  1. Wow- this team sucks so bad. 30 years and counting.

No longer a fan, but knowing the ineptitude of the FO and desire of the prior fanbase to be good, it’s so bad.

The owner on verge of losing the team, the division rival trading picks to get proven stars while the Commies draft second tier players at the same position and mismanaged cap space… such a ****show

  2. Jimmy G is 'mediocre' but led his team to a SB. Very well could be available next year

Tannehill is mediocre but very well could be leading his team to SB this year and was comeback player of year in 2019 after being traded for peanuts. Chance he may be released pending Derick Henry contract.

Wentz is mediocre (probably best in class) and was worth a conditional future 1st and probably will be in the AFC Championship game this year IMO.

Cousins, 'Mr. Mediocre', will be on a new team next year, so there you go. And I'm no fan of Cousins but if I saw him playing in the Super Bowl for the NO Saints or Carolina I would not be one bit shocked.

Now, I haven't even mentioned Rodgers/Wilson/Watson, but with a competent FO they will be available as well.

So, yes, I did read your post and won't even cite the 'exception' to your argument in Brady. But plenty of marquee QBs will be available and continue to be available. I'd keep gambling on blue chips at other positions and poach a QB down the road.

How are these teams not successful?

Picking up Mariota is basically equivalent to writing the words "COMPLETELY MEDIOCRE FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE" on huge signs and hanging them up all over FedEx.

Drafting everything but QB and then hoping for a marquee FA QB at some random point in the future is pretty much the opposite way of how current successful teams have been built.

Upper echelon QBs simply don't become available in FA in the modern NFL. The only exception for the most part is Brady, but that's because he was literally 43 years old when he became a FA. A case could possibly be made about Brees as well, but he was coming off of a major injury to his throwing shoulder so it was a huge risk when the Saints grabbed him.

So if we want an elite QB in FA we'll probably have 3 options:

    1) Wait for some elite QB to get really old and see if we can pick him up (which would be a vintage 2000s Snyder move)

    2) Wait for some elite QB to have a major injury close to his contract year, wait for his team to let him go, and then try to pick him up and hope his injury heals

    3) Wait for some elite QB to do something horrible and be released by his team and hope the league doesn't suspend him and we can pick him up

Current successful team that 'hoped' into marquee FA QB like Tampa? They're pretty successful

Plus, league is so dynamic that yes, 'marquee' FA QB's probably will be more readily available.  Not 'franchise' QBs, but 'marquee' QBs... yes. And the trade option should encompass this argument, i.e. teams that will part ways with pending FA/bloated contract QB. Wentz, Cousins, Garapolo are all more than competent QBs that have led their teams to SBs/playoff runs and are available almost annually.

This flight of QBs should be our target. Mariota is not that but I would bring him in to take 'the big step' Rivera talked about. A big step would be a winning season :( and Mariota could do this.

  4. Mariota is a FA and has shown some competency in limited appearances in Oak/LV. The WTF's are not going to land a top flight vet like Wilson, Rodgers or even Watson in a trade. Forget about that, this is a wasteland and you need to go to middle, if not bottom, of the barrel. Therefore, you might as well look in that range. Te other guy I'd consider is Capt. Crablegs in NO (moreso prior to injury).  But Mariota is my target personally.

I'd build the draft around everything but QB, maybe even for next year as well. The QB fix will be a FA and not a draft pick IMO and 2023 might be the yer to get that person.

  5. Need a signal caller on both sides of the ball, I’d be happy with Carr for a 1st in 2023, 3rd 2022.

I think CB way more important than FS right now. Need coverage specialists, guys who can play man. Watching Ramsey used in LA is such an advantage on D.

Any WR will do, as long as he’s not a bust. Can’t use draft capital so I’d look very hard in FA pool gor best availabile. Mike Williams probably gonna be $$$

edit: dang… l just looked at this teams top 4 contracts in ‘22. Collins, Jackson, Samuel & Fuller. That’s pretty poor distribution of resources. They need serious help. I get Collins won’t be around at that salary and Samuels was hurt, but wow.

Looking at FA WRs I’d target Chark/JuJu/EQ. St. Brown for cheaper big target options

  6. Need a signal caller on both sides of the ball, I’d be happy with Carr for a 1st in 2023, 3rd 2022.

  7. I just posted about Del Rio supporting his release. He has very little creativity, which is common in the NFL on D. Seems like all the innovation over the past couple decades came on offense.

I think NFL defenses need to look to baseball and some deeper analytics. I watch these antiquated NFL zones leave players in space week after week with nobody in their zone and essentially wasted usage of players. None more so than LBs.

I really feel if a bright mind looked at current offenses and created 'defensive shifts' (analogous to baseball) for down and distance scenarios there seriously would be utility. I personally wouldn't commit 1 player to a 'zone' from this day forward. Everything would be man with a switch to rover roles mid play. Essentially, man coverages with multiple releases and minimum 5 man rushes 80% of snaps (5th rusher with draw/screen/run blitz responsibility).

Any play where you see a guy 'covering' his zone with nobody in it should make any DC question how can we prevent that from happening again.

  8. Rivera seemingly has done a pretty good job with one train wreck scenario after another, let alone with a QB rotation scooped off of the local street corners.

Del Rio has done very little with a good depth of talent and draft picks. Also, some FA money spent on that side of the ball as well. There never seems to be any creativity to enhance the talent on D, the schemes seem to benefit the opponent. Would love to see him leave for a creative mind on D. Even if the risk fails by searching for a innovator. Can't do much worse than Del Rio at this point. You already have a lifer in Rivera, get me a kid off the street that looks at the game another way and wants to create something special with the talent on D.

Wright seems like the modern day businessman 'pleaser'. He'll get the pulse the room and make his decision based on how many people will be happy against how many will dislike. He'll add some hipster spin to it that seems like there's momentum or general consensus behind it. He just seems to annoy me with his posts and comments. Won't hurt the franchise and safe move for the role, but lukewarm is just annoying. Give me some passion with this position. The Sean Taylor ex post facto comments  were only made after the 'bungle'. Probably only because he would of took credit if it was a success. A whatever way the wind blows leader, would love to see him gone personally

  9. I never see this front 4 with stunts. I don't know if JDR thinks they don't need to be creative given the talent but I think getting Chase in a stunt might improve his production. Also, I think it would only enhance what Payne and Allen have been doing, which has been very good frankly

Like with the Trent Williams situation where people didn’t want to believe he was the problem or the Kirk situation where it was obvious he didn’t want to play here, some just refuse to read the tea leaves. I know part of our past time is persecuting the wFT management, but this is so obviously a bigger problem then just this team.

Reminds of when the yanks went down for steroids when we now know everyone was doing it. If the full report is release, then when the dust settles, if it does, we will likely be the team most associated, but this will hit league wide.

TW situation should be discussed separately. By all accounts I read that was on him. He’s a dope anyway
