bubba9497
Saban will decide Chicago or LSU this weekend JOB CANDIDATES THE SKINNY Head Coach Chicago Bears Nick Saban Lovie Smith Romeo Crennel Mike Nolan Jim Fassel Jan. 9 - The Bears remain focused on Saban, especially after No. 2 choice Jim Mora Jr. took the Atlanta job, but Saban isn't ready to commit to the NFL, telling reporters at the American Football Coaches Association banquet in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Thursday, "The decision is, would we do that, would we ever talk to any (NFL teams) because of our loyalty to people at LSU. (Bears GM) Jerry Angelo and I are very good friends. He visits me in Baton Rouge on occasion. ... I'm going to take this weekend and kind of weigh some options." LSU reportedly is set to offer Saban a 10-year deal for $3 million a season, while the Bears' offer is believed to be for $3.5 million to $4 million a year, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. If they don't land Saban, the Chicago Tribune indicates the Bears are likely to turn to defensive coordinators Romeo Crennel of the Patriots or Lovie Smith of the Rams, both of whom interviewed last week. The Tribune also reports the team hasn't ruled out former Giants coach Jim Fassel, whose interview was abruptly cancelled earlier this week. Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Nolan is scheduled to interview this weekend. JOB CANDIDATES THE SKINNY General Manager Miami Dolphins Randy Mueller Rick Spielman Tim Ruskell Tom Modrak Jerry Reese Phil Savage Scott Pioli Jan. 9 - Because Miami is interested in hiring Ron Wolf as a part-time consultant for the Dolphins, that is making candidates for Miami's general manager opening uneasy, according to the Palm Beach Post. The long line of candidates include: Giants director of player personnel Jerry Reese, New England VP of player personnel Scott Pioli, Insider analyst Randy Mueller, Ravens director of player personnel Phil Savage, Buffalo assistant GM Tom Modrak, Tampa Bay executive Tim Ruskell and and Dolphins executive Rick Spielman JOB CANDIDATES THE SKINNY Head Coach Oakland Raiders Al Saunders M. Carthon R. Crennel Charlie Weis Brad Childress Jim Johnson Greg Knapp Art Shell Jim Fassel Rick Neuheisel Jeff Tedford Jan. 9 - The Raiders' coaching search keeps generating a lot of heat, but not much light. The Oakland Tribune names coordinators Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel from New England and Brad Childress and Jim Johnson from Philadelphia as the "most prominent" names. But the San Francisco Chronicle reports the team spent most of Thursday interviewing 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Knapp. However, Knapp is expected to join Jim Mora Jr., hired by Atlanta on Thursday, on the Falcons' staff. Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders had a preliminary interview by telephone last week, and the team reportedly would like to talk to him again, but he is prohibited further contact until the Chiefs are eliminated from the playoffs. The Chronicle also reports the Raiders are expected to bring in Cowboys offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon in the next few days. JOB CANDIDATES THE SKINNY Head Coach Buffalo Bills Dick Jauron Jim Fassel Lovie Smith Romeo Crennel Charlie Weis Jerry Gray Mike Mularkey Jan. 9 - According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Bills GM Tom Donahoe is mulling over the seven current candidates for the Bills coaching job but is in no hurry to make a decision. "If it's the right guy and you feel you have to wait, then you better wait," Donahoe told the paper. Some reports indicate former Bears coach Dick Jauron is the favorite after a knockout interview Monday, with former Giants coach Jim Fassel second. But the Democrat and Chronicle suggests Donahoe "still likes the fresh approach a coordinator can bring." Donahoe already has interviewed coordinators Lovie Smith, Romeo Crennel, Charlie Weis, Jerry Gray and Mike Mularkey. He apparently will wait until at least Monday to see if the Patriots or Rams lose, making Crennel, Weis and/or Smith available for second interviews right away. http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/rumorcentral?sport=nfl
