  1. I'm confused by reporters "reporting", and by people reacting to the reports, that any of the 7 people that the Commanders have publicly requested interviews with are a top candidate. I believe they've publicly requested interviews with seven people at this point. That qualifies each of them as a top candidate. Accurate, but old news at this point. Pretending that it is something more, without any more information than the interview request is bush league.

If the Commanders beat the Cowboys, and the Patriots beat the Jets, we'd still pick #3 if the 3* scenario plays out otherwise. We'd fall back behind the Cardinals who would move up to #2.

Actually, if the Commanders, Patriots and Cardinals all win, and the 3* matchups play out in our favor, we'd still pick #2.

Here's how the SoS would play out in that scenario:

Just a little more info, hopefully not already provided earlier...

SoS tiebreaking vs. the Giants. Three of the same as the NE "who to root for" games, but all three have double weight.

Rooting for a win over a good team with Howell is more of a reflection of me not wanting to give up on Howell yet, and still be able to land a top LT prospect, but I understand your premise that ideally we hire a competent GM and trust them to make the right decisions with the most valuable assets possible.  I can't disagree with that.

I agree that regardless of any current team, media or fan judgement of Howell, he's still currently an asset for the future staff to evaluate. I'm not sure that throwing him out there in this situation is a great move for the future. No value to potentially breaking him into smaller pieces at this point.

Get other guys out there, let them play their hardest, build their individual resumes as best as they can, and lose out with Fromm.

Anyone else having trouble accessing their tickets for the Panthers game?

I had no issues loading the practice for this past Saturday.

I'm trying to load them, but can't I can't access them.  I had no issues with accessing and loading the open practice tickets, but there is no option to access and load the Panthers tickets and parking to Google Wallet.

When I select the "Your Tickets" or the  "Manage Tickets" options, all it shows is the "Past Event", (Saturdays practice at the stadium).

    Thanks!

I can get to mine with no problems. I did not go to the Saturday practice though. Did you get your issue resolved?

  5. Some details and ideas about Buffalo's new stadium plans, less seats and why ...

    https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/why-buffalo-bills-plan-to-reduce-seating-capacity-despite-building-a-bigger-stadium/article_98cf44be-68f2-11ec-a0d8-ef495b50e812.html

Bills plan to reduce the capacity in their new stadium to between 60,000 to 62,000 seats and a general admission, standing-room-only party deck with space for up to another 5,000 fans. Shrinking capacity hasn’t gone over well with some fans. But sports marketing professionals, engineers and economists explained the reasoning behind the national trend in interviews with The News.

“I think that’s smart,” said John Cimperman, a longtime NBA and NHL marketing executive who owns 42 North Brewing Co. in East Aurora. “I know there’s been some negative reaction to the reduced capacity, but it is a trend we’re seeing across venue development – in particular, the reduction of premium seating."

Cimperman said a lot of venues include craft beer decks or other communal spaces as younger fans look for social interaction and popular party decks.

“People are buying experiences,” Cimperman said. “They’re not buying places.”

    Fewer seats, larger stadium

Reducing seating capacity does not mean the Bills want to build a smaller stadium.

On the contrary, the team’s stadium proposal is significantly larger than the venue the Bills have called home for nearly 50 years. Highmark Stadium, which opened in 1973, is a little over 900,000 square feet, while the Bills plan to build a new stadium that would be about 1.5 million square feet, Raccuia said.

“The stadium itself doesn’t have to be smaller to be a smaller seating capacity,” said Ryan Starkovich, the sports practice director at Henderson Engineers, which has worked on several new venues, including SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., which opened in 2020.

Roger Noll, the professor of economics emeritus at Stanford University, said additional square footage rarely leads to increased seating capacity in modern venues.

“Usually, a main motivating factor for a new stadium is to vastly increase the space devoted to concessions,” Noll said. “Some of them include hotels and video arcades and all kinds of stuff, besides just selling beer and hot dogs.”

Raccuia said the Bills’ new stadium would use the additional square footage to incorporate food preparation and maintenance facilities – these are located outside of Highmark Stadium – and to create more temperature-controlled areas and significantly wider concourses.

The Bills plan to keep a similar seating bowl in a new stadium, but with larger seats, more legroom and wider aisles, which would reduce capacity.

Raccuia said the mix of ticket options in the new stadium would “change dramatically” from what the Bills offer today: 100-level seats, 300-level seats, 200-level clubs and suites.

“In essence, we really only have four different products,” Raccuia said. “In a new stadium, we could have upwards of a dozen or more different products to fit every fan, from the standing-room-only party deck scenario to a 24- or a 36-person suite. That gives you flexibility, in a new stadium, to create those options that really give the fan anything that they could want to fit their price point.”

    And some of their timeline

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/31/buffalo-bills-propose-new-1point4-billion-nfl-stadium-by-2027.html

The Bills’ proposal includes a timeline for construction with a completion date pegged for no later than 2027 based on how quickly a deal can be struck, a person with direct knowledge of the documents presented to state and county officials told the AP.

The team’s current lease expires in July 2023 and would be extended until the new facility is opened, should the project be approved by the state of New York and Erie County.

I lived in San Diego in the 90s and everyone hated the Chargers owner for some reason during the many years that he tried to get a new stadium built there with taxpayer money. Then I moved back there in 2010 and they were still arguing over it and once again voted against it and it wasn't even close.

Now he's renting from the Rams owner in LA.

I wonder how long until Dan is threatening moving to Dallas to be that second team their mayor is begging for and leasing from JJ.

California teams as a whole have been pretty mobile over the years.

If you have ever met Chap Peterson he is a little bit of a tool, but I don't disagree with him.

In addition, my stance has always been, no tax payer money to build a stadium.  These owners have money - use it.

Good to hear actually. He sounds like a bit of a tool with his recent statements too.

This feels familiar to me. Area politicians publicly grandstanding for their own short term goals. Pretty much how the stadium ended up in Raljon. Ultimately it's the fans that get screwed the most, over and over again.

Playing a bit of hardball to make the best deal for the state or District makes some sense. Going overboard and driving the deal away completely doesn't. Making nonsense public statements just looks foolish.

To claim that any franchise in the NFL is not viable is ridiculous.

To say that he doesn't think there's support because he doesn't see enough Commanders gear out there right now is also clownish. Right after a rebrand of a franchise that has been supported as the Redskins for generations, during the off season, during a time when people are finding it more and more difficult to just buy groceries and gas. Of course you don't see it out there right now.

Peterson sounds more like a fan who is still mad and hasn't accepted that the name was changed, rather than someone who is thinking of the long term benefits for the state. Nothing wrong with that as a fan, but making major long term decisions for the state based on it is very wrong.

The team will have a new stadium, etc. in the near future, and the state/District and area it's in will benefit long term.

No tailgating is the big reason I am thinking of not going again.   Was not allowed to even sit in car in parking lot.  Have to park and go straight in.

Strange.  My wife and I stayed in our car in the parking lot, relaxed and ate our lunch from our cooler in the back seat.  No one said a thing to us about it.

  9. Got the email yesterday which basically says you still can't attend, but you will see other people in the stands this Sunday.  Also still leaving the door open for the possibility of some fan attendance later this season, if ever allowed by state and local officials.

    Dear Gold Members,

At the request of our players and football staff, we will be hosting a limited number of close family members of players, coaches, and Washington Football Team employees in the stands as we take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

The health and safety of all players, coaches, and staff remains our top priority. Those attending the game must be family members from within the same household as a player, coach, or staff member and will be placed in socially distanced seating throughout the stadium. Everyone entering FedExField property will be required to wear a mask and follow safety guidelines established by the Washington Football Team through coordination with the Center for Disease Control, National Football League, and Prince George's County health officials.

"We are continuing to work with Maryland's Department of Health and Prince George's County health officials to welcome staff and families of players back in a safe manner. We will use this opportunity to test our systems and protocols for the future possibility of hosting fans at FedExFIeld" - Washington Football Team President Jason Wright

The game this Sunday will not be open to fans. If we are able to welcome fans back to FedExField, we will communicate to you about your opportunity to attend a game at that time. If you have any questions you can reach the Membership Services Team via call or text at 301-276-6050, or by email at tickets@washingtonfootball.com.

    Thank you,

    The Washington Football Team

  10. Interesting ...

    https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/football-team/maryland-gov-larry-hogan-favor-safely-trying-get-some-fans-back-nfl-games

Larry Hogan 'in favor of safely trying to get some fans back' at NFL games

    BY JP FINLAY

"I'm in favor of safely trying to get some fans back in the stands," Hogan said Thursday. "Our health department is working very closely on that to try to work with the teams."

"I'm hoping that as we move along, our health metrics in Maryland are terrific, better than most places in the rest of the country. We don't want to do anything to put people in danger but I think that we can find a way to bring some fans back in safely to watch the game I think it’d be more exciting."

"I miss having fans, I miss being a fan. I usually go to games in Washington and in Baltimore every season," the governor said. "It’s just not the same, you watch it on television and you still see some pretty good football but it’s missing something without the fans."

To let them keep $2000+ for a whole extra year, they better offer something more then a shirt or a gift card.  I mean come on.

Agreed.  Offers like that would make it an easy decision to take the refund.
