything, WFT would give up to obtain Harry.

I mean I think you’re right. They haven’t done much at LB and it’s for a reason. Likely because they think JHC/Holcomb can play there and if they get a chance in the draft they take one.

I couldn’t disagree more if they do think that... but hey... they’re pro coaches and I coach HS :ols:

Yeah I'm not really taking a position either way, I just think that's what they are looking at doing.

What could tell you that?  They don't know JHC, he opted out, I'm not even sure if they've seen him in person.

Hunch.  Same hunch I had last year when everyone was counting on SDH and I said I'd be surprised if he makes the team.  He did but got cut.

I get mixed messages on it so hard for me to land on a hard opinion on the LB spot.

I've heard reporters say Rivera likes Bostic.  I've heard Rivera say multiple times that what's missing on this defense to take the next step is a MLB.  Mark Bullock who watches a lot of film over and over again about our team seems convinced that WLB is the weak spot and while Bostic isn't hot, bur he's at least OK.  PFF scores don't back the idea that Bostic is OK -- I recall Cooley isn't a fan either based on his film study.

Keim has said its a good draft for LB.  As we all know.  But not sure if he's saying that because that's how the team sees it or that's how he sees it.

Something tells me the team likes JHC at WLB.  Get someone like Cox in the draft for MLB who has already played in this system and things don't look so bad.  JHC-Cox-Holcomb as the starters with Mayo/Bostic/Hudson backing up and specific schemes.

I also think we will see a lot of "Big Nickel" this year with Curl and Collins on the field at the same time with Collins essentially playing the SAM

EDIT:  Still think Collins should move to Will just like Neal is doing in Dallas.  His weaknesses would become strengths at that position and he has the build for the new era of LB's.

    It doesn’t toll.

Also, why anyone would buy any stock in JHC is beyond me. He was a marginal tweeter of a prospect with good length, and has never shown anything as a pro.

He is not a 3-4 ILB which is how he was used.

He’s an athletic, attacking LB which is how JDR plays his D.

I’m not holding out too much hope but I do wonder if the team is higher on him than fan’s are at this point

just re-sign Sundberg.... still boggles my mind. Wouldn't make sense to have a pretty good offense and top-5 defense, only to have to some special teamer **** up the snap to the punter/FG unit.... Way, Sundberg, Hopkins are all super close friends as well.

Apparently there are concerns regarding his injury

Given our defense is in year 2 of JDR, we have much better QB security and play, add in the free agent signings and draft picks we pick up and I see at least 10 wins and likely 11 or 12 in a very weak NFC East. If healthy we are a SB contender in the NFC...Fitz is not gonna waste this opportunity.

Not only is it a year in the scheme, but think how many players relied upon were 1st or 2nd year players. Just general growth makes this team better let alone new pieces.

Now imagine adding Anthony Walker at LB and Tre Boston or Malik Hooker at FS. Draft another LB (Jabril Cox?) at 51 ... it's probably the #1 defense in the NFL.

Cox is my favorite LB in this draft as he already played MLB in this scheme.

Some in the media just won't let the Darnold thing die.

Sure, Washington is going to pay Fitzpatrick $10 million guaranteed, but then turn around and trade for Darnold (in the last year of his deal) and then just not play one of them for funsies. While we're at, why not get Trubisky and Mariota. Have six QBs!

I see it happening but not until after the draft.

If Jets take QB Darnold’s cost drops. If WFT doesn’t get a QB they may want a young one.

Get Darnold for little and sign to extension. Let Fitzmagic start while Darnold learns for a year.

It’s actually a perfect scenario IMO

I think we need to be focused on the two interior LBs in the 4-2 vs. getting 4-3 personnel guys. Two interior guys who play downhill but have some speed and can get to zones and at least challenge tight ends man to man.

Absolutely. Why I think Collins would be great

    10-4. Current depth chart:

    WLB: Josh Harvey-Clemons, Khaleke Hudson

    MLB: Jon Bostic

    SLB: Cole Holcomb

Some work to do there, for sure. But I do like the "depth" so ... probably just need some a starter at MLB and WLB and call it an off-season (Whether in FA or Draft)

Was sad to see KPL go.

Bostic needs to be on the bench for a high value replacement either FA or draft.

bring back Kendricks and let him compete for a spot.

Trade for moseley. Get it done we need the mlb help. Sign ty hilton juju or Samuel. Anthony Harris and Gerald everett and be happy

He is not a great fit for this scheme

Now that Kwon Alexander is officially a free agent ... my LBs of preference/choice in order

MLB: Kwon Alexander, Anthony Walker, Denzell Perryman

OLB: Kyle Van Noy, Jayon Brown, Eric Wilson, Nicholas Morrow

Kwon is a WLB in this scheme

But what’s the point of making the voidable years for $140m?  Wouldn’t they have had the same effect spreading out the money if they made the voidable years for less?

I think it was an “F U” to the NFL’s salary cap rules.

You were the one who unduly criticised a poster with the ‘superior understanding of roster building line’ yet this is what you counter with? I’ll not get dragged in further, but I think his knowledge may well in fact be superior to yours...:kickcan:

That’s a lot of words to say “none.”

The superiority claim was based off his “people forget” post like he is the only one smart enough to understand.

Two years, $32 million is going rate for All-Pro Guard

However paying him 18mil on the tag is ****ing stupid. Given we could have a player at that position for half the cost, then by definition that is detrimental to the overall/bigger picture of roster building.

Which player did WFT want to sign that they were unable to sign due to the tag(s)?

When people say this, I don't think they realize the the domino effect of overpaying players.  Consistent winning in the NFL requires efficient contract and cap management.  The bottom of the roster (i.e. less sexy starters and backups) is often a product of how you manage the cap.

Neither tag impacted the cap in a detrimental way to roster building.

Your attempt to express your superior understanding of NFL roster building doesn’t apply to the given set of facts.
