Beautiful combo. I was more disappointed in his elusive strategy, even though it was absolutely the correct winning strategy for Carlos, than in the decision. I had round 2 going to Nick and rounds 3 & 4 going to Carlos for sure. The first and last rounds were up in the air. I was really really hoping Nick would start taking things to the ground in round 4 and 5, but he didn't (mainly because of the elusive Jackson strategy). If Nick really could have finished Carlos on the ground like he said he could have, then he should have. I would love a rematch serving also as Condit's title defense.

Nick came to win the fight, Carlos came to win the match. Carlos won the match, but the FIGHT in my eyes is a draw. Nick looked worse off after the fight was over. I am really really impressed in both these guys' endurance and cardio. That has something to do with the lack of action and grappling (compared to what it could have been and what people were expecting it to be).

If Condit fights GSP, it's probably going to be the opposite of what people think it will be. I don't think it'll be a 5 round jab/clinch fest. Carlos isn't afraid of unleashing some combos here and there, and we really haven't seen GSP with that killer instinct in a while. It could come out in GSP's next fight if Condit gets a little flashy (hopefully!!)

  2. Carlos is a Greg Jackson product now. No more KO's, it's all about the decision victory. Safe.

Condit was faster than Diaz, and he definitely won that fight. I don't know why Nick thought he was ahead, he clearly wasn't until he got that takedown at the end. That's the only time it seemed like he had a chance to finish Carlos.

"I'm low on water, I'm low on calories, I'm low on food, I'm low on energy and I'm more so than anything low on patience with anything that takes patience"

"If you ask me something stupid and I am going to answer it with something stupid and if I hear myself talk something stupid and if am really pissed off, depressed and, bent out of shape about it, I'm going to throw a serious fit for no ****ing reason."

Incredible episode. SO pumped for this!
  4. Pride Mode is more fun right now than the regular UFC mode. It's awesome because it's 10 minutes straight, it's in Japan and a different feel with the ropes than the octagon, Rampage and Wanderlei are completely different fighters, and the kicks to the head!!! The knees to the head and the stomps are ****ing brutal looking and badass. Rampage's slams are awesome too. My roommate picked it up and played it for the first time ever and loved playing as Rampage because he can pick up and slam from seemingly anywhere unless you can defend it correctly.

I felt going back into the UFC mode of the demo hampered me and held back the full game a little. I caught myself thinking, damn I wish this was 2 rounds... or damn I wish I could kick him now in this position, but I can't. With Rampage and Wanderlei, you experience one of the best trilogies in MMA, AND more importantly you feature two styles of MMA.

They made a mistake in picking JJ and Anderson Silva for the UFC mode because they both do basically the same thing in the game. I would have probably liked JJ and Machida or Shogun, or someone who has a different skill set than Jones. Bones and Silva kept throwing spinning back elbows, spinning back fists, flying knees and kicks, and **** that just got old and annoying after a while. I hated trying to throw a power punch one way and then throwing 3 spinning punches in a row out of nowhere...

Overall the game feels a LOT better than the last one. Playing the last one now and getting into a submission animation comes across like they took out the submission mini-game they have in there now. The new sub system is much more efficient, as is the transition system. I'm assuming the fighting mechanics for both modes will be similar, so I'm excited for the potential of the UFC mode, but honestly the Pride mode is so much fun, it is definitely enough for a full game on its own.

Also, thanks for the Overeem link! Just did that

  5. Hype starts at 11:50, press conference starts at 24:40. Good conference, I'm going to the weigh ins tomorrow at The Chicago Theater, I'm pretty pumped! I can't make it to the actual fights but I do want to see the fighters in person since I probably won't get a chance like this again for a while and maybe get some pics and autographs!

Summary copied from another poster in a forum:

Dana: "Chael's nuts. Listen to ME, not HIM. He's not the champion, he WILL fight Anderson Silva if he wins, he will not fight HWT, or Jon Jones."

Chael says he took the belt from Anderson Silva, Bisping says he got it on ebay for 29.99

Mike Russow, a Chicago police officer, said he used all of his vacation time to train for this fight with Einemo on Saturday.

Chael: Fighters who say go into seclusion during camp means my wife and kids are driving me nuts and I have to get out.

Rashad says it's easier to fight when you don't like someone. He says I'm fighting him, so I have a lot against him now. "Its personal, but its not personal personal"

Chael says if you're not smart enough to know you have to change channel from Fuel to Fox, you don't deserve the entertainment.

Phil Davis: Rashad won't be the No 1 contender any more after this weekend

Sonnen has a belt at the podium. "I believe I’m the champ. I took [Anderson's] belt like a gangster in the night."

Einemo on finding fans while fighting a Chicago cop in Chi-town: "Not everyone likes the police so I have to go for the other ones"

Phil Davis on Rashad saying he could outwrestle him: "Cocaine's a hell of a drug, I encourage imagination but... no." Says Rashad Evans can't even beat him at thumb-wrestling. Rashad says Phil Davis' wrestling style is trash. Phil on Rashad: "I'm embarrassed, he is on drugs and they are going to test him" Rashad says Phil won D1 Title in a weak division - Bader and Weidman were in that division - I wanted Chris to speak up.

Weidman says, if I lose this fight, it's do or die. Thinking of it as a win-win "gives me an excuse to lose."

Davis says Dana meant winner will get title, but in event that I hit Rashad in head too hard and break my hand, someone else will get shot next

Evans says Davis looks like Arsenio Hall and John Salley had a baby. I laughed.

^ doesn't really capture the ridiculousness of Chael and the back and forth between Rashad and Davis.
  6. Some quick picks for the PPV:

    Barboza by TKO

    Paul Harris by heel hook

AJ by GnP in the 1st, and if it goes past that then Vitor by TKO

Aldo by UD or TKO in the 3rd or 4th

    FOTN: Etim/Barboza or maybe Aldo/Mendes

    SOTN: Paul Harris

    KOTN: Vitor "Brazil" Belfort

  7. Tito's body is giving out. I hope he gets his retirement fight, one final fight, and maybe against someone who's not going to hurt him much... those body shots really break him up.

Just to clarify, did Mir kiss his trainer on the lips before they let him into the cage?

    also, Frank has a brace

OH MY GOD FRANK MIR SUBMITTED HIM

  8. UFC 140: Dragons don't chew bones, they swallow them

Mark Hominick vs. Chan Sung Jung: Hominick has been training a lot harder since Aldo, and he probably has a lot more confidence in himself as well. It's hard to pick against him. Both fighters can take punishment, and this fight will go the distance with Mark out pointing Jung.

    Hominick via UD

Claude Patrick vs. Brian Ebersole: Fight will most likely be on the ground at least 70 percent of the time. If Patrick can get his guillotine in, he has a chance, otherwise Ebersole is the stronger wrestler and fighter and will keep Patrick in control. Patrick will need to pull a sub in order to win, but Ebersole has too much experience. Both fighters are are riding long winning streaks.

Ebersole by GnP in Round 3.

Tito Ortiz vs. Antônio Rogério Nogueira: Tito got a flash sub (IMO) on Bader and didn't look particularly good against Evans (who a level higher than Tito anyways in terms of fighting skills). Nog lost decisions to Bader and Phil Davis, and also wasn't especially good in both losses. Both fighters have a puncher's chance, and both fighters may be out of the UFC with another loss. This fight is a coin flip for me. I can see both fighters realizing that they are equal halfway through the fight and then round three becoming a jab/takedown exchange for points.

Nog by SD, or Tito/Nog by KO in Round 2, or Nog by flying heel hook in Round 2.

Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir: Mir is the stronger wrestler, Nog is Nog. Mir will most likely try to control the fight with his wrestling and maybe even try to take Nog down. I don't think Mir is that afraid of Nog's JJ. If the fight stays standing, Nog will try to battle, but Mir is at this point in their careers too much to handle. Mir needs better competition, he's on the lowest rung of the highest tier in HW. Nog is firmly in the middle of the second tier. Nog will try his hardest to avenge his loss, but he's just too old.

    Mir by TKO Round 2

Jon Jones vs Lyoto Machida: Fight of the Night. Both fighters are well documented to be complete opposites in terms of style yet Lyoto's style matches perfectly with Jon's. Jon's conversely does not match well with Lyoto's style at all. Jon is an inexperienced champion, ****y, and headstrong (yet one of the smartest and most talented fighters around). Machida lost the belt, but he's patient and also one of the smartest fighters right now. This fight will stay standing until Jones decides he's had enough of Machida's elusiveness. Only if Jones can effectively take Machida down and keep him down will this fight go to the ground. We just don't know if Jones can do that to Machida, who has incredible TDD. Outside of that, I have no idea what will happen in this fight. Machida could come out super strong, and Jones could come out super fast. I am expecting more kicks from both fighters, and a slow first half of the fight. This fight will NOT go the distance, both fighters have enough power to TKO each other and Jones has never gone the distance before. If we see round 5, Machida will win in round 5. Otherwise, I think Jones is too talented and will be focused enough not to make his usual mistakes or get frustrated with Machida.

Jon Jones by standing guillotine transitioned into a body triangle, Round 3. Submission of the Night. Bones is rich.

  9. I'm going to the Chicago event and I'm very excited for the triple header, PLUS Mighty Mouse/Wineland, Roop/Swanson and potentially Evan Dunham/Paul Sass. This is a fantastic card...

I think the main card will be mostly wrestling and grappling (although every time I've said that, it ends up being the opposite). Bisping's TDD and ground defense will be tested for real against Maia (way more so than against Mayhem), Chael will definitely try to take Munoz down too, and Rashad/Davis imo will end via TKO out of the clinch. 5 legitimate wrestlers/grapplers and then Bisping.
