  1. I'm not a big fan of lagers either, but the Prosit is pretty good. I just tapped a keg of Loose Cannon, (it was filled on July 2nd), and noticed that the ABV listed on the collar around the ring states 7%, (it used to be 7.25%). No complaints here, as it still tastes as great as ever, but I wonder what the deal is with the lower ABV. :whoknows: We'll be at the Beer and Bacon fest in September, hope to see you there!
  2. I'm currently enjoying a pint of Heavy Seas Loose Cannon. Bought the keg on Friday, tapped it last night. Pulled the first pint this afternoon. Mmmmmm.......
  3. My keg of Victory Hop Devil just blew:( But that's okay! I'm picking up a keg of Heavy Sea's Loose Cannon on Friday Just finished a sixer of Anchor Steam Liberty Ale. Good stuff!!
  4. That makes sense. It also explains why the Stone bombers are so cheap in CA. We go to S.Lake Tahoe every January/February and the beer selection at the grocery store, (Raley's), rivals that of some liquor stores here in MD. I'm guessing that Sierra Nevada distributes their own beer as well, because the selections, and pricing, in CA are pretty good too.
  5. True. It's probably one of those brews that can be filed in the "none of the above" category. I wasn't sure what to call it. I do know that the oaked version kicked ass. I also know that, at a cost of $19.00 a six-pack, that I'll probably never buy it again.
  6. Damn! Can't make the 31st:mad: Hopefully they'll have a firkin, or two, of the Hang Ten at the bacon event in September. They had several firkins of different beers at the last one. I'm almost out of the Hop Devil, and Loose Cannon is the next keg in the rotation. I'll have to get my liquor store to see if his distributor can hook me up with an oak aged keg of the Loose Cannon. The only oak aged IPA that I've had is Stone's Arrogant ****. If the oak aging has the same affect on the Loose Cannon, then it should be very, very good.
  7. It was nice to meet you last week. I'm looking forward to partying with you at the ES/RR tailgates. I'm hoping to squeeze in one more tour, before the brewery expansion. At the Beer & BBQ fest last year, they had "The Great Pumpkin Ale" that was brewed in oak casks that were previously used to distill bourbon. I'm not a big fan of pumpkin ales, but that one kicked some serious ass. I might even pick up a bomber, or two. The Smoke on the Water was very good
  8. During my most recent tour of the Heavy Seas brewery, I picked up one of these: I'll let this one sit until next Christmas. I also picked up a bottle of this: I'll be drinking the "Smoke on the Water" tonight with some grilled ribeyes. I can't wait!!
  9. I've seen it in a few of liquor stores in Glen Burnie and Pasadena, but you won't see it in a 7-11.
  10. Cool.....we'll try to get there on one of those dates. Are you working the taps? :chug: I'll shoot you a PM if we go. I've taken the tour so much over the years, that I can give the tour. Seriously. I've seen the '09 Below Decks locally, at Cristo's in Glen Burnie, Fishpaws in Arnold and Gran Ritchie Liquors in Pasadena. I'll have to snag some....
  11. Loose Cannon is one of the staples in my kegerator. Over the years, I've bought so much of it,, (and the Peg Leg), that I probably helped put Hugh's daughter through college How is working at Clipper Ci...err....or arrrrggghh....Heavy Seas working out? Do they have any Below Decks left for sale during tours? I have a 1 bottle of '06,(which is the best version, IMO, so far), and some from the past couple of years going back to '07. Note to self: be nice to rincewind..he works at Heavy Seas
  12. Those are great prices. The Dogfish beers are around $1.00 higher here, and the Heavy Seas range from $8.49 to $9.00, exclusive of the Below Decks. Want to save real money? Buy a kegerator. Seriously. Depending on the kind of beer, I save an average of $130.00 purchasing by the keg, over the case price. Here's a real life example. (Well...almost real-life, because my beer guy gave me a $20.00 break on my latest keg purchase) My latest purchase, a keg of Hop Devil, cost me $130.00. You get 165 12oz beers out of a 1/2 keg, which rings in at about $0.79 per 12oz serving. That same beer, purchased by the case for $38.00 rings in at $1.58 per serving. I'm saving $0.80 per glass which is a savings of $132.00 over the case price. Did I mention that I'm a cheap ****? You do have to take in consideration of the electricity used by the kegerator, (which is minimal), and the cost of CO2 fills, ($15.00 per 5lb bottle...but I get my fills for free:D). You get about 6-7 kegs out of a 5lb bottle. You also need to have a beer-line cleaning kit. Mine cost $45.95. The only "drawback", is that you really need to like the beer, because you have 15+ gallons of it!! What I do is tap the type of beers that are drinkable all the time, (Loose Cannon, Hop Devil, HellRazer, etc). Because I like so many types of beers, I just pick up six pack of different stuff for variety. A good, quality, kegerator will cost you around $1,000.00. There are much cheaper models out there, but you'll kinda get what you pay for. A lot of people build their own kegerators, with kegerator conversion kits. I think that is the way to go. You get everything you need, (shank, faucet, coupler, regulators, CO2 bottle, hoses & fittings), for less than $200.00. Pick up a used refrigerator from Craiglist, garage sales, whatever, and you're set. Plus, you get the added bonus of brewery fresh draft beer, which is the best way to enjoy beer. Did I forget to mention that I'm a cheap ****?
  13. I'll have to try the Hop Wallop. I have a keg of Hop Devil in the kegerator, and am currently enjoying a pint as I type this. It is one of my favorite brews and one of the staples in the kegerator. Please post your opinion of the Hop Devil. Thanks!
  14. I quoted directly from the brewfest web-site. It can be $1.00 to $2.00 per 5 oz beer. Hopefully, most brewers will only charge $1.00. Please give us a review of the festival....and have a great time!
  15. You left out this part, "You can use those tickets to purchase beers at the price of 1-2 tickets per beer, depending on how expensive your tastes are" So...you may be paying up to $2.00 for a 5oz serving of beer. Not a deal-breaker, but that can cost $6.00 for almost a pint. Not a good deal at all. It would be an ok deal if everyone charged $1.00 per glass. Not the best deal, but not bad. It does, however, give you the opportunity to try a bunch of different beers.. My barometer is the Heavy Seas brewery tour, held every Saturday. The tour is free, but if you want to sample beer, you pay $5.00, and they give you a free pint glass, and tickets for six free samples. They generally fill the glasses up at least 1/2 way. *:secret: I'm a cheap ****
  16. Agree...100% It's pretty bad. I bought a 6-pack and was very, very disappointed. It should be called "Malt Hog". I couldn't even finish the 6-pack. I used it to make beer-battered coconut shrimp, and fish & chips.
  17. If you come to the ES tailgates, shoot me a PM a week or so before a game. Tell me what you want and I'll check the prices around here. If you think that they're reasonable, I'll pick some up and give you the beer at the tailgate. We bring so much crap, I can probably only fit a case.
  18. Damn! You can get it around here, (Baltimore area), everywhere for $9.99, tops. I'd take my money elsewhere, if they're stickin' it to you like that. I've got a keg of Hop Devil in the kegerator now, which is excellent. I haven't tried the Hop Wallop yet. I'll have to grab a sixer, to see if it's "keg-worthy"
  19. Agreed. We can usually find the Pale Ale for around $15.00. All of the SA products, except for the Bigfoot, cost the same. All things being equal, I'd go for the Torpedo almost every time. With that being said, I think that charging the same for their Summerfest lager is a joke. That stuff just isn't that good. I learned a while back to only put beer in the kegerator that I like. If my buddies like it, (which they usually don't), more power to them. If they don't, more beer for me!
  20. SNPA is very refreshing. It's also reasonably priced. IMO, it's not kegworthy, because it's relatively inexpensive. I like it when people wonder wtf they're drinking which means, hopefully, that they won't drink any more of my beer!
  21. Congrats!! I'm sure that I'll run into you during an event, or a tour. I've been through the tour so much that I can give it!
  22. Stew, I sincerely appreciate that. We go to the Caribbean every year and loved St. Lucia. We're headed to Coz this year, but we haven't decided on next year. I'll shoot definitely drop you an e-mail if we go back to St. Lucia Same here. As far as "resort dives" go, these were top notch. Sounds good. Have you ever drank it? If so, whattya think?
  23. Absolutely! It is, hands down, my favorite cheap beer. I just can't bring myself to drink it when it's this hot & humid. As this is being typed, I'm enjoying a Victory Hop Devil, on draft....
