redman
He just demonstrated that he can't get it done when it counts, even when he's got a good opportunity to do it.

redman
I'm an honest man. The line and especially the backs absolutely sucked all day - as they have all season - on blitz pickups, so Tony's job wasn't easy. But consider how ironic it is to defend Banks by blaming Raye for putting fate in Banks' hands. Gardner was open enough to catch a pass, and Banks who rolled out on that 4th down play was not under pressure and still threw it out of Rod's reach. That's far from clutch QB play. ------------------ "Loosen up, Sandy baby. Guest fuji869
As much as I wanted to see Tony Bank Succeed with the Redskins because of the way Dallas got rid of him he is not the man in D.C.
Ignatius J.
In all fairness to the skins, get a hold of the tape. Banks threw the ball out of traffic into an area where gardner should have been able to make a play for it, but a bear was holding his jersey. Now, he still might not have made the catch, but let's not totally blame tony. Another thing, I'd say that banks wasthe better QB out there today. He had some nice passes in the third quarter. The weakest part of the skins today was interior o-line. We do not have the muscle there to get much needed short yardage up the middle. It's been a problem all season. -DB
Skins57
Well I guess our season is over, but if we can get to 8-8 next year........ who knows As far as Banks goes, yea he is gone and I hope we can find a decent QB but why in the heck did we not give the ball to Davis atleast 3 times. we should have run the first 3 downs and if we had to pass on 4th. I don't care how good the defense was we had run on them all day. Oh well I want to see Skaggs and Sage in the lineup next week. Fitz
The problem is that he was BOTH the better and worse QB out there, from one play to the next. You can't put up with that kind of inconsistency from the man that touches the ball every offensive play. Moron of the year: Banks for not signing a contract extension immediately after the five-game winning streak. See ya, Tony!!! But this whole thing about Banks being the best QB out there doesn't say a whole lot. Miller sucks. The Bears, who are 11-3 are one of the teams rumored to have a serious interest in Bledsoe in the offseason . Let's aim a little higher. I also disagree about the interior line. The Bears defensive line interior is arguably the best in the NFL this year. No one runs on them. But our interior line has otherwise done well. I see our failures not in the run blocking, but in our total cluelessness on blitz pickups, which a mediocre QB like Banks simply is incompetent to deal with. ------------------ "Loosen up, Sandy baby. BIGDC
Getting a good qb is no easy task. We're pretty much short for next year too. Montilar
An interesting statistic on Banks that I would like seeing, but doubt it's available anywhere: How many times has a Banks led offense scored more than 20 points? or 2 Td's in a game? Or been limitd to no TD's? Note I said offense. Not team. Take away the special teams and defensive TD's and how many times has a tony banks team been able to score TD's in comparison to other QB's? That could be an interesting fact. Especially considering the 5 game Td drought in Baltimore and the lack of Td production in Wahington.
redman
It'll take some doing, Montilar, but you can use this website , which happens to have game by game data on players all the way back to Banks' rookie season. ------------------ "Loosen up, Sandy baby. OrangeSkin
Good point, Montilar. People saying we haven't given Tony a sufficient chance need to look at his entire career. He got benched in favor of Trent Dilfer because of a 5 game touchdown drought. He's not that good! I could listen to facts about his athleticism all day, but I don't care if he can't do the job. Pete
I don't know Redman. I havn't liked the play of Raymer for 3 seasons now, and I don't think he'll be here next season. Brad, Jeff, and now Tony have been getting harassed up the middle to often. I agree Tony is toast, but much lesser teams then the Bears have had little problem getting in the QB's face, and not just this season. ------------------ Steal your face right off your head
jonjeff
Those two fat bastar*s that the Bears had up front today made Rayner look small. All in all I don't think Raymer is that bad. He's alot better than Mark Fischer, but thats not saying much!
Montilar
Going to the link, redman provided, here's a bio on Banks. As expected (and known) it's consistent with the opinions of all arm chair QB's rooting for the skins. 1996 (Rams) (14 games) TDs passing 15 running 0 INTs 15yards 2544 ** nine of 14 games team scored under 20. One was a shutout. *** game against atlanta, Rams scored 59. Banks had two TDs, 188 yds. Musta been an awesome running game or D effort. **** 26th in pass attempts/28th in completions. 1997 (Rams) (16 games) TDs passing 14 running 1 INTs 13 yards 3254 ** nine games the rams scored under 20. one game at 20. *** 17th in league in pass attempts/25th in completions 1998 (Rams) (14 games) TDs passing 7 running 3 INTs 14 yards 2535 ** eight of 14 games team scored under 20. Two more at 20. 1999 (Ravens) (11 games) TDs passing 17 running 0 INTs 8 yards 2136 ** 4 of 11 games Banks was in, Ravens scored under 20 points - all 4 were 10 or less *** Banks had two games with 2 TDs, 2 with 3, and one 4 TD game **** 29th in completions/13th in pass attempts 2000 (Ravens) (8 games/with minor appearances in two additional playoff games) TDs passing 8 running 0 INTs 8 yards 1578 ** 6 of 8 games with Banks starting Ravens scored under 20 points - 4 were 6 points or less Oh, ONCE, I repeat ONCE, in 1998 Banks had better than a 54 % completion percentage. so basically he's a 50 percenter.
