At least Smoot got action

the players 25 and younger are the core of this team and it is rare when a group of players that young is able to raise a team that much right away.

most of these guys are still finding their way in the NFL and while they have talent it is going to take a while before the green light goes on for all of them.

In the meantime, teams usually depend upon character veterans to get the team through and bridge the gap.

This year's Redskins don't have many players of that type.

Last year we collected the wrong kinds of veterans, selfish players in the final years of their careers that were here for two things, money and the chance to be in the spotlight.

With the spotlight gone, all that is left is the money and playing out the string.

Carrier, Sanders, Stubby, Johnson, etc are all gone.

That leaves the Redskins with few veterans to depend upon.

Jeff George and Bruce have never been visible leaders or healers on their teams. They are loners. Guys that show up and perform and then go home.

Other veterans here such as Keith Mitchell and Sam Shade just don't have the talent or stature on the team to unite everybody behind a single cause.

Of the over 30 crowd only Marco Coleman seems to be a real leader.

And one player is not enough.

It would be nice if Westbrook, Alexander, Davis would step up and be counted but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

Those players are in a funk right now and are not producing.

When the team went to them yesterday they were either covered, failed to get the first downs, or fumbled the ball away.

It is difficult to lead from behind like that. frown.gif
