Doesn’t Phoenix have like no first round draft picks until like 2030?
They've got only one this year (22nd). Their payroll is just matching the insanity of their depleted drafts.
Bradley Beal 5 years $251,019,650 includiong a no trade clause, Kevin Durant 4 yrs / $194,219,320, Devin Booker 4 yrs / $221,088,000.

You guys feel much more highly about Gobert than I do. I think he’s wildly overpaid and in close fought contests, a liability to have in the floor.
NBA playoffs 2024: Why do so many players have beef with Rudy Gobert?
I don't really have an opinion about his $ worth since I don't watch him much. I never was a fan of him since his stupid covid outburst and hitting a teammate.
There is a big gap between its impact on the court and the basketball fans perception imo.

Commanders Outbid ‘Half the League’ for Undrafted Free Agent
Adam Peters wasn’t about to let one of the most sought-after undrafted free agents, cornerback Chigozie Anusiem, get away from the Washington Commanders. So general manager Peters essentially outbid “half the league” to sign the former Colorado State star shortly after the 2024 NFL draft.
The Commanders handed Anusiem “a whopping $50,000 signing bonus and a $300K base salary guarantee, per source. Half the league wanted Anusiem after he went undrafted, and Washington paid up to lock him in,” according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
It’s little wonder Anusiem sounded overjoyed when he posted on X, “Commanders let’s rock!!!,” shortly after joining the team.
Anusiem wasn’t the only member of the Commanders’ rookie free-agent class who received a hefty contract. He was a prospect who visited with several teams as a potential Day 3 pick during the pre-draft process, including one of Washington’s NFC East rivals.
Commanders Paid Heavy Price for Chigozie Anusiem
Peters certainly made sure he got his man when he signed Anusiem to a bloated deal. The hefty terms offered are a sign of three things.
First, the player’s talent. Anusiem logged 3.5 tackles for loss, broke up 11 passes and snatched an interception during two years at Colorado State. He’d transferred from Cal. in 2022 and quickly became a regular starter for the Rams.
His greater playing time revealed a “big, athletic type” with “good IQ,” according to Taylor Kyles of Patriots on CLNS.
Kyles also had Anusiem rated as a “late Day 3 prospect.” He didn’t get drafted there, but instead cashed in because Peters and Commanders’ head coach Dan Quinn are both believers in Anusiem’s ability to transition to the pros.
Perhaps the Commanders’ primary decision-makers also feared seeing Anusiem showcase his talents for a rival. The player was “a surprise 30 visit for” the New York Giants, per NorthJersey.com’s Art Stapleton.
Like Kyles, Stapleton also envisaged Anusiem hearing his named called on Day 3. What’s more interesting is how both Stapleton and Kyles referenced an interview between Anusiem and The Draft Network’s Justin Melo.
While Melo noted Anusiem spoke with the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals, he also provided an intriguing assessment of the defensive back’s playing style. Specifically, Melo credited Anusiem with “Press-man CB size.”
Quinn’s defense often relies on physical, press-style man coverage, dating back to his days as coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks’ famed ‘Legion of Boom’ unit. Anusiem fits the profile for Quinn’s schemes at a position where the Commanders still need help.
Away from cornerback, the Commanders also paid up to add talent at another key position.

There are a lot of words I can use to describe Illinois’ defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton:
Relentless
Tenacious
Focused
Strategic is another word I would use when talking about Newton. Illinois moved him all around on the line of scrimmage to make sure he got the chance to test everyone ⎯and test for vulnerabilities in offensive line personnel. This is the type of player opposing lineman have to be aware of on every single snap. This is the type of player NFL offensive coordinators will have to game plan for.
Pocket wrecker
The name of the game on defense is stop the pass ⎯get lockdown cornerbacks and guys who can light a fire in the pocket and put heat on the quarterback.
Newton is highly flammable. He is always on ‘attack mode.’ Because of this he draws his share of double teams, but even then that’s not a lock to contain him because he fights that tandem like he’s in a cage match.
No off switch
Newton is a ball of energy with a lightning fast swim move and he’s got one thing and one thing only on his mind and that’s closing the deal. He’s quarterback minded. Per Pro Football Focus this past season, Newton participated in 402 pass rushing plays and posted eight sacks, seven hits, 28 hurries and two batted passes.
Run stuffer
Newtons’ efforts to stop the run were just as impressive. This isn’t one of those guys who’s taking plays off or one of those guys who’s going to be backhanding a paycheck. Nope. Newton is a complete 3-down defender. He’s a baller playing the run and he’ll stop at nothing to get to the ball carrier.
Run defense is where Newton’s raw brute power is on full display Newton plays the run like it’s personal. He punishes ball carriers inside the box or he’ll chase it out to the sideline. It doesn’t matter, he has the will and he’ll find the way.
2023 run stats: 52 tackle 26 solo 26 assists
Answers
When I walked away from Newton’s 2022 game film, I had four questions:
1. 2023 pressure and sack production? ✓
2. Level of consistency as a pass rusher? ✓
3. Can he make quick changes of direction?
4. Run defense numbers? ✓
Newton’s hurries decreased from 36 to 28, but his sacks doubled from four to eight. He was consistent getting after the quarterback. The same issue persisted of not being able to always make quick enough change of direction in the pocket and his tackles stayed about the same (59 in 2022 and 52 in 2023).
2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Athletic active and cat-quick force of nature with a high compete level. Plays hard snap to whistle. He wants it. Strong at the point of attack. Equally distributed body mass and power. Uses hands well. Presses gaps hard. Additional slap and head fake pass rush moves shown. Crashes in like storm waves against rocks. Sudden. Good one-gear speed. Accelerates in short areas, but lacks that coveted short-area bolting burst. Closes hard. Excellent instincts. Battles run game blockers. Impressive wrapping tackler. Always in or around the action.
Final words
Newton is a difference-maker.

Commanders sign undrafted QB Sam Hartman with $245,000 guarantee
The Commanders weren’t done adding quarterbacks when they drafted Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick.
Washington has also signed former Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman as an undrafted free agent. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Hartman got one of the biggest guarantees among undrafted free agents, with a $20,000 signing bonus and $225,000 base salary guarantee. Typically, teams only give guarantees that big to undrafted rookies they expect to make the roster.
In addition to Daniels, the Commanders have quarterbacks Marcus Mariota, Jeff Driskel and Jake Fromm under contract. Most likely, Daniels will start, Mariota will back him up, and Hartman will get a strong opportunity to beat out Driskel and Fromm for the No. 3 spot.
The 24-year-old Hartman spent five seasons at Wake Forest before finishing his college football career at Notre Dame last year. He started 57 games in six seasons.

Jer'Zhan Newton was my favorite defensive player in the draft. Washington got him at No. 36 overall. Did he fall to the second round despite his top-15 talent because of a January surgery on his foot, which he says has fully healed? Either way, no defensive player more consistently won over the last two seasons.

Washington Commanders: A-
Top needs entering the draft: Quarterback, offensive line, cornerback
The Commanders have undergone a total reset of their franchise over the past year, with a new owner (Josh Harris), general manager (Adam Peters) and coach (Dan Quinn). Peters, who had been in the 49ers' front office since 2017, had some capital to work with in this draft, with six picks on the first two days.
The first step, though? Picking a quarterback. With 2023 starter Sam Howell traded to Seattle, Washington had its choice of Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy at No. 2 overall. In my rankings, I had Daniels at No. 2, slightly ahead of Maye -- No. 6 -- with McCarthy nine spots later. In the end, the Commanders went with Daniels, a dual-threat playmaker who won the Heisman Trophy last season, and it was the right call. While he won't have quite the level of pass-catchers around him as Caleb Williams, Daniels has a true No. 1 in Terry McLaurin and a solid No. 2 in Jahan Dotson. Daniels is going to thrive in Kliff Kingsbury's wide-open offense and put up some massive numbers.
I wrote on Friday night about Washington's Day 2 haul, which is talented and deep. Taking defensive tackle Jer'Zhan Newton (36) is an example of the best-available-prospect approach; he has Pro Bowl upside as an interior pass-rusher. Mike Sainristil (50) is a really fun slot corner who can pick off passes and blitz off the edge. Tight end Ben Sinnott (53) can be an outlet for Daniels and upgrade as a run-blocker. Brandon Coleman (67) is a guard/tackle hybrid who could play early. And while I had other available receivers rated higher than Luke McCaffrey (100), the former quarterback turned heads with his contested-catch ability last season. Of the Day 3 fliers, I give linebacker Jordan Magee (139) the best chance to make the team because of his speed and size.
I really like this class overall, and whether it goes from great to amazing could hinge on Coleman becoming a starter. If he does and Daniels is a star, this could set the foundation for the Commanders returning to the playoffs -- in a couple of years.

Pairing Jordan Magee with Frankie Luvu seems like it could be very smart. Luvu will teach Magee as will Bobby Wagner. Peters is definitely working on making this defense an attaking one.
Dak, Jalen and Daniel are going to run for their lives.
