  1. Anyone know anything about the Wiz new assistant coach Don Newman from the Spurs? From what I read he is considered the "top assitant" and he is a defensive guy. But that's all I've been able to find out.
  2. In related news, Lou Williams tweeted he will no longer be with the Sixers.
  3. Looks like Nick Young got a 1 year $6M deal with Sixers. Seems like he'll be chasing a long term deal his whole career.
  4. I just noticed you are asking that Beal score 17ppg as a rookie to be a success in your eyes. 17ppg is very high for a rookie to average. Even Ray Allen didn't average that coming into the league as a rookie. He averaged 13.4ppg and we can atleast agree he had a good career. And Ray Allen came out of college as a junior. I think the best way to measure Beal is how his style of play compliments Wall and the rest of the team. He's still young but he seems like he has a good foundation to be a really good player. We'll see.
  5. When doing player comparisons people are speaking of their style of play. They are not saying they will have the same careers as the players they are being compared to. I didn't get to watch many Florida games so I really can't comment on how good the kid can be. However many NBA experts have called this a great pick for the Wiz so I'll take their word for it until I'm able to see more for myself. For a 19 year old he seems very mature and has a great family background ... that's a great start in my book. ---------- Post added July-2nd-2012 at 08:41 AM ---------- Have you seen him play? I'm curious what it is about his game that you don't think he will succeed. I'm asking because, like I said before, I didn't watch too many Florida games. The positives I've heard about him is that he has great form and shoots very well, he rebounds and plays defense. The knock I've heard is that he is shorter than you would normally like a 2 guard to be.
  6. Really? A trade for James Harden would be your reason for not rooting for this team? Wow, out of the trillion reasons that I can think of to not root for the team I'm amazed that this is the one that would do it for you.
  7. I hear you. But the problem with what you said is that it won't really matter who draft then. All of the players the Wiz have to chose from have holes in their games. If there is a belief that this team can not develop players than all is lost because one of these players "as-is" will be enough to make this team a winner. Our best bet would be to trade the pick and pick up veterans that are already developed. I'm not sure who the BPA will be but I want the Wiz to pick the BPA because the team lacks talent. So if that player is Beal, TRob, Barnes, MKG or even Drummond than that's the direction I want them to go. It would just make me sick to my stomach for us to do a Dark over Melo type selection because of a current need.
  8. Totally agree with this. This situation reminds me of a couple years back when every Redskin's fan was stuck on getting a "tall receiver". And so was our FO, so they go out an draft Malcom Kelly and Devin Thomas because they fit the "tall reciever" need. Well after the Devin Thomas pick Jordy Nelson, Eddie Royal, Jerome Simpson and DeSean Jackson get drafted. After the Malcom Kelly pick Mario Manningham gets drafted. My point is the Wizards need to acquire as much TALENT as possible. This team is picking third because they lack talent. If you get fixated on something as one dimensional as shooting then you are going to end up drafting a lesser talent. Let's not forget the Pistons took Darko over Melo because they were picking for need and not getting the best talent available.
  9. The more I look at it. Robinson's the guy. He has attributes that allow him to contribute immediately like heart, rebounding and being able to run the floor. He has great footwork so he can learn some go to post moves fairly easily. Plus the guy is from the area and is too easy to root for. I think the Amare comparisons are a good one. I think his athleticism will go well with Wall and his rebounding is a good compliment to our other bigs (Nene and Seraphin) who don't rebound as well.
  10. I think the guys that are playing hard now have always played hard. The difference is that the guys that weren't playing hard or were playing selfish ball are either on another team or shutdown for the season. They were also the guys that were our starters. So now you have more of a team playing because those individuals aren't playing. I think the other difference is the Wiz now have a potent inside threat. The combination of Nene and Seraphin has been pure gold to end the season. The team is playing better because they aren't relying on their guards to create offense. The bigs are creating a large portion of the offense. The Wiz have gotten lucky with other teams resting their starters but they have also had a number of games without Nene and Booker and most recently Crawford. Crawford is their leading scorer and Nene is the team's best big man.
  11. That was before the winning streak. They couldn't possibly get to 40 or 50 wins this season when the season ends tomorrow. Their goal wasn't to get to 20 wins at the beginning of the season. This is a recent goal. And they actually have a chance to do it which is pretty impressive. I like the way they've been playing lately.
  12. I was thinking the same thing after watching the Kentucky/Louisville game on Saturday. This guy is the most legit prospect in this year's draft class hands down. He has gotten better throughout the whole season. His offensive game has really come along.
  13. Lin is going to score 30 and hand out 15 assists on the Wiz. While I was watching highlights of Lin play that's all I could think about. He runs the pick & roll so well and the Wiz defend it so bad. I really hope I'm wrong but that's the way I keep seeing it play out.
  14. Agreed. I was very happy to see such options on the table. Blatche is the epitome of a player that should be ousted one way or another. I don't have an issue with Lewis except he just doesn't belong here. From all accounts the guy has a decent attitude and atleast knows how to play the game. His issue is that he doesn't have the talent to play the game well anymore.
  15. I thought the part where he said "via trades - via buyouts" was directed towards the POS veterans.
  16. Same question asked about Shanahan coming to the Skins. Coaches aren't all the same. Phil Jackson only goes where the best players are. Jerry might see a situation where you have a star in Wall that if he can just get the rest of the clowns in order they'll be in business. But then again maybe he sees none of that. But I don't see it being out of the question, he has been quoted about wanted to come back to coach. I think he's the old-school type that can get these guys in line. ---------- Post added January-24th-2012 at 12:03 PM ---------- Doug Collins is pretty old. Yet we see the 76ers run a fast tempo offense. A good basketball coach is a good basketball coach regardless of how old he is.
  17. I still would love Jerry Sloan here as a coach. I think he would be a perfect fit.
  18. People said the same thing about Shanahan. There are some coaches that like challenges. Others tend to be opportunistic and wait to see where the stars align before making a move (See Phil Jackson).
  19. Jerry Sloan wants to coach in the NBA again. Hiring him would be a dream come true. Therefore it won't happen. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/rumors-scoop-du-jour/jerry-sloan-ready-return-coaching-120050874.html#ugccmt-container
  20. I believe that he did work on his jumper. The thing about it is when you look at his jumper it actually looks good as far as his form. He just doesn't have confidence in it. That is truly his issue. The only way to gain confidence is to keep shooting. His issue is different then Rondo. Rondo doesn't have good form therefore he doesn't shoot well. However when Rondo shoots he shoot confidently. In fact, Rondo's whole game is based on confidence in his abilities. I believe another issue that effects his confidence is actually knowing when he should shoot. As a point guard he differs so much, it makes him look out of character when he decides to call his own number and shoot. I think they should run some plays for him to come off a pick rather than him calling his own number to take the jumper.
  21. I believe Roger Mason Jr. is the veteran PG you speak of. He will be playing for the Wizards this year on a one-year contract. I like the pickup because he won't steal minutes from any of the young guys. And he's young enough himself to relate to the guys we have on the roster. He can hit the three and is just an overrall good guy. Can't have enough of those.
  22. I believe this also. If Crawford doesn't score who will? I mean if he isn't pulling the trigger than who should the ball go to? When Young was back in the lineup Crawford took less shots and looked for Young. I think he is doing what the coaches are asking him to do. You would have to think that especially since Flip praises Crawford ever chance he gets. I believe Flip has said that Crawford listens well and executes what is being asked of him.
