As I noted in the other thread, Alexandria (VA) has a statute of a random confederate soldier in Old Town. The city has unanimously voted to remove it, but the state legislature blocked it from happening.
In North Carolina removing monuments from public property is banned. Even of your city wants to remove a statue they're kinda SOL.

More than that, I also feel sad. A lot of people had to look at/walk past/attend statues/buildings/schools/roads that were obviously named to intimidate them (at the very least)
I used to drive by this statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest surrounded by Confederate flags from time to time in TN. Being from MD never really had to experience that in your face Confederate pride. (I'm sure it's here too but I never go to those areas) Everytime I would shake my head knowing really why it was there. Did not even know it was Forrest till I looked it up. Just knew there was a message being sent. And it's ugly as hell too! Would love if this was taken down but it's private property. I wish TN would block it's view at least.

Trumps latest statement was better. Reminds me of the "disavow" situation during the campaign. Dog whistle first, say the minimum acceptable thing later when forced to.
And the people who reacted to the dog whistle will ignore the second statement. "He's not being sincere now. They are just forcing him to say that. We know where he stands." I'm glad he finally said it but the damage is done.

I'm going with Trump on this one. Those racist losers will always exist in some form. The President trying that "many sides" BS after a neo nazi caused a death and injuries is disgusting. It's not hard to name and condem white supremacists, neo nazi, and the Klan. The only group probably hated more are child molesters. Trump made a calculated move that he would lose support if he called out white supremacists. This is a guy who has no issue calling out dumb stuff like Nordstrom's but swallows his tounge when it's important. The American President should not be winking at these guys.
Also, half his remarks was about the economy! Dude is deplorable.

Forget about 72 virgins. Random bar skanks will be all over you! The Bad Boys of racisism. I'm pretty sure all the ladies are swooning when David Duke takes his shirt off.

The WH is pulling "well what about the other side though" defense to shift blame from ****ing Nazis. I'm at the point where I'm done with human that had a hand in getting them elected.
This is ****ing ridiculous
It's moving over to Fox as well.
QuoteHEGSETH: You can call that out, and then -- but still also listen, say, on Black Lives Matter, to the grievances of young African-American males in urban cores who feel like they are looked at differently by police. That discussion still should be had. Just like young white men who feel like, “Hey, I'm treated differently in this country than I feel like I should have. I've become a second-class citizen. None of it -- they tell me I have white privilege.” None of that justifies racial preferences or violence at all. But there's always a grievance underneath it that it's worth talking about. And we should never live in such a politically correct culture that we can't at least have a conversation. There's a reason those people were out there. Some of it is outright racism and needs to be condemned. A lot of it, though, is I feel like my country is slipping away and just because I talk about nationalism -- not white nationalism -- doesn't mean I'm talking in code that I'm a racist.

Violence from many sides but more so from them leftist. Obviously they would have ran people over too if they weren't so concerned about vehicle emissions.

He just released a statement in support of the dead police officers but nothing about the union prostestor who was killed by a white domestic terrorist.
Its blatantly obvious he approves of their ideology and appreciates their support. Can't bring himself to criticize his followers.
He finally put out a tweet about that. Doesn't read like his words. I'm assuming he was tired of getting slammed on cable news about it.

No mincing words. Trump is not afraid to say radical Islam but is terrified of whispering white supremacy. Trump quicky becomes PC when talking about his base

That Trump response to Putin, was he being sarcastic? I thought that was something from the Onion at first. A lot of people are going to lose their jobs....
No sarcasm detected. And they called Obama weak.

South lawn events are reserved for passing something through one chamber of Congress. Trump must have forgot to invite Mitch McConnell and the gang over for Bud Lights the first time this passed.

Woot woot. Now work on fixing the ACA. Will eat my crow for hating on McCain. Here's to hoping all those who voted for this lose their next election. Looking at you Dean Heller.
Live look at Mitch McConnell

Just give up Mitch and call the vote. I've got to be up in 5 hours. My faith in some of these legislatiors might have been restored.

John McCain has to know his entire legacy is at stake with this vote.
If he's allowed to vote no I think it will be because they flipped Murkowsky. I hope I'm wrong but I see these guys passing this turd. McCain should have stayed at home or voted down the MTP.

Ryan will bring the exact same language in a bill to a House vote. No need for conference. That's how this travesty is going to work.
All these promises and assurances were BS for the cameras. Everyone knows if they vote for this, it will become law. This bill that was referred to as a fraud and worst than doing nothing. These assholes could literally stop this if they wanted. 16 million people losing coverage, increase in premiums? Sign me up for that. McCain you should have stayed in Arizona.

It's insanity. I don't know if I've ever seen this before.
Same. These guys are playing chicken with 17% of the economy. McCain said he hates the process but he's knee deep in it! "Please Paul Ryan save Americans from my actions! No one can stop me but you"
Nazis showing up at places uninvited.

Graphic language. Vice embeds with white supremacists in Charlottesville. That many sides comment just looks even dumber when you actually pay attention to these guys. There's no way to watch and not be angry.
