This great.. I listen to a Cleveland area sports station sometime, so after hearing them all about Modell.

Its good to shove it in his face

[ February 10, 2002, 11:02 PM: Message edited by: ThatGuy ]

Let us all make sure to give our thanks to Art Modell for ratcheting up the Irony Meter to new heights by slamming his former defensive coordinator as money-grubbing for accepting Washington's superior job offer, after Mr. Modell did the exact same thing on an even grander scale when he moved the Browns to Baltimore 6 years ago.
quote:
"Sometimes, money talks louder than words, and this is an opportunity Marvin felt he had to take," Ravens owner Art Modell said in a statement. "I'm disappointed that whoever misled us about Marvin staying did that to the Ravens."

Well, Art, the full saying is that money talks and B.S. walks. Art, you are now walking. And heaven forbid that anyone should mislead Art Modell! I am shocked... shocked that anyone might do that!

Kinda reminds me of that line from Casablanca: "Gambling in the casino?! I'm shocked! Absolutely shocked!"

You mean that the Redskins, after receiving permission from the Ravens to interview Marvin Lewis, would go ahead and actually try to hire Mr. Lewis?! Shocking! Absolutely shocking!

In my view, what's really chafing ol' Art's behind is the fact that he and his GM, Ozzie Newsome, were presumptuous enough to go on the record several times this weekend with statements like: "Oh yeah, Marvin is definitely gonna be back with the Ravens next year. Oh yeah, he feels a great sense of obligation about coming back. There's no way he'd go and work for that man in Washington. Rest assured, Ravens fans, Mr. Lewis will be back with us."

The flip side of this situation, of course, is that no one heard even one little peep from Dan Snyder, Joe Mendes or Steve Spurrier on the subject of Marvin Lewis becoming the Skins' defensive coordinator. It was always "NFL sources" talking about Lewis potentially donning the Burgundy & Gold next season.

The moral of this story? Keep yer big yap shut till ya know fer sure what's really goin' on, Art!

[ February 11, 2002, 12:06 AM: Message edited by: Glenn X ]

Now the defensive guys know who is in charge of the defense. This should give a boost for Lang to sign. Also, Lewis will have a chance to watch tape and talk to some players before free agency starts. Lewis' head must be spinning after the last couple of days-I know mine is-ok, some of that is beer but the rest is keeping track of Lewis.
