If we, and by we I mean the players and coaches and fans, rally around the Heinicke experience despite his obvious shortcomings…then why don’t we look to sign on to the full moxie experience but with significantly less shortcomings?
Im talking of course about taking a swing at Baker “king moxie” Mayfield this off-season. Might be fun!
Baker can't hold Heinicke's moxiestrap...

Vikes D is ranked 7th in points allowed while our D is at 17.
Nope...in terms of points per game allowed, Vikes' D is ranked 14th, and Commanders' D is ranked 15th

Man oh man... I have not been here in a long time and this still feels so Campbell/Collins/CB5 or the Griffin/Cousins saga.
I feel ya...me back in June...

You think Jon Allen drug the highest-paid Guard in the league all over the field for 60 full minutes because of Taylor Heinicke?
Man, don’t do this to yourself.
I'll repeat myself: I think your definition of "rallying around" differs from everyone else's lol...
4 minutes ago, SoCalSkins said:Heinicke trusts his playmakers to make plays and he bets on them. They love him for it. He is the anti-Cousins.
Something I said last year based on an article about Cousins I had read: Cousins trusts the process more than he trusts his playmakers. Heinicke trusts his playmakers even more than he trusts his arm.

It was the Heinicke's first game back from the Covid list. Maybe they were going through withdrawal and took too big a Moxie hit before the game. If my hair were on fire, I'd need to blow off a little steam too.

‘That’s what good teammates do. Hype up guys that need the hype.So if I understand this argument correctly:
Someone: "The players are rallying around Heinicke."
You: "No they aren't. They are rallying around McLaurin, Payne, and Allen."
Someone: "McLaurin and Allen are on record as saying they rally around Heinicke because he has 'it'.."
You: "They don't mean it. I know what they're really thinking."
Did I get it right?

You're preaching to the choir, we already saw in Dallas last season how hard Heinicke made Payne and Allen fight
We also saw in Dallas last season how hard guys like Payne and Allen made their teammates fight...so I guess they're both wrong.

I'm with you. Was it boring? Absolutely and I appreciated it. Watching Heini win is like watching RG3 without the wheels or arm talent. You just never know what's going to happen.
And without the constant injuries or the slides that look like a baby deer walking on a frozen lake lol...

I see a lot of folks leaning on the “team is rallying around” trope…and they’re half-right.
The team is “rallying around” Jon Allen, Scary Terry and Antonio Gibson. HineyHiney/Turner is along for the ride and cobbling together about 8-10 plays of competent football in the second half, at best.
Doesnt mean we won’t beat that choking bum Cousins this Sunday, tho. So, that might be fun.
I think your definition of "rallying around" might be different from others lol...

I think next five weeks will be telling for Heinicke.
If he goes 4 and 1 I will be a believer. I think his style of play makes him a top back up. I think injuries could be a problem for him with his style of play.
Philadelphia game will be tough for him
Looking back on things the Qb we should have took is Mariota. He can run and throw alittle bit much better fit then Wentz and Heinicke. May not have made are record better but he would fit better then Wentz. Him and Heinicke are similar if one got hurt you could put other in not much change.
Does this guy's post look like this--full of empty space--to anyone else or is it just me? lol...(it might just be me)

It was still bad football, that was barely watchable for 3 hours, that I wouldn’t get carried away about.
Eh, so was the Monday Night Miracle game against the Cowboys lol...and I think in that game we had not scored a single TD yet that season until Moss' TD with 4 minutes to go. We beat the Bears the previous week by a score of 9-7 off three field goals if my memory is correct.

Heinicke is a great story plays with a lot of heart and is clutch. But he also has below average arm strength, below average size, below average accuracy.
Wentz to me right now is a pure pocket passer but without a pure passers accuracy or pocket presence.
Either Howell ends up the answer or we are QB shopping for the zillionith time
I predict option C, sir…- 1

LOL 😂...nobody does. It just happens lol...
Heinicke's not good enough to be consistent, and that goes beyond arm strength. But he...I dunno...sprinkles magic fairy dust in the huddle or something lol, and all of a sudden everyone's making plays at the end of the game. Others point out that he's 7-3 over his last 10 starts. That's unheard of around here, especially when we're starting Taylor "Hey, bro, wake up...the NFL wants you to start a playoff game" Heinicke.
EDIT: I had to go check and see when we last started a season 7-3...it was 1996 and the QB was Gus Frerotte lol. I know Heinicke's 10 starts are spread over 2 seasons, but that was the quickest and easiest way to compare (if not the most accurate). I honestly don't know how the **** he does it, like you said...then again, if we knew how he did it there wouldn't be any "legend of Taylor Heinicke" to one day tell our grandchildren about.

I have no doubt Heinicke trusts his arm. He clearly does, probably to a fault.
Oh, it's absolutely to a fault lol...(that was one of the ways I described his play last year)
As for what coaches would have preferred in that situation, agree to disagree I suppose, since it's not really easy to prove either way. I just think the attitude of "If the shot's there, take it" tends to be what most coaches want.

To me, this is pretty much the exact same throw...maybe Heinicke's limit is 46 yards? lol (gotta watch it on youtube)

Again, for a QB with an NFL arm that could be the right decision. If it was Aaron Rodgers or Mahomes or someone I'd say absolutely, throw that pass all day long because you know they have the talent and are going to put it where it needs to be.
With Heinicke that goes from an easy TD to a toss up that could easily have been intercepted. Which is why it was a dumb decision in this situation. Which is exactly what everyone would be saying if he hadn't gotten lucky and been bailed out by Terry.
Is your argument "Heinicke should have known not to trust his arm even if the absolute best WR on the team is wide open for a TD and even if he's made that same throw multiple times for TDs"--and that every coach in the NFL would say the same?

For a QB with an NFL arm, you might have a point (though it would still be somewhat risky since it was after the play mostly broke down) but with Heinicke that basically goes out the window because even when planted he would have trouble with that throw, but in this situation he couldn't even get his body into it so it was very underthrown.
So that was very very far from being even close to a "sure TD" in this situation. And this situation is the one we're talking about.
That's not a "hail mary"...
Heinicke made a throw to McLaurin last week almost the exact same distance--while Terry had insanely tight coverage--and placed it on a dime. How hard is it really to imagine that he felt he could do it again when the nearest defender to McLaurin is 4 yards away? And doubt Rivera or any coach would be screaming "NO! YOUR ARM IS TOO WEAK!" lol...and that's pretty much what it was: the right read, the right throw, and the right decision...but his arm is too week to consistently make that "dime" throw from one game to the next. Then again, with the distance between TM and the defender maybe Heinicke felt he had some leeway...I mean, c'mon, it's Terry he's throwing to.
By the way, he also made a similar throw at a similar distance to McKissick against the Panthers in 2020 for a TD (except McKissick had tighter coverage when he threw it as well).
