And at any rate, when considering what to do with Wall from a team building perspective, I don't see the upside in giving up on him now.  Giving up on his potential right as he's entering his prime in order to start over

I agree with not giving up on him right now, but exactly what potential are you talking about?  That always seems to be the abstract conversation piece when it comes to pro athletes.  He kind of is what he is at this point, it seems.  He still has a ****ty jumper, is super lackadaisical at times, and has Jay Cutler like body language on the court.  Not exactly someone who will lead anybody's squad to the promised land.  The 52 point night was fantastic, but we all know those are few and far between.  It's easier for him to have a 5-18 shooting night than be 18-31 from the floor.

No team will win with John Wall as the leading scorer.  That's just not his strength.

  2. The only reason to trade Wall would be when you know he won't re-sign here.  For the next 2 seasons, the Wiz have him at a discount compared to the current deals being handed out.  I know I'm critical of him, but I don't think trading him is the best idea unless you totally rip off another team by doing so.  But we all know Ernie doesn't operate that way.

It's a star driven league and you can't win anything of significance with 1 "star" on the team, especially when that guy is your PG.  The Wiz need another stud to go with Wall, but that person needs to be a PF or C.

I'd settle for a few solid bench players right now.

Both All-Stars, however, say they’re happy in their current homes.

    Per the WaPo:

“We talk about it all the time,” Wall said with a smile, after his Wizards defeated Cousins and the Sacramento Kings in overtime, 101-95.

Hours before the two went to dinner together, Cousins, playing coy while in a perky mood, expressed similar thoughts. […] “[Do we] talk about playing with one another? Is that your question?” Cousins asked a reporter, then grinning big just like Wall, “It’s come up.”

“Just trying to figure out what’s going to happen, you know what I mean?” Wall said. “[Cousins] loves where he’s at and I love where I’m at, so whatever we feel like gives us the best opportunity to win — I know what our [team] is here and what I want to do here. And it’s something I keep in my mind.”

The friendship between the two, along with fellow former Wildcat and current Phoenix Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe, is no secret. The three played one season together at Kentucky, although they were friendly from their prep and AAU basketball days, before all entering the 2010 NBA Draft. Wall went first to the Wizards, Cousins fifth to the Kings and Bledsoe 18th to the Los Angeles Clippers.

“We used to call them ‘The Three Amigos,'” former Kentucky assistant coach Scott Padgett told Slam magazine in March. “You could not separate John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and Eric Bledsoe. To be honest with you, other than them playing against each other, they’re probably still on the phone with each other all the time (to this day). They’re still very tight.”

Combined, they earned $133 million over their first six seasons, and they each stand to make eight figures annually for the foreseeable future. Wall and Bledsoe’s contracts don’t run out until 2018-19 in Washington and Phoenix, respectively, and Cousins is signed in Sacramento through next season.

This team is really depressing to watch.  I'd love to believe this is new coach/new system growing pains but it doesn't appear that way.  It appears to be a severely undermanned team that might win 28 games.

Someone please tell me I am wrong, and why.

You are so wrong.  Just sit there in your wrongness and be wrong.

There's no way this team can win more than 27 games.  :ols:
