It looks like he put a white layer above it and reduced that layer's transparency...

All I did was erase around CP and essentially cut him out of the picture. Then, I just pasted that image back on to the original picture, creating a second CP layer. Then I just decreased the original image's opacity, so the background faded out but the CP I pasted on there stayed 100% opaque.
