Recognizing that Howell is a solid asset, already on the roster, with Kingsbury as OC, the Air Raid offense Howell is very familiar with, and an excellent GM to overhaul the roster where needed, doesn't exclude taking a QB this year. It just points out that there appears to be, for the first time in a long time, a potential for a strong QB room for Washington. Kingsbury and whichever QB of the top three they choose, paired with Howell is a great situation to be in.

I just hope whoever we hire brings in their own offensive coordinator. I've pretty much accepted the fact that it's going to be Quinn, and if it's someone else like Macdonald or Glenn then great, that'll be a wonderful surprise. I just want to see EB gone from here, as far away as possible. No way do I want to see him anywhere near our new QB, if that's the direction we go in the draft.
There is another Johnson out there for OC. Also a BJ...

Keeping Mayhew works for me. Peters worked directly with him for a few years. I'm sure he knows Mayhew's strengths and weaknesses and is confident utilizing Mayhew's strengths.

I hope Bob Myers is earning his paycheck and identifying that leadership talent. HC going to be a crucial hire now that the "forgone conclusion" is, in fact, gone.
That's why he was on the sidelines this weekend evaluating Aaron Glenn

I personally would like Weaver as the DC with Johnson as the HC. Good to know that's a possibility.

Yes, that was posted a few pages back. We have seen this.
Just repeated for emphasis. MacDonald's scheduled interview is no more smoke or fire than any of the others.

And your thoughts after reading the Schefter tweet about MacDonald meeting with Harris, Adams and the rest of the gang tomorrow. There's not only smoke but I SEE some fire too.

Interesting read, at least for me ...
Mark Brunell after being hired by the Lions as QB coach on new Head Coach Dan Campbell's staff, with Jared Goff coming in, and Ben Johnson retained going from Tight Ends coach to passing game coordinator.
Feb 12, 2021
"It starts with the relationship," Brunell told Detroitlions.com Friday in a Zoom call. "Earning their trust, having their back, committing to each of the quarterbacks – the starter and the backups. That you're going to do everything in your power to take their game to the next level.
"Every quarterback has shortcomings, some areas where they need to improve. I think every player is a process. The quarterback coach's job is really to get them to a place where they can't go on their own, and that's my job."

So this brings me to this question. During HC interviews, do you think perspective coaches are asked who would they and who could they bring with them?
This implies to me much more than just some bull**** interview wish list. But glad to have amused you. Mock away.

More insight into the HC interviews. Interviewees prepared with a staff list. Makes sense. Surprised specifics leaked though.

So, reading the original Rappaport tweet, which says:
Could be Standig having some confusion, "second in-person" vs "second, in-person", or they're scheduling a 3rd meeting before a 2nd has even occurred. Seems like confusion.
Standig's "third interview" does also appear to be at odds with Breer's tweet from Monday.

I believe that response was that yes, we should fire him again. No flak jacket required for that.

I could imagine Dan Campbell losing his mind if he ended up losing both Johnson and Fraley.
He's definitely very supportive of Ben Johnson becoming a head coach, and I'd guess they've had respectful discussions at some point regarding opportunities for position coaches. Only my guess, but I don't think any of it would be a surprise to Campbell, but yes, it definitely would create big holes to fill. They probably already have somewhat of a plan in Detroit as well, to be handled when the time comes.
I'm sure this has already been posted, but he shows his support for Ben Johnson as a head coach candidate here...
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson shocked everyone last year when he passed on head coaching opportunities to return. Johnson didn’t only interview with teams last offseason, but he could’ve landed a head coaching job.
“I think it’s made him a better coach,” Campbell said, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. “Yeah, he’s grown as a coordinator. Got a little better. You learn things as you would being in that position, yeah. There’s that, but I think it’s made him a more well-rounded coach. I just think everything has grown. I think he’s got a very good grasp of what we do [with] roster management. I think when you do that, and you get in that, and it’s like, ‘OK, there could be a next step. I’m not ready for that. In my head, I don’t want to do that yet. Yes, I’m a better coordinator,’ but it’s also……he’s starting to look for and ask these questions about roster, game-day, building a team, what you’re looking for, front of the room. And I think it served him well.”
“It’s a credit to him, man. Not many people would do that,” Campbell said about Johnson turning down head coaching jobs last offseason. “But that’s how he viewed it. It’s an experience for him. It’s a chance to grow, and it’s a chance to grow with people that he appreciates being around.”

There is no way we make a decision without doing an in person interview with Johnson and possibly Macdonald as well.
Patience is a virtue...
Definitely. Back to the "rapid but thorough process". I'd guess they'll interview all of the four remaining people in person next week, as soon as possible, and make a decision. If their choice is going to the Super Bowl, they'll have an agreement in place. If their choice is not, they'll have a contract in place.

The way this is shaking out there will be some top tier candidates who will not get a HC gig this year. The fact that some are coaching deep into the playoffs makes it very interesting to see how this plays out, who will settle for coaches out of panic?
That always seemed to be a major unfortunate factor for Bienemy, prior to this year.

They are interviewing multiple top candidates. What’s the signal of rushing? No sense of panic, just urgency.
Yep. Just the process. Interview their candidates in person as soon as they are available to do so. There are four left who won't be available for in person until next week, if I'm interpreting the rules correctly. All others are available to interview in person and sign.
They will have to wait to have a formal contract for any of those four until after they have completed their seasons, but I believe they can interview them in person next week.- 2

It's no coincidence that the people who call into 106.7 are also the same people who want to see Bieniemy as the Head Coach. In this case, correlation and causation are the same.

What in the world are these people smoking?
Possibly fans of other teams posing as Commanders fans. That happens all the time. Online and call in.
