I've heard this idea before, but I'm not sure why Detroit would make this deal.  They only trade based on the perception that they won't get their QB.  If they are required to sign off on not taking Young, then that perception is gone.  If they know for a fact that the Redskins are targeting Young, then they also know that they can wait and get their guy at 3.  The only way they trade up is if think we're willing to give up Young.

I still think the draft will begin a pick #3.  If I'm Detroit, I would sit still and let Burrow, Young, or Tua simply fall in my lap.  At that point, they have all the leverage to make a trade for multiple picks or take the player that falls to them.  If they simply take the player that falls to them, then the draft will start at pick #4.

I've heard that it's possible that Burrow is possibly not keen on going to Cincinnati.

So what happens if all of a sudden Cincy decides that they're going to shop that pick and see who wants to trade up for Young/Burrow/Tua?

Maybe the Dolphins jump us for a QB or the Giants do for Young.

Now that's a scary thought.  The Giants could do that, but I doubt that they would...I hope.😥

On second thought, if the Giants did that now either Burrow or an innumerable amount of very high draft picks fall into the Redskins' lap.

I’d agree with you if it weren’t for some significant injury history.

In fact, if it weren’t for the injury history, and if Tua had played the remainder of 2019, I’d give you good odds he’d be the consensus #1 #1. Not Burrow.

I can definitely see that.  In fact, before the Redskins drafted Haskins last year, I had hopes of them being in position to draft Tua this year.  Just goes to show no one knows what the future holds.

For the record, you quoted KDawg in your reply to me.

I don’t think the Skins take Tua. But I think anyone that is completely convinced that Young is already a Redskin simply has made their own mind up and are hoping to will it to fruition. And chances are, it happens.

But this is the NFL. The only sure thing is that there are no sure things.

I would have heavy interest in Tua if I was the Redskins. Ultimately, I probably wind up with Young. But let me tell you... Tua has special written across his forehead in bold letters.

I'm right there with you if Tua was 100% healthy.  What scares me the most is his inability to stay healthy while playing behind an NFL caliber offensive line with NFL caliber WRs, RBs, and TEs.  Somehow Tua consistently dealt with injuries his entire time as a starter.

The young man's high IQ and incredible skill set is undeniable but he appears to be as brittle as glass.  NFL defenders are much bigger, faster, and stronger than college defenders.  As a result, Tua scares me.  I can see Chase Young (possibly in a Giants uniform) freight-training past our helpless tackle and ending our brittle QB's season.

If the choice is between Young and Tua, I think I would take Young.

I know this is probably a no brainer hypothetical, but I'm curious if you had the choice right now with the second overall pick between chase young and nick bosa, knowing what we know now who would you pick?

Obviously smart money is on bosa, already proven he can be a dominant force in the nfl and had a d.r.o.t.y. season but I wonder if there's anyone in here with so much confidence in young that they'd take him over bosa right now.

Can I sleep on it?  Do I take a dominant NFL rookie or take the player who virtually every expert says is a better prospect who hasn't played a down in the NFL?  One has spectacularly shown what he can and will do at the NFL level and the other nothing...yet.

    Bosa?  Maybe??????

It's weird that people don't see EDGE as a need.  I found this on another forum.  These are the totals pressures in 2019 for each defender per SIS.  It's pretty damn sad how far down the list our first edge rusher is.

Hmmm.  That list may be the best argument for drafting Chase Young I've seen to date.  It appears the Redskins are not as good at EDGE as we may have believed.  So we are talking about getting the consensus best player in the draft at what may, in reality, be a position of need.

    Ehhhh, some do, some don't.

I enjoy hearing the discussions vis-a-vis cap #s and contracts, it can be convoluted and ultimately is about resource management to allow the team to progress and succeed, but not everyone seems to see it in that light. There is often a kneejerk "He's not worth it" that doesn't seem to consider those elements of cap or other's contracts.

When the discussion is money, it's almost always in reference to the cap.  If there was no cap, then the discussion would be about if a player is worth what they got paid.  The cap era has made what every player makes or doesn't make relevant.

It's tough to pass on Young.

It's also tough to pass on Tua.

I listen to offers and if there isn't something absurd, given Tua's injury, I pull the trigger on Young and don't look back.

If the Redskins hadn't drafted Haskins last year and if Tua was 100% healthy, Tua would probably be my choice over Chase Young.

  9. I loved Skinsinparadise and skinny21 posts.  Your posts are very plausible foods for thought.  Personally, I hope they draft Chase Young, because nothing improves a defense more than an elite d-line.  I agree they have the potential to be a reincarnation of the 49ers front line if they take Young and that's a frightening thought.

You obviously don't know me very well I am a habitual hope-er and dare-er every dang season, almost to the point that it is a mental disorder (my wife certainly thinks it is).

But that is besides the point here, it's one thing to have a Chase Young thread, its another to format it in the exact way that we do on draft day.

My apologies.  I was not questioning your or anyone else's level of hope or faith.  My bigger point was that I understand people finding the title foolish and presumptuous.

If you don't change the name of this thread and something, anything  happens you better have plans to leave town or something

Since after the 1991 season, this team has seemed cursed for whatever reason.  So I personally understand your concern and don't make light of it for one second, because no one knows what the future holds.

OTOH, some of us are daring to hope and believe that 2020 will be the start of a turnaround to respectability and good fortune.  The title is more like a statement of hope or faith.  But I get what some are saying about jinxing ourselves.

THANK YOU MANUSKY.  Without your jibroni playcalling to ensure we lost the Philly and NY games down the stretch - we may not have locked up the #2 pick.

He followed Bill Belichick's sage command to "Just do your job!"  And what was Manusky's job?  To ensure that the Redskins secured the #2 pick in the 2020 NFL draft by any means necessary.

To you, sir, I say job... well... done!!!!!!!👍

Of course it’s POSSIBLE.  It’s also possible I run for President in 2024 and win.

But I don’t believe in conspiracy theories because of bad calls against my team.  I watch a lot of non- Redskin football games and see bad calls called all the time.   I go on other forums and see complaints about officiating all the time.  I don’t recall seeing “thank goodness the refs liked us” posts.

Is it against the realm of possibility that you see what you want to see?

I have never said that the Redskins are victims of a conspiracy.  I have said that I understand why fans would think so who believe it.  As a fan of the Redskins, I have done my best to push away my own feelings about refs effecting the outcome of games.  Like you, I don't want to believe that.

I have to admit, however, these last two games have been very difficult for me to believe things were on the up-and-up, because it's absolutely possible for a ref or refs to determine the outcome of a game.

I know one thing.  If there was a conspiracy I wouldn’t bother watching Redskins games if the outcomes of key games were predetermined.

Could you please explain why this is out of the realm of possibility for you?  Why are people so above reproach with you on this issue?  People have done monstrous things throughout human history, but for some reason, for you, this is a bridge too far.

Many of these calls or non-calls have been so blatantly obvious against this team that to not even consider it an option appears as bad a call as many of these awful calls the refs have made or not made (against this team).

As far as I'm concerned, a bias acted on by one referee is a conspiracy.  A one-person conspiracy is still a conspiracy.  Something is not on the up-and-up with this team.  It stinks to high heaven.

I don't know a lot about NFL hashtags, but #ALLCAPS is right up there with HTTR!

#ALLCAPS has to be a top-5 hashtag across all sports!!!

In addition to the cleverness and wit of the hashtag, the hockey world is "all Caps" since they are the reigning and defending Stanley Cup champions!!!

I've watched one full game this season and that was the Raiders game (thankfully). We're just not a good team unless you consider a mediocre 7-9 win team good. We're the type of team that will always have injuries throughout year, penalties at in opportune times, fumbles, blocked punts that get returned for a million yards, QB that even after 3 years will still throw those game sealing INTs or whatever else excuse we want to throw in there. We just aren't very good. We're mediocre. Not bad, not good, just mediocre.

Come on now, we all must show some objectivity here!!! :chair:

With all due respect, our offense has proven to be top three between the 20-yard lines over the last year and a half!  A virtual irresistible force!

Take my advice.  Stop looking at the score at the end of games.  Instead focus on the total yards between the twenties.  You'll feel so much better...I promise. :)

I guess I shouldn't come into a Conspiracy thread and think I'm going win many debates.

I think refs mess up all the time, but don't believe anyone is out to get us.

I'm sure you are right, but as a fan of the Redskins, it has felt like a conspiracy on a multitude of occasions in multiple games.  This team gets some of the ticky-tackiest calls against them, especially in critical situations.
